The Ashes

Earlier Ian Chappell commenting on how it was interesting that the Ball bounced along the ground before rolling. He actually showed a replay of this. Now talking about the batsman’s rubber spikes. Time to go Mr Chappell.

PS Lyon bowling beautifully

Yeah we aren't real lucky sending teams back in

I think Australia is the only side that has lost after enforcing the follow on and we have done it three times now

We can't lose the Test if we bat them out of it

Can't win a Test if you can't bat them out of it either. They had the ball singing last night, absolute stupidity to go back in.

That was always going to happen CB , they have this policy and they had already rolled out around 65 overs from memory

If we rolled them for under 200 , it may have been different

chappell is one of the originals- tony grieg, richie benaud have passed on whilst who know whats happening with bill lawry.
chappell was a much more flamboyant player than he is a commentator. He was a brash, aggressive captain and could bat a bit.He certainly doesnt reflect this in his commentary . Sometimes you have to wonder just what he is talking about .He did enjoy his squabbles with greggy though.

david hookes used to say that if you were selected to play for nsw you also got your baggy green in a brown paper bag.i often wonder that about being the australian cricket team captain- you get the captaincy and you get to be a channel 9 cricket commentator when you finish playing.

Ian Chappell and Tony Greig were given ‘jobs for life’ by Kerry Packer as part of the WSC deal. Chappell cannot be retired by anyone at channel 9.

True about Aussie captains - just need Border and Waugh

not enforcing was a bad call IMO.

had a chance to bowl them under the lights with a brand new ball and do some serious damage.

you wouldn't enforce a follow on when you have good batting conditions.

Smith throws away both reviews in both overs. Now if one of the Poms nicks it and doesn't walk, blame the Aussie captain.

Cook is Garry's bunny..

You'll be happy Geo , KOD is still working a treat , just PMed Hobbo and said if the Poms get it within 120 without losing a wicket they had a big chance

:wahoo:

They are fighting very hard…Poms bowled very well today...earned their wickets...

New Ball will be the key for us..

Engrossing game, the most interesting couple of hours of the series so far.

I thought the day night test was a bad idea at first, I have to say I think it's brilliant after three years and hope we start to see them shared around the country.

Yep have to agree - i thought it was a strange decision at the time - i can understand not enforcing the follow on under normal conditions i.e. daytime tests but under night time conditions and with the momentum it was a no brainer.

According to Starc he didn't even consult the bowlers.

Absolute lunacy. Root gets started early today and they'll probably grab this. They've got a long tail but if they all fire at once we're in the proverbial.

England need a good first hour to get this to 50/50\. The old adage of looking at the score and adding two wickets applies here.

A lot of teams get into the position they are in now and then fizzle out. Australia still have the runs on the board and that is priceless.

Gutsy innings by Root.

England will live and die in this Test on his contribution today

The other player in my opinion is Moeen Ali , he can score quickly and could take the Test away if he sticks around for 90 minutes or more

For them to win, he probably needs 150, with support from Ali and Bairstow. Woakes has a big job to try and hang with Root, assuming Root doesn't get out first.
