Martin is not overly different situation and skill set to Mbye.
The difference is Mbye and the Dogs have had the patience to wait until he 21, his body has filled out more, and now he can come into grade as much closer to the finished product.
Even for Mbye he had the Origin halves in front of him at the Dogs but was happy to work his way up, although i'm sure clubs would have offered him first grade.
Martin needs to do the same and I certainly hope he re-signs for another year or two shortly. He has a lot of friends at the club and will surely be playing nsw cup soon enough.
Once he's of age and size if there are no opportunities for him here to play NRl then i won't begrudge him the move. If he moves now to develop further in another team's nsw cup side then that would be far more disappointing. Like all NYC players he need to work on his defence.
And as was discussed in a thread about a month ago, he looks like he will fill out nicely and be in the low 90kgs in a couple of years time. A similar build to benji, slightly bigger if anything.
Problem is modern day centres are mostly 190cm+ and 100kgs+. Our current centres are 180-185cm and 90kgs so giving up a fair bit of size to our opposition already. But then if you're good enough youre big enough.
