Pete Badel just reported this:

It is understood the Tigers were ready to table a two-and-a-half year deal for an immediate transfer, but Pangai Jnr’s asking price, said to be in excess of $700,000 a season, shapes as an impediment.

Also saying dragons could be keen on him

Brent Read saying he thinks we've gone cold on signing tpj.

Can listen here. It's the 6min version towards 4 min mark https://www.triplem.com.au/story/brent-read-s-huge-update-on-gareth-widdop-s-return-to-the-nrl-177466

We all know what will happen and we will miss out on both TPJ and Funicane because the decision makers at our rubble of a club cannot agree on something.. FFS someone needs to take charge and make a decision because our marquee signings will be Joey L and Packer extending their stay the way we are going.. Listening to that it sounds like we are low balling players and hoping they have no choice but to come here.

I am the first to throw the club under the bus but there’s no point paying $700k for TPJ. He’s not worth it.

I always thought I was 1st to throw them under the bus

We better do a roster Avo ...throw @gallagher on it as well

Sounds like a good little group we’re getting together Hap!

Lodge to NZ gives me confidence that if TPJ wants to leave Brisbane this year that we will get him. if he thinks he can wait it out til next year then that might hurt our chances, but if he wants to leave this year we have the roster spot and cap space to do so. I can't think of many other clubs apart from the chooks that would have amount of spare cap that we do.

By recent reports, suggest our offer to TPJ is in, all we can do is wait now?

Is our offer a "Heads of agreement" because that will sure land us TPJ
Man this club needs a decent Signing because I'm getting to old on tired to keep on waiting
And TPJ is still not an elite player
It shows how desperate we all are if we are hanging on for a TPJ Signing
Imagine if we signed a Paps or LM or Trbojevic
This place would go off
TPJ is just the start of what we need
They better hurry up and get a move on because we have waited way to long for some good news
I say good because any other Signing has been average

Has Angus Crichton re-signed with the chooks?
I’d offer him that 700k before TPJ.

Deal is as good done & speaking to someone with links to the Roosters at the Confraternity shield they have asked the Raiders for permission to negotiate with Tapine

As in he's coming here? What's the chance he gets a early release if so?

The Roosters, it is to be announced after Origin, why would he come to the Tigers

Just what the Roosters need more gun Backrowers ?

Paying overs for players is not and never has been good policy but it it is what we have repeatedly done in the past for zero results.Buying TPJ or Finucane at inflated prices will do nothing to change that.Caveat Emptor

How do you know that to be true? Who thinks what? What decision needs to be made?

It was the POM that mentioned yesterday that there were some that wanted Funicane and some that didn't. Some that wanted TPJ and some didn't ...
Players and there management won't hang around while our Management mull over who they want. If another teams comes in and agrees to there terms we miss out.. Simple as that. I would stick up more for the club and recruitment team if we actually signed a quality player but the proof is in the puddling as they say.
I will also give credit where it is due and they have done an excellent job at buying younger talent and I have said that for the last 12 months.

I want the Club questioning 4 year deals for Funicane and paying a large chunk for Pangai Jnr ..shows to me they are not prepared to roll over and panic like previous management have done...

No he didnt. He said they were divided about Finucane but not TPJ.

If you are using The Pom as your source to build a narrative that the club is crippled by indecision, it doesnt sit well with the Pom saying that we have tabled a formal offer for TPJ. That would seem reasonably decisive ....no?

Paying overs for inconsistent players is not how you turn a club into being successful

you are 100% correct but you will never win a comp with all juniors in a side because they need the guidance and experience for which we lack.. I personally think we are holding onto the bad decisions of the past E.g Reynolds / Packer and we need to more on. We just need to get the 1st high profile one to start the domino effect but they will not come here for peanuts and I cannot blame them.
As a club we have ample money available and need to take a risk because it doesn't roll over to the next year. I am not saying pay TPJ or Funicane 900k but if we offered Funicane 650k for the 3 years he wants I think he would do wonders to these young guys both on and off the field. Call it an investment into all these young players we brought as they are currently looking up to Packer and Mbye.. let that sink in.

Oh we definitely need some big name signings and I'm happy to pay overs for someone if they're constantly good, problem with TPJ is he can fall asleep at the wheel a lot and paying him overs would be a big risk and could screw is

Lodge being released might actually hurt our chances of getting TPJ - they weren't able to register Capewells contract until they released a player from their deal next year and that was lodge, now they have no real reason to release Pangai (although knowing Kevvy it could easily still happen)

The reason to release Pangai is not to continue paying someone you don't want in 2022.

Lol when will we actually signed good players we are linked to?

Give it time mate. We need some success and hope another club needs to shed some players due to the cap.

Agree a 4 year deal should not even be considered for either player.
