Surely we cannot put any blame back on Wests Tigers as a club if he does not accept a 1 million dollar per season offer.
Same as Bula, Wests Tigers have played a major part in allowing them to become the player they are today and it’s rumoured we have made them exceptionally good offers to stay with us long term, you cannot ask for any more than that.

Had to laugh at the Telegraph reporting of the May boys re- signing in the paper today .. the story is the size of a postage stamp … imagine the hysteria if they were leaving ?

The Herald has an appropriate sized story… but their angle is the “bizarre “ instagram post/ joke rather than it being a great outcome for WT

This is a really big deal. To lock in a top level prop and get a strike centre (a position we were weak in) as a bonus. If we kick on to a finals playing team in the next few seasons we’ll be looking back on this as a big plank.

I don’t think May’s impact on the club can be underestimated. Yes he produces big numbers but I don’t think it’s a coincidence Twal and Pole have improved significantly since his arrival. Sure there are other factors and these things are tricky to measure but Twal has gone from lovable plodder to an offloading metre eater. It’s hard to not to think the standards he sets aren’t rubbing off on others.

So yeah happy days. Luai was a slight disappointment but one that ultimately may work for us in the long run. Losing the two Mays would have set us back big time.

Agree. Our forwards are dominating which is a huge reason why things have changed. The May boys are huge for us.

Based on watching bits and pieces of a few of Hull KR’s recent games, I don’t think an ageing Tyrone May would have the high energy or defensive resolve to play 13.
He does a lot of good things as a 7, but his style is very slow paced which I don’t think would work too well in the NRL.
If it was my decision I would consider signing him as a back up 7 or 6 who could potentially play minimal game time as a replacement at 9, but would only really be doing it as a favour to his brothers and would only offer him minimal money.

Taumalolo has been on a mil a season for years and years and has been bog average for a big chunk of that. Im confident TDM is far better than he is so if it is that so be it hes worth it to us.

At least we're smart enough not to take a risk on a bash it up forward for 10 years and think that at some stage he won't be injured or that he will be able to produce the same output for the whole time.

We don’t like that he’s choosing to leave before year 4 and 5 because it feels like rejection, but objectively it is a great outcome for all parties. We will have got 3 seasons from him arguably at the peak of his powers. That’s worth the $1.2M we are paying per season. The $1.2M for years 4 and 5 could be considered the overs we needed to secure him in the first place. If we had signed him from the get go at $1.2M for 3 seasons everyone would have been applauding. Marquee money but not for too long. If you take the emotion out of it, this is genius.

100% agreed. Terrell has been awesome. I have no idea how or why Easts let him go. Did he bang Trent Robinsons missus? It's a rare gift from the gods him signing here.

Ill also state Turuva's impact on the backline cannot be understated. Suddenly we are not giving away 2 tries on the wing and in 2025, teams would actually attack us in the middle. Skelton less so, still the upgrade in edge defense has been massive.

Luai though isn't a disappointment. It's the behind the scenes culture upgrade that he has delivered and our thinking/maneuvering. Remember when Luai first came here and people said "We thought Luai can't play without Cleary. Instead it's Cleary who can't play without Luai". The riff lost a whole stack of games and it was really Luai who was the main man missing.

Luai:
Upgraded our defense.
Upgraded our attitude and belief in our team. Only Luai and Turuva confronted Galvin when he left.
Upgraded our training.
...
Has not Gelled in attack or became "batman"* aka our halfback.


Glad we have the May's locked down. Luai has worked well for us and really given this team a shot in the arm. Someone else said it best though "were approaching the Josh Reynolds years now". We don't need a 5/8 and an aging 5/8 at that.

*Why would Batman be a halfback. Seriously why? Batman would grab the ball, outstep 3 defenders and punch out 2 more then score the try himself. Batman is no team player. A halfback in superhero terms would be closer too Spiderman... Sense and reason, won't lead but will support the leader.

Re-signings are never as big of a deal as when players sign for other clubs.

I have no problems with Luai leaving will make him even more hungry to leave with success this and next season. It’s a great junction point for both sides.

If we think bigger picture view it should give Latu clarity when we needed it most for the kid about his chance to own a spot long term & when. Which in turn gets the brother pack signed for long term - for us that is very important.
