Taylor Gambles on Youth...

The one area that has to improve is defence.

I had high hopes that Potter would improve that area but I was disappointed. Yep we played OK early on but slowly the defence got worse until the floodgates opened.

I'll get shouted down about the injury toll but I see the top teams bring in youngsters and they are pre-drilled with their club's defensive structure and they don't let the first grade side down too much.

Taylor is saying all the right things about our defence. He is getting my attention, I hope he delivers. Everyone knows Brooks was a liability in defence last year but Taylor wants support for him. All good youngsters who get to this level can tackle but the team's structure is harder to adjust to.

Agreed….Brooks tackling isn't the problem... A kid his age, size & position is always going to take 2-3 years to become a good defender.

Its the different number of defensive structures he was playing with week in week out that is causing him the biggest problems... Fix the left defensive structure, and Luke will find his feet a lot quicker as he will have confidence in his inside and outside men...

Occasionally though he makes mistakes. He is like that smart kid at school who nails everything academically but lacks the street smarts or common sense.

I don't know if street smarts is how i would put but i agree with your overall summation. I think he is very shrewd. I think he could go toe to toe with the top few coaches in the game in terms of insight, tactics, knowledge, training techniques etc

My concern is how will he react to losses and pressure? If he becomes an angry ant and loses the players respect then it will end in tears for him like last time. I reckon Trent Robinson would have been great for him.

If Potter was known or though to be a bad coach, so be it and fair enough that they didn't renew his contract. My issue with how it was handled was that it didn't look like he was being supported by the players or management while he was still coach. That send a bad message.
