@Benjirific said:the problem I have is we started this two years ago and inexplicably despite clear progress we scrapped it at the end of last year. The team of kids took steps forward under Potter, in both attack and defence, and personality things aside we decided to just wipe that all away and take steps backwards for no good reason. Getting rid of Potter is fine, but we didn't need to take steps back, we needed a coach like Nathan Brown who could continue Potter's progress, not one who wanted to create their own boys club, as Taylor as done.
@Benjirific said:@marzie said:People need to be patient. Whether you want the coach sacked after round 11 or not, nothing you say or do will affect what happens with Wests Tigers…
This season should be viewed as a great opportunity for a young team to get better. Highly recommend adopting the same view, not only is it realistic it makes it much easier to deal with poor performances.
Sorry to say tigers won't be competing for a premiership this year, but everybody should already know that. It's clear that what they are now doing is bettering themselves for the years to come. I'm looking forward to next year and beyond and am prepared to give Jason Taylor the term of his contract to prove himself right

@LCA said:I disagree completely. I think it showed Taylor for what he is; stubborn and blinkered.
How the hell is HE going to teach this group to "toughen up" , …. a phrase he used repeatedly in that interview?
\

HE needs to "toughen up" and accept that criticism goes with the territory of being an NRL coach where 9000 people pay to be members and sponsors tip in thousands of $$.
What in the world prompted him to think that calling into Triple M would do anything to build confidence of members and fans in coaching this team?
Could you imagine Bennett or Robinson or Toovey or Maguire doing that......????
I am m ore concerned than ever now. To me, it showed a fundamental flaw in his character to even think about doing that.
If he didn't have WT executive approval to do request that interview, he needs to be stood down...IMMEDIATELY!

YOU can’t deny Jason Taylor’s passion.
After hearing his club cop it on the radio, the Wests Tigers coach rang in to launch an impassioned defence of his team and its playing style.
“I was driving along and I caught the end of it and I know there’s a lot of disappointed Tigers fans out there at the moment so I thought I’d come on and … answer any questions that you want to know where we’re at with regards to the weekend’s performance and where we’re at as a team right now,” Taylor told Triple M’s The Rush Hour, featuring rugby league legends and commentators Peter Sterling and Andrew Johns.
The Tigers have come under fire in the wake of Saturday’s dour 8-0 loss to a depleted North Queensland Cowboys outfit at Campbelltown Stadium.
Taylor pulled no punches when it came to talking about his side’s poor attack, but was adamant the Tigers had more pressing problems than an inability to find the tryline.
He said the Tigers coaching staff were desperate to improve the club’s defence after a poor recent run which included a 22-12 loss to the Knights and 36-4 flogging by the Roosters.
“We’re disappointed with our attack in that game. It was pretty ordinary and we need to work on that,” Taylor said.
“It sounded really weird for people after that game but we have to get our defence improved and we have to toughen up as a team and we’ve set about changing that.
“Last year we had 110 tries scored against us, which was the worst in the competition, and the year before that we had 120 tries scored against us. What we need to do is we need to change the culture in regards to toughening up the team and being a better defensive team.”
After fielding more questions from Sterling and Johns, Taylor was adamant his club was headed in the right direction.
“I know that was ugly on the weekend,” Taylor said.
“I said after the game it was crap, our attack was crap, we’re better than that.
“But we defended in the fashion that we need to defend and the challenge for us now is to do that again and then do that again and then do it again.
“We started the season well in that regard but then we dropped off. We’ve got to toughen up.
“You can’t go anywhere near winning competitions unless you can defend and right now we can’t defend. So that’s where the energy’s going to remain to go.
**“That means we’ve got to put more energy in defence and a little but less in attack — I’m not saying we don’t want to score tries — but we’ve got to learn to do this, we’ve got to toughen up and that’s the path.”**
The part in bold irks me so much. You can't sacrifice one aspect to fix another. Both need to be done at the same time, otherwise realistically there will be no improvement whatsoever

I think it showed he has faith in what he is doing. He could run and hide but he fronted up without being prompted. If a coach doesn't believe in what he I doing then how can the players?
I'm still not sold, but I'm not looking for a quick fix either, that's a Parra thing.

Yes.
Cioaches need to stick solid with their plans, as well as their top squad…have faith, have perserverance and be patient.
I have always said defence is the cornerstone for every good team, you get this right everything follows, how many times have i banged on about manly attacking with their D, how impressive it is when they were red hot....however I never imagined a coach would focus almost 100% on D at the expense of the attack....it seems to be quite an imbalance when you condsider you have the ball in your hands around 50% of the time.
Its been evident from the start of they year what hes focussed on, completions and defense....its hard to watch at the moment but I hope it pays dividends eventually
I really think the mental psychological side of thing still needs a lot of work...we are soft upstairs imo...we rarely turn up to play, we crumble easily at times...I guess confidence helps ..im no expert, but when I watch other games I compare other teams to ours and I see things I dont see with us, hard straight running - i mean REAL HARD...hurting painful defence, playing for each other, supoorting each other...playing for your team mate....its more than just defence, because defence is all about attititude, and we have none
