The battle for the spoon..

I think we've won this one. Whilst not denying the effort, it seemed clear to me that both teams have very little to offer by way of competing against any other NRL club this year. There are still some games ahead, sure, but with a very realistic (and likely) 0-5 record coming up, for us just seems like a bridge too far already.
As for last night's game, how can you go a full game without scoring a try against this Titans team really baffled me. Perhaps now we are so insecure in our abilities that no one is prepared to take a risk and therefore we become easy to mangage for any team we play against. The language from some of the players interviewed seemed to indicate almost a resigned approach, one of "We tried hard", but without any real passion or desire to want to do better.

Once we get more than one win behind 15th, that’s when it starts to look bleak. It’s not like this is surprising though. It was obvious in the off season our roster was the worst in the comp. Every club down the bottom of the ladder improved their rosters....Except us.

Well when you put it that way..
Seriously though, it’s far too early to be talking about the spoon. If we can talk about the spoon we should be also talking about the finals. Something will click. All we need is a settled spine and players getting comfortable with Brooksy directing traffic. It looks like it’s starting to work.

The last Wooden Spoon was awarded in 1909 to Cuthbert Lempriere Holthouse.—image: University of Cambridge

Impressive!
MEANING
Wooden spoon
: an imaginary prize said to be awarded to the person who is last in a race or other competition
ORIGIN
At the University of Cambridge, an over-sized wooden spoon was traditionally presented to the last of the junior optimes, that is to say, the lowest of those taking honours in the Mathematical Tripos. The term wooden spoon was applied to this position in the examination and to the person who took it. The University of Cambridge explains that, up until 1909, the results were not published in alphabetical order:

Mathematical Tripos examiners listed honours graduates in continuous order of merit, divided into three classes: wranglers, senior optimes and junior optimes. Tremendous prestige attached to being senior wrangler (head of the list) and notoriety to the man at the bottom. He was dubbed, and received from his friends, the wooden spoon.
So to win the spoon for coming last your also a big dummy 😭

There are some bad teams, but all of them have played above the standard we have shown. Teams like the Warriors, Dogs and Newcastle have been in most games and shown heart. Unlike us
Also Titans, Dragons and Manly if Turbo can’t play. Any of those teams could strike a rough patch and we could strike a purple patch? It may be something as simple as Sheens having a couple one on one counselling sessions with Brooks? Or the top 17 having a few single malts and getting to know each other. ??.

I know you have to try and look for positives, but I can’t see any of those things happening. Once we fall more than one win behind the pack, that’s when the hill starts getting steep. Especially with the draw over the next few weeks. Our roster is not good enough. Simple as that.
