Not saying players should not do this, but that fans should not be so upset when the club also tries to puts themselves first.

It is definitely a two way street. If players are breaking their contracts then there is nothing wrong with clubs following suit to further their own (the club's) needs.
 
the thing a lot of people are missing with this story - money fame redemption yadda yadda aside…..

his signature on a supposed contract was forged
so all the goodwill the titans had put in vanished immediately.
When your employer and or team shows you that you cant trust them...... how could he stay.

some of you say he merely wanted more money .... but its like any pay rise where the aim is to squash immediate concerns... it only does that for a minute and then before long its back to "what is the boss doing now"

again - how could he stay....

I simply cannot believe this forum. Or rather, I can.

The best centre (arguably) in the world declares his availability and our own fans find BS reasons why we shouldn't even throw our hat in the ring. That he is a potential bad news story? That he might be a one season wonder? You guys might as well rule out every player ever!

jirskyr, I usually like your posts but this time you are comparing him to DCE, Milford, Folau et al as a justification for why we shouldn't put in an offer? That doesn't even makes sense!

I'm not saying that we can even attract a player like Roberts, but at the very least I want us to put in an offer!

A fan of any club who objects to the mere idea of putting in an offer for star players cannot ever whinge that they can't attract star players. It's like crying that you can't win the lottery when you refuse to even buy a ticket.
 
From what I saw a signature is taking it too far, it was JR on the contract, but maybe when he writes JR he does it with more flair. It really looked like an 8 year old had scribbled on the contract.
 
We need to be doing everything we can to sign this guy imo. He is a deadset game changer and would finally have a specialist right centre to pair with Simona. Simona and the juniors heleta and seve are specialist left centres

Edit* would also be probably the quickest centre pairing in the game
 
Anyone who thinks we're even a sniff of of landing this guy needs to be tested for magic mushrooms immediately. Why would a player of his calibre leave one mediocre club for another? It's not happening so do yourselves a favour and step back into reality. He'll end up at the Broncos.

I reckon he will end up at easts where he can play fullback or cover for fergo if he makes the transition.
 
If he does end up at broncos, I'll be seeing if Dale Copley wants another year in reserve grade or a starting spot at the mighty WT…

Clubs make room for the players they want. Every club will be chasing this signature, except those who said they couldnt afford Farah. Obviously those clubs cant afford him :astonished:

What some are saying is that it doesn't hurt to put an offer in.
WT might not be in his radar, but we'll never know, if the club doesn't try.
We propably can't afford him, but let us dream on.

That isn't quite what I am saying.

What I am saying is that Roberts is not without risk and that risk has a dollar value attached to it. His asking price has exploded in the last 12 months and I do not feel this is a price WT can afford. Not just literally: "can we actually afford his salary", which maybe we cannot, but also can we afford to take a pricey gamble right now.

It's all well and good to look at the Broncos as a possible destination, but they have just come 2nd, have a very experienced coach, strong depth across many positions and turn a strong profit every year. Broncos can afford to gamble on big salaries.

So I'm not saying that we should not throw our hat in the ring, but surely we all know, as GNR has pointed out, it is a shabby, second-hand hat.

In regards to comparing Roberts to guys like DCE and Milford, that has nothing to do with whether or not we should make an offer. That comment is related to poor Gold Coast who did take the punt on a troubled footballer, got him into excellent form, and then he quit on them. Those comments are about player loyalty.

As to being arguably the best centre in the world, well you did say arguably, and I don't think he's in that league yet, no.

Yeah but the point is neither should be able to break contracts so easily. Its a joke.
 
Even with our salary cap problems , We should at least have a crack. So the likes of Easts / Broncos will have to pay top dollar to get him. Play the game and put pressure on these clubs re Salary Cap issues in the media.

That is what I was told. Souths want Roberts back and I get the impression it also helps them with getting Burgess' contract through the NRL.

My own understanding of the piece is that Inglis has always had desires to play in QLD, and we all know he came very close to signing with Broncos last time. Souths feel Inglis has given them the service they require and are looking a bit more towards youth, especially with the salary cap pressures they feel right now trying to get Burgess back. Burgess is the linchpin of their future plans.

I was told it could even happen today, so let's see. Papers are still speculating broadly about Roberts considering he's only been released since last Friday, but my understanding is that new deals were set in motion before Roberts was formally granted a release.

If you listen to Greg Bird's comments, he believes Roberts always wanted out of Titans and the contract imbroglio has given him the opening to do a deal with someone else.
 
How could the Broncos possibly fit Inglis in under their cap given how much he currently earns at the Rabbitohs. Inglis would not be prepared to take a significant pay cut, plus the NRL won't accept a nominal payment amount for any star players????? Souths would have to pay a fair portion of his contract for 2016, but hey nothing surprises me when it comes to the Broncos, Roosters etc fitting players in under their caps.
