The Tigers offered Tedesco what I thought was decent money over a 4 year deal. I saw what the Raiders offered though and they're paying overs in a big way. Whilst I am disappointed, we now need to find or develop a top shelf fullback. I don't think Rowe is the answer. Hopefully we can now move towards re-signing Gavet and Thompson.

The issue I see here is not that we didn't match the Raiders offer, it's that we didn't get this kid signed up before they even entered the discussion. The comments by Mayer in the statement about him being a marquee for them, but apparently not for us, are an absolute slap in the face to the fans.

I'm going to get slammed over this because according to pretty much everyone on here Mayer can do no wrong, but we've got an amatuer of a CEO and this has finally proven it. It's an embarrassing look for the club to lose a potential superstar after the amount of players we've shed in the past 2-3 years, an absolute embarrassment! Blame previous management for part of it, sure, but this issue should fall squarely in the hands of the CEO.

Let's say the reports of the 800K per season are true. We are clearly in no position to match that, let's not forget he has played just 25 games for the club. The club isn't about to play overs for a player over 4 years. Look at what happened with Marshall, we bend over backwards to keep him and paid more than we should have and cost us players.

End of the day, James took money and rightly so since he wanted to cash in on his playing ability in the time has in Rugby League.

oh well, good luck to him, but I just can't see his career taking off playing down there, they've had a couple of skilled players go off the rails at the Raiders over the last few years and don't think much of Sticky as a coach.

Might be a decision he'll regret, but at least we can move on now, but big decision, do we play him and give us a better shot at doing something this year or is that just pie in the sky thinking and we'd be better off thinking of the future?

This really is a disgrace - just over 10 yrs ago, the club made a decision to put juniors first when we lost Hoffman to Melb over money. Since then, there are few local products that we've not signed up early to keep in the club.

How can you say that , how do you know if Mayer didn't try to sign him in the off season , if you seriously don't know the ins and outs of the contract discussion that took place best you don't comment on it if you don't know the facts.
I would personally like to congratulate Mayer for standing firm and not be held to ransom , money won't necessarily buy him success but his free to do what he wants .
If we would of matched the Raiders offer I'm sure Gavett , Thompson and our up and comers will be lost to other clubs .
He will be a loss no doubt but for that money I'm glad his gone .

I think you are right willow, Rowe not the answer. Perhaps time to groom Moses at fullback. Cannot blame Tedesco for taking the money but will forever view him as a traitor. Harsh but passionate!

I too thought $320 odd thousand rising over the final 2 years was a decent offer for a 25 game player, sure he has potential, plenty maybe, but he has been injured his whole career, could that change, yes, could it get worse, also yes.
Unlike one bloke on here I think Mayer has put the future of the club first and not tried to get near the stupid money the raiders have offered.
I too think we try Simona at fullback bring in Koro and give Noffo a crack at centre, leave Teddy out,we have to plan for the future too just like Teddy has done this morning..

Never rated him anyway. Crap player.

Nah, just kidding, thats me dealing with it. real shame and a loss to us.

Its a business. And if a competitor offered me a tonne of cash to work for them I'd take it. As would most of us. It's a shame, and potentially has a bigger hangover slap in the face as losing a Fifita. But as one door closes another one opens. He's only 1 player. Who is asking for a lot of money - dare I say more than he's currently worth IMO. Who's to say he wont go on to be worth more. Or perhaps eventuate to be nothing as well. It's done, time to look forward and onwards.

absolutely gutted.
wish him all the luck in the world.. i think he's made a mistake.

mayer has put it nicely… when another club identifies your junior as their marquee signing, it is almost imposssible to compete with that.

let's go teddy. do campbelltown proud!

Canberra didn't offer $800k per season, but they're certainly paying him top dollar given he's only 25 games into his career. In my opinion the Tigers offered a very fair deal but for one reason or another, it wasn't enough.

You think its a mistake for a 21 yr old to take a contract of almost 1 mil a yr?

I think we'll be best served by playing Moses at 6 next year alongside Brooks provided he can put on another 5kg.

I'm heartbroken.

I would be resigning Koroibete immediately and grooming Nofoaluma for fullback next year.

I certainly wouldn't mind keeping him but I think the Sharks are circling him.

x 2\. .. after having watched teddy develop through the nyc and helped the kid through 12 month rehab etc this is really disappointing. in fact I am really filthy about this. the tigers are I believe on the cusp of something special over the next few years and teddy would have been a part of this. money isn't everything ( although some might say it is generally ahead of whatever is second ) but if teddy wants to stock up on thermals and have an incompetent moron / hack for a coach that's his choice.
move on tigers and blood a new fullback asap[.

short term- it's a jackpot.
long term- i dont think he'll reach his best at canberra and with canberra's track record (esp with sticky as coach now), it will be hard for him to secure a better contract after 3 years.

i hope im wrong though. i personally would've taken the gamble to stay at the tigers.

koro is a must… we cant lose him.
idc about his defense as long as he has speed.

Totally understand why the club didn't match the offer. If we did we would be in a bad position when our other young stars we up for renewals.

Time to start building a style of play around Brooks, Moses, Sironen, Simona, Nofo etc No point playing Tedesco again in 2014 if he isn't part of our future.

But it was bound to happen we lose 1 or 2 players we can't keep them all unfortunately, if we signed tedesco who knows we might have lost gavet, Rowe, and Thompson for all we know, as well as probably now koro to raiders or sharks also
