Deal was dead in the water after chairman said on radio tpj not a good fit.

Maybe he isn't? He does come with some baggage? Though I still would of wanted him here.

I think one needs to be 100% certain about paying big money for a player. Does anyone here have that degree of confidence in this player?

Ikin would have seen enough of him and have enough contacts at the Broncos to have a better idea. Ikin would have orchestrated this before he took the job. He is nothing if not perceptive.

A player like Haas is a 100% guy.
I look at the positive side that we beat the auction price up for the Bulldogs to be the mugs.

You'd think the Broncos would be going all out to get him to the tigers, it frees up salary and a position in their roster this season.

you people still wasting your time on this thread. life is too short to waste time on this type of thing. HE IS NOT COMING HERE. end of story, move on.

I like our forwards, it is not often they have been bashed, when they turn up? I think a hard nut signing would be good, maybe Musgrove will fill that role?

I would be thinking that our backs are the issue, our lack of pace is a huge problem.

From Pete Badel:

"Pangai Jr was on the verge of formally committing to the Tigers last month, only for the deal to collapse at the eleventh hour when Wests bosses got cold feet during negotiations and briefly walked away from talks."

Has there ever been a club worse at negotiations lol

Maybe TPJ proved himself to be an idiot or unreliable in those discussions. Nobody was there to say what happened.

Don't fret over it too much. Negotiations be damned anyway, it almost always comes down to money when you are talking about clubs outside the Top 4.

we are stupid we either wanted him a month ago or we didn't dumb way to negotiate

Exactly , walk away and say that’s our final price. Don’t come back after you talk to the media and say we aren’t taking it further and make yourself look stupid when you miss out on him.

we just look like fools don't jump back in to negotiations after saying you were pulling out.
Another one lost that is fact
On the plus side ewe have lost worse in JAC and Latrell
May aswell keep aiming at juniors and not overpaying

You don't actually know what happened. None of this is specifically verified - all newspaper rumours.

BTW, just checked again, there is nothing on the Dogs site to say he's signed?

I’m sure Bulldogs moved quickly with TPJ once we halted original negotiations then Phil Gould (scene stealer) delayed the announcement until he announced himself at the Dogs so he gained all the accolades!

If Bulldogs moved so quickly why has TPJ still not officially signed with anyone yet?

While Hagipantelis admits that Pangai Jr is a talented player, he confirmed that the Tigers won’t be making a move for the soon to be off contract forward.

“I didn't actually meet with him but I’m told he’s a great young fella, very impressive young fella

***“And we know how good of a footballer he can be but the club just made a decision that that wasn’t the direction they wanted to move, so we didn’t."***

Lee shouldn't say things like that and then go back to the negotiating table. It helps noone.

Paying overs for someone like Brandon Smith would be an absolute no brainer. Strengthens a position on the field and adds so much off it.

I agree but this isn't a thread about Brandon Smith, it's about Tevita Pangai. Same as the Finucane talk - he's not that next-tier signing.

There's only been 1 next-tier signing for the Tigers and it was Latrell. And he was very close to doing the deal, decided instead he'd go to Souths for (reportedly) less money and less pressure. Nobody else signed Latrell except Souths, not Titans, not Bulldogs, not Dragons.

On Brandon Smith types, yes I agree with you, you can afford to risk going overs. On most of the other options - no, don't do it. I can't believe anyone having lived through Mbye, Packer, McQueen, Reynolds would be suggesting to pay overs for that level of player again.

Bottom line if we are up against another team when trying to sign a player we miss out. If we are the only team bidding we are still no certainties.

The only way we are going to change it is to get a coach or administrator who has plenty of pulling power and pay overs

I don't see that it matters. Also you don't know exactly the sequence of events or how it played out. Maybe TPJ's manager asked us to come back to the table.

My point is why would you make any comment at all? There's no upside to it. He just looks like a goose. He never learns.

I've got no idea to be honest, but if the Dogs have signed him (not saying they wont), I would think it would be on their website by now?

Just checked again and zip, they do mention 2 other signings though? Okunbor & Katoa?

Lee doesn't give any context to what happened. He just said they "made a decision that that wasn't the direction they wanted to move". That could be in relation to cost-benefit ratio, to TPJ's manager's negotiation tactics, to the role TPJ wanted to play in the roster etc.

Anything could have happened to bring Tigers back to negotiations, if that is indeed what happened, which I don't believe has been corroborated by anyone at Tigers.
