The Mufti of Australia Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohamed, has flown over to Indonesia earlier this month to plea for the Bali 9 duo to be spared from the death penalty.

He is a much better advocate to speak with Muslim officials over there than our laughable Australian politicians who are a joke to the world with how they treat asylum seekers.

I can only assume that most would think life behind bars would be a fair call on the duo, but unfortunately someone needs to pay the bills to keep them locked up.

How they treat asylum seekers huh like the Lindt cafe bomber.The rest of the world wipes its ass with asylum seekers( who culturally and religiously are much more similiar to them)except Australia,USA,Germany,Great Britain,Sweden etc.Why do every man and his dog seem intent on blowing up the white mans world but in the same breath they are trying everything they can to live in it.

You claim the Australian politicians are laughable and well as politicians they are but like it or lump it irrespective of what you want to believe our politicians are amongst the best in the world due to our low levels of corruption compared to almost all others around the world.Depite the best efforts of Joe Tripodi,Michael Costa and Eddie Obeid and there little gullible lap dog Christine Kenneally to import corruption levels to this country to an unbelievable level.

Snake,dont get me wrong I certainly have no time for drug dealers,their acts were wrong and have been found guilty as such….my argument is,if the Indonesian govt are so hellbent on executing these offenders,then why wait ten years..they should have been shot nine years ago if the Indonesians were fair dinkum about their laws...

As has been noted their Lawyer couldnt come up with the money for a lighter sentence at the time...

really says a lot about the laws in their country....money speaks all languages especially in a corrupt Govt...

Pretty sure they are kept alive cause the local police etc love getting all the money from aussie media outlets selling their stories etc.Once the money train stops they are executed.As many of my asian friends tell me In Asia Money is king everything else(human life included) is a very distant second.

What does the Lindt cafe shooting have to do with how we treat assulym seekers? You want to highlight a 1 off situation caused by a mentally disturbed man, and ignore the fact that our very own citizens partake in shootings, stabbings, drug trafficking, rape etc on a regular basis? There are always going to be bad apples in any society. Doesn't take a brain surgeon to work that one out.

And yes we are a laughing stock in many instances. Selling off our country for a quick buck is what I call stupid government. And back on point, the mufti of Australia is their last hope in getting off the death penalty.

And what is this white mans world you refer to? Last time I researched about this land, it belonged to the black man.

You state that 'muslim' countries are at war with the west. When was the last time a 'muslim' country invaded the 'white' mans world. Bias with your views don't you think? Your 'white' nations have been in constant wars over the past 100 years. Invading, economic manipulation & stealing resources all leading to modern en-slavery of third world nations.

Sure there are some nut jobs out there overseas who are committing horrendous crimes and have a hatred towards western governments due to wars & sanctions they have imposed on them. But that is a very small minority. Why highlight the view of a minority when 1.6 Billion reject that ideology they hold & which is re-circulated in the media to cause fear mongering. It's turning a ant into an elephant, It's you who has been fed dis-information.

I've always stated that we shouldn't interfere with the sovereignty of other nations, however I now think that pushes need to be made to encourage all nations who practice state sponsored murder to abolish it.

To expand on the point, I was thinking about my original comments about how I said that their laws must be respected but to be consistent, that would mean I would support Iran executing gays because homosexuality is illegal and punishable by death and that doesn't sit right with me. Moreover, the clandestine corruption in the judicial system and political grandstanding by Widodo meant this was never about stopping the drug flow, just capitalising on Indonesian nationalism to appease certain factions in his government when he is struggling at a domestic political level.

Lastly, I support the death penalty in principle, but I simply do not think any justice system anywhere in the world is remotely capable enough to try by and appropriate the death penalty, much less the Indonesian system where it seems apparent now that they were prepared to execute a seemingly innocent woman, until the person who set her up developed a conscience at the 11th hour.

They are still criminals, and I make no attempt to absolve them of personal responsibility for their actions. To some extent I think that Indonesia has it's sovereign right to determine and administer it's own laws, but pressure needs to be placed on places like Indonesia, China and even our firm allies in the USA to abolish capital punishment as I'm starting to believe that we need to get past the idea that satisfying our bloodlust equates to justice and evolve a little bit more as a global society.

To be fair at a political and diplomatic level, all that could be done was Demps. Indonesia was never going to stop the executions. Every diplomatic attempt to engage them amounted to nothing and shy of sending commandos in to bust them out, they were never going to be saved. Wouldn't have mattered if they were Caucasian or not. Those two guys were as Australian as any of us and I am satisfied the government did whatever they could from a diplomatic standpoint to spare their lives.

The only time Indonesia ever responded with any conviction to Australian dialogue was when Abbott made the comment about the Tsunami aid, and that was a response of a wounded ego.

Worst part of this was there was not one bit of consideration given to the rehabilitation the two had completed…I know it is the country and the law for drug trafficking,however why drag it out so long and let these two do so much good work just to shoot them and show the world what a tough stance they have taken...it will not clean the country of its own drug trade or abuse,it will still remain....yet murder 80 plus people in a terrorist attack,and walk free after 5/6 years...shambolic....Our Govt in my opinion did the very best it could under the circumstances,I do not approve of drugs or drug related crimes,however if someone is to rehabilitate and change their ways I would approve of more time in prison doing good rather than kill someone for mistakes they had made....FORGIVENESS is not such a hard word to learn and understand.....

You're talking in absolutes. Unless you're suggesting any heroin trafficker should be killed you are inherently supporting a policy of discretionary punishment and rehabilitation. Killing 2 people doesn't solve the drug problem, it just sends a message that atonement is futile and not worth the effort.

Problem is Gunners is that there will always be someone desperate enough to take the coin on offer. If you're struggling to feed to your kids or crippled by debts (which is what I believe was the catalyst of Van Nguyen being hung, he was smuggling to pay his brothers' debts off,) and you need the money quick, it is an attractive option if you don't get caught.

The extension of that is that plenty of the mules don't get caught, drugs still come into our borders every goddamn day.
