I still think we will miss Austin the most

People say he is a one trick pony , but a lot of good players have fallen for his one trick

If he can learn from anyone in regards to ball skills and developing a passing game Ricky Stuart is the guy

One of the best I have seen in my many years watching the game

Problem is if he didn't have enough confidence in his own ability to fight for the position, then he is better off going to a club that will let him dictate where he will play. I don't think he is any great loss
From what I've seen of Drinkwater , admittedly in trials and NSW cup, I would be happier with him in the team if we need a change. Seems like a better player and doesn't treat the ball like he owns it, plus has a much better kicking game.
I'm starting to think it might be a good change.
On a different note .
Is it your young bloke that I play this week in SC Hap??

Yes GCT

People can rightly criticise Austin and pick apart his game. Trouble is he will always win in the end, he has an x factor these so called experts cant get their head around and his simplicity and flaws are the things that make him dangerous.

Austin had a great passing game - I saw him pass it once… no..wait, hang on....

Last season in a NSWRL Cup game in NZ Austin virtually won the game on his own and shortly after that was promoted to the NRL where his style was all out attack, if it came off he was a genius but if it didn't he was prepared to cop it on the chin.
From my understanding the club wanted to keep him but he felt that he was only being used as a bench player and wanted to go somewhere where he could put in the whole 80 and have an influence on the game.
I don't know if down the track Blake will regret moving to the Raiders but I reckon the Tigers, down the track will regret releasing him to do so.

Blake is the only player I think we should have kept , the others I'm not to fussed, he could well have pushed one of the players out of our current team , Dean , Chris maybe

My point would be we have spent years trying to develop some players who just never looked like they would crack it , yet Austin had one part of his game that was way better than ANY other Tigers player and we didn't try and develop his passing game for more than one season

If it had been me , I would of told both Moses and Austin that the jersey was up for grabs and let the best man win on current form , but told Austin he had to work on his passing /control of the team around the park skills You make both accountable and we create competition for positions in the side which is a good thing Is it me , but sometimes the WT's seem to have a culture that if it looks like you might have some talent you already seem to take precedence over outside players ??

Too late for that now though

Just my opinion

Could well have done that with Brooks in the mix , which ever 2 players click they get the start
But Moses and Brooks will keep learning but if one doesn't get better we need to do what is best for the team

Wasn't Austin voted or awarded best for the season by his team mates? If so, how many clubs are keen to let go of this type of player? He seems to be going well down in Canberra, although typically, he's not satisfied. Always trying to better himself.

I have said it before and I will say it again….Blake Austin gave the Wests Tigers great value in whatever position they put him...he proved that many times..he had faults, but he gave 100 percent every game..PROVEN performer....

Brooks and Moses,a work in progress....all hype at this stage...

I think 'all hype' is a little bit tough TT. Without using their age as an excuse they have reached the highest levels of the game to date that they were eligible for, so I dont understand how else you could question their level of achievement, at twenty years old . One is currently the Dally M rookie of the year, and both are now transitioning into the most elite competition in the world. Looks like they are on track from my perspective.

Telltails, you could be right I may be a bit tough, but Brooks has had NRL exposure enough to start being the play maker he is purported to be…the forwards have done a magnificent job from where they were last year, and it is a shame to watch all their hard work end up with nothing on the last play options...granted Brooks is young, but we need to capitalise on the forwards hard work or fear we will burn them out with nothing to show..just my opinion Telltails and thank you for your input...

Well TT you can shoot me down for this opinion but…

It maybe hype to you - but it is media hype, which means nothing.

I thought that we are trying to win a competition in 2016 or 2017 rather than a few games in 2015\. It is a long term plan and not just a quick fix. Austin now is academic but with him or Drinkwater in my opinion we would not win the comp.

Brooks and Moses are the answer - they will not learn anything in the lower grades. It would be a bit like giving a 3rd or 4th year engineer a Mechano set to learn his trade.
They have to learn with the big boys and to the coaches game plan. Believe me, with Taylor, if you don't follow the game plan you end up out on your A...

So where does that leave us - a quick fix to no avail, or do we try and win the comp?

I know what my answer is..... Patience my friend!

Precisely!

CW Heighington…plays his 250th NRL game on the weekend....Well done Heigno

I personally would stick with Brooks and Moses because they look likely. They do have to prove it though and Austin to me is already proven.

Short term yes, we might get a few more wins here and there, but we certainly won't win a premiership with Austin and Drinkwater, where as with Brooks and Moses I can. So I am happy to wait a year or two.

Its a good effort.

It certainly is! For a guy with limitations to his game, the fact that he has had such a long time in the premier league competition in the world, is testament to his determination and attention to detail. Never my favourite player, but 'good on ya Chris'
