You think he will stay at the tigers.

I'll let James answer that question

He still wants to , that's for sure TR4L

I can't tell you Milky because he is desperately hoping the Tigers will increase the 1st and 2nd years of the contract

It's interesting you say that, I wonder why Tedesco's contract was not being discussed at the end of last year?

If you look at recent re-signings - Sirro, Nofo, Brooks, Simona, Woods - we got in before any other clubs were able to make much of an approach. In other words, right deal at the right time. It doesn't seem to be Tigers MO to wait too long on key re-signings.

Did Tedesco want to postpone contract talks until his form could bump the price? Risky strategy, as has been discussed previously, but not just due to injury, but due to the risk of money being spent elsewhere.

If what Happy says is true, Tigers want to offer Tedesco a back-loaded contract, which means we have run out of cap space over the next two years, which means the money has already been spent elsewhere whilst Tedesco was under consideration.

There is no other reason to backload the contract, because subject to any special provisions, he gets the full value after 4 years regardless of how the payments are split.

I also don't remember the exact specifics, but I recall Farah taking a good while to decide to re-sign, also including a "tour" or some such at Canterbury and/or Parra. Considering he and Teddy share managers, makes you wonder how much of the whole delay / media play-out / contradicting information thing is Ayoub's doing.

The problem is with negotiations with football clubs is you say to yourself "they won't get me so cheap next time " but then it happens again and you think next time I'll screw these blokes for everything and it happens again

They know all the tricks and play on your loyalties to family , club , mates ,fans ,coach ,location whatever they know which will get their hooks under your skin and get you to stay

Read the Alfie Langer book and he was one of the best in the game .

If you feel you are getting sold short in your own job , how do you feel ??

This contract saga is a real joke…Ayoub his manager comes across as a shonky used car salesman....

Why is it some players can pen a deal in a matter of 2 or 3 days yet Tedesco and his manager have played out his next contract in the media over 3 months.

Teddy and his shonky manager supposedly have had offers from the Dogs and Roosters as well as our offers to gauge his market worth. It’s clear the Dogs and Chooks have lost interest or can’t compete with our offers...I’ll go for the latter as a theory...that being the case we are offering this prima dona and his manager a very good deal...so why test the market further if Tedesco is genuinely interested in staying with the Tigers?...all this speculation can be put to bed by Ayoub and Tedesco but they choose to continue to string everyone along.....good luck Tedesco...you have gone down a few rungs for mine...**if I were the Tigers i’d be putting some heavy hitting clauses that states you must play more than your current 41% availability**...

Thats bitterness talking. What club has ever put a stipulation like that in a players contract.

Thats FACT and INTELLIGENCE talking.I love when 41% gets called 41% and someone calls it bitterness.Oh whoever was responsible for the idea of political correctness :wtf :wtf :wtf

Thanks Jerry I tend to agree with ya on that one

That's right about the manager. I know for a fact he says you ALWAYS listen to what someone has to offer before making a decision. Sounds like a good manager to me

Get off thinking this is the clubs fault - there are many factors at hand. We can't pay everyone what they think they are worth - and sorry, the fact that you and Teddy think the offer is unfair doesn't mean it is unfair, because right now it is only being beat by a ridiculous offer from one club prepared to pay overs.

Moh , James isn't after anything near what the Raiders are offering

Not saying it is the clubs fault at all its their choice , as long as they have a solid back up plan

Rowe and Sleiman aren't solid back up plans imo

By Mayer describing the $2m 4-year deal as 'insensible', is he saying that that would be a ridiculous offer?

Or that wherever that information was from is ill-advised?

Why would Tedesco want more money up front rather than it being backloaded? The kid is 21 and lives at home, it's not like he has a family and a mortgage

Sounds like a good manager to me too. It could be that James has been saying he wants to stay with the Tigers to his manager all along. Ayoub knows how to make sure James gets the absolute best offer from the club. With his loyalties exposed, I doubt he'd get top dollar from the club otherwise.

I dunno, there is something to be said about doing your contract on the quiet and maintaining your dignity / fan respect. How do fans feel long-term about mercenaries like Te'o, SBW, Folau, Glenn Morrison?

As Benji and Moltz's nitwit manager Tauber has shown, how you do your deal can be as important as what the deal actually is.

And in reference to Happy's comments about clubs trying to, for want of a better word, swindle players, play to loyalties etc. - they all do it don't they? It's a level playing field that way and in such a hotly contested market where your success is at the demise of someone else, clubs need to use all the tricks available.

Let's not forget these top players are getting hundreds of thousands of dollars every year to run around playing a game they love. They are not exactly hard done by if they are at elite level.

Hmm - you are making me very nervous about the whole Tedesco contract, Irvine. I for one do not think he is replaceable, however also understand that we need to retain other players under the cap to be successful. To lose him would be devastating - providing he can overcome the run of recent serious injuries - there is not another young player who can come close in the fullback position IMO. I always felt we would come up with what was necessary to retain him in the end, but your inferences are suggesting that this may not be the case. Not happy.

And confirmed by the Raiders.

The Canberra Raiders are pleased to announce the signing of rising star James Tedesco on a three year contract from the beginning of the 2015 season.

Canberra Raiders CEO Don Furner said the signing of Tedesco was a marquee one for the club and said the Raiders had been following his progress though his junior years and were thrilled to have him sign with the Raiders.

“James is an outstanding young talent who we see as a big signing for the Raiders and we look forward to him joining the club at the beginning of the 2015 season,” Furner said. “The Raiders have followed James’ progress from his days at St Gregory’s College Campbelltown and we know being from Camden, James will fit into the lifestyle and culture here in Canberra.”

“We wish him a successful season for the remainder of 2014 with the Wests Tigers and look forward to him joining us for pre-season 2015.”

Wests Tigers have today confirmed that fullback James Tedesco will leave the club at the end of 2014 to join the Canberra Raiders for three seasons.

The club has worked very closely with Tedesco’s management in an effort to keep him at the club he has played with since the age of 13 and will be disappointed to see him leave.

Tedesco has played 25 NRL games for Wests Tigers since making his debut in Round 1, 2012, scoring 12 tries in that time.

Wests Tigers CEO Grant Mayer said that the club will continue with its policy of developing local juniors into stars of the NRL.

“James has grown up in the Wests Tigers system and we’ve made it absolutely clear that developing local juniors is a priority for this club,” said Mayer. “In the last 12 months we’ve retained local juniors Luke Brooks, Aaron Woods, Tim Simona, David Nofoaluma, Curtis Sironen, Mitchell Moses and Sauaso Sue, and are disappointed to confirm that James will leave the club at the end of the 2014 season.

“The discussions with James’ management were complex. When another club identifies one of our players as their marquee signing we simply cannot compete with that,” he said. “We wish James well in his new venture and thank him for his dedication and commitment to Wests Tigers over the past eight years.

“James has made it clear that his priority for the remainder of the year is to achieve success with Wests Tigers and we look forward to seeing him back on the park as soon as he’s recovered from his current injury,” said Mayer. “We have no doubt that that in our system there are young players who will reach the levels of the likes of Farah, Woods, Brooks and Sironen and look forward to bringing them into the NRL in the future.”

Tedesco informed his team mates of his decision this morning, saying that it was a tough conversation to have.

“It wasn’t easy to tell the guys, they are a great group of players, and close friends of mine,” said Tedesco. “This wasn’t an easy decision for me to make and I’d like to thank Wests Tigers for their support during the process.

“I’m fully committed to Wests Tigers for the remainder of the 2014 season and can’t wait to get back onto the field and join my team mates,” he said. “We’ve had some good wins to start the year and are confident that we’ll be in the mix come finals time.
