The Bus is FULL

The Telecrap on Sunday said the Bulldogs might even have to get rid of Klemmer of Josh Jackson, to become compliant next year.
I'd take Jackson without even hesitating.
I'm saving a seat on the bus for him or someone of his standard.

Its definitely not full.

Apart from another back (Rona), we need a decent 2nd rower to complement the forward pack. maybe another seasoned prop.

We are on the right track though.

With an offseason training for the position i think Marsters could move to the 2nd row next year. Solid defender, runs good lines, good hands.

He's a backrower by trade, there won't really be a transition required for him.

Yes I knew he played backrow in lower grades. Thought it may be a big step up at NRL level. He has the right build for it and with a bit of fine tuning I think he could handle it.

Their issue is that other clubs would need to pay the full contract or close to it and there are very few players who clubs are prepared to pay the whole amount to. Probably only Klemmer or Jackson. The Dogs are in such a terrible position they can't subsidise any contracts. If it was us it'd be on the back page every day.

I reckon they could get the Warriors or Newcastle to pick up enough of the contract of James Graham to get them out of trouble. They'd end up paying $300K+ of his salary but it would only be one year and better to lose Graham at his age than lose Jackson or Klemmer who they have locked up for a few years.

I don't think that'll do it.

Can't forget that it's a top 30 next year on full time contracts. That's literally a first 17 plus the run-on side for reserve grade. Looking at our squad from that perspective, we've still got gaps to fill. Using Milky's thread as a bit of a guide plus a few hopeful signings of my own (marked with a *), here's what I've got.

1\. Lolohea // Marshall-King
2\. Nofoaluma // Watene-Zelezniak
3\. Suli // Naiqama*
4\. Fonua // Milne
5\. Rona* // Thompson
6\. Reynolds // Gamble
7\. Brooks // Marshall
8\. Matulino // Felise
9\. Liddle // McIlwrick
10\. Packer // Grant*
11\. Taylor // Rochow
12\. Lawrence // Idris*
13\. Eisenhuth // Aloiai
14\. Marsters
15\. Twal
16\. Sue
17\. McQueen

There's question marks over the health of McQueen & Lawrence, no guarantees that we'll have either Rona or Naiqama, and that top 17 isn't ideal either (but I think will be closer to reality). Still leaves the likes of Tatola, Lolo, Chee-Kam, the new Newcastle kids and Heleta as squaddies for reserve grade.
There's definitely work to be done, especially if we don't see a few of those with an asterisk around next year.

We are well covered in the halves: Brooks, Reynolds , Lolohea, Marshall, Gamble.
With only Lolohea pencilled in at fullback , I think we need a bit more depth there. I would like Ivan to do a similar thing at fullback as to what he has done in the halves. (Sign a promising youngster Gamble and some cheap experience Benji). Maybe someone like Gordon and that Newcastle youngster .

If Hayne gets shown the door today and we don't end up with Rona would you consider signing Hayne as a winger?

**No IMHO.
Apart from his ego and greedy play, he's nowhere near the player he once was.
And we don't need him. Stacks of talent at the Tigers now - great mix of young and experienced next season. I'm getting excited already.**

Sabre, I suggest you read the following, which I posted on another thread a few days ago.

https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/jarryd-hayne-nrl-eels-titans-form-nathan-hindmarshs-brutal-assessment-on-matty-johns-show/news-story/30badd8b772268cb1f11445a737faaac

After reading this critique, how could you consider signing this self-opinionated trouble-maker to our Club, which is now on the right track!

Years ago I thought he was bludging when playing for Parra - only a few runs a game if that. Tedesco is much better value for money.

I think we are going to be fine next year. I will still like a backrower and prop but our pack is still looking alright. The Dogs are in trouble so I think we may get a quality forward from them or another struggling club.

If you add the additional 6 development players we have 36 positions to fill, or two full teams with a couple left over. That's one way to look at it. Based on ACTUAL signings to date, assumptions that Grant and Taylor extend and a few assumptions on who might be 'development' squad members, I think we still have up to 10 positions to fill in the roster next year.

SIGNED 2018
1\. Tuimoala Lolohea
2\. David Nofoaluma
3\. Esan Masters
4\. Moses Suli
5\. Mahe Fonua
6\. Josh Reynolds
7\. Luke Brooks
8\. Ben Matulino

22\. Corey Thompson
23\. Tyson Gamble (Development?)
24\. Benji Marshall
25\. JJ Felise
26\. Matt McIlwrick

28\. Michael Chee-Kam
29\. Heath Gibbs (Development?)

36.

OFF CONTRACT
Kevin Naqaima
Matt Eisenhuth
Joel Edwards
Watson Heleta
Justin Hunt
Jack Littlejohn
Jamal Idris
Kyle Lovett
Junior Tatola
Bayley Sironen

Based on this, I think we still need more depth in:
• fullback
• few props / lock
• second row
• hooker
• utility back

I think we should try to retain Naqaima, Eisenhuth, Tatola and Idris and keep an eye out for a decent fullback and some forwards.

**Hayne hasn't even left the Titans and we get a glimpse of the damage he can do.
According to Fox, Neil Henry is to be sacked and Hayne kept.
Money could be part of it but…**

I really cant see the dogs letting one of them two go whilst retaining Eastwood or Tolman….my tip is they will negotiate with the tigers management for us to keep woods

I think that you are correct about Woods staying at WT might even get some compensation to top up his salary

Only hearsay but an offer was made to Hayne - part of the deal was a roaming commission, so that he could pop up anywhere and give it his best shot. Apparently he liked this idea.

The stumbling block was that he wasn't allowed to attempt to score any tries between the posts.
Apparently the reasoning behind this was, that his head wouldn't fit between the posts. Lol.
