Give him another week. Brooks back for the knights game. Brooks at his best is miles ahead of Walters

His best was his debut game ...
For a halfback he has a very limited arsenal

I don’t think it’s limited at all. Short kicking, short passing, even his long kicking has improved plus his running game. He has the skills he’s shown that we just haven’t seen him use that this season. His passing has been off for whatever reason but that’s not to say he doesn’t possess the skills

Short kicking ...can’t thread the needle ❌
Torpedo bomb ..non existent ❌
Short passing ...hospital balls ❌
Long kicking...non existent ❌
Goal kicking ..non existent ❌
Field goal exponent ..non existent ❌
Chip n chase ...non existent ❌
Long spiral pass ...non existent ❌

Had speed and he’s a good defender ✅

Summary : not a halfback

Swap him for Harry Grant ... Maybe Belllamy can do something for him ?

Sorry but a lot of that isn’t true. Forced some of the most dropouts in 2018 and 2019 and we scored more tries off kicks than anyone partly due to Brooks. He has consistently put second rowers into holes the last few years, Lawrence., Garner and MCK can attest to that.

In years gone by his long kicking has been average but this season he did a good job of putting fullback under pressure close to their line with his kicking. Doesn’t have a bomb, long passing is average but not non existent, no goal kicking (not that it’s a requirement for halves) and the chip and chase is pretty much dead, but he has done them quite well in the past especially with Tedesco.

He’s certainly not the complete package but you are not giving him enough credit. We have not seen his best this season and he deserved to be dropped but we should be praying he finds good form again because when he does we are a lot better of a team.

Why are you going back to 2018?
The time is now !

Because you are acting like he doesn’t possess these skills at all, that’s what you’re literally saying. He does have all the skills I mentioned and he showed that in the last 2 seasons. Just because he’s out of form doesn’t mean he is incapable of doing it

But he doesn’t have the skills that’s my point !
7 years and he’s made 1 all stars game which was in 2015 if you want to go back to previous seasons .

If he’s shown he can do it how can he NOT have the skills! That makes no sense! I’m not saying he’s a rep level half but you saying he has poor short kicking and passing is just wrong ?

Madge has it wrong as well ????

Brooks won at least one game for us with a field goal. So yes he does kick file goals.

Brooks also has a very good chip and chase skill. That he chooses not to use it is probably under instruction from Maguure.

Madge is picking Billy Walters over Brooks

No knock on Billy , but he isn't the greatest 6 and Benji best spot isn't 7 .....

What does that tell you about Madge's mindset along with a helluva lot of Forum members

C’mon ...
If a chip n chase is on you go for it
Doesn’t matter what the coach says

Do you think Brad Arthur tells Moses
“ no chip n chase “

I'm pleased that Maguire shares his thoughts with you.

I am not privy to his thinking so I will confine my comments to my own view.

Brooks is a very good half who has stuck by our club even though many of our most talented juniors chose to leave. He performed well last night by saving a try, being involved in one, unlucky not to have been involved in another via Grant and also combined with Benji to nearly put Nofoaluma over.

He may have been in a slump but is doing everything right to get back which is probably what Maguire intended.

Almost ....nearly .......just about.....probably

My biggest concern for Brooks is his lack of confidence and hunger from the outside looking in. He appears to have popped his head back into his shell and when the game is in the balance he seems to go missing in action or just shovel off a pass as if he doesn’t want the ball in his hands.

I imagine personal characteristics are hard to coach and integrate into a player, which could be the issue moving forward unless we sign a decent foil that basically allows brooks to be the second fiddle that just chimes in when the opportunity presents itself.

Really goes back to Brooks being a runner and not an organiser, as it appears that he lacks that vocal toolkit to set the line, tell others where to be and where to run at a given time. Could be good under the right conditions, shows a bit of “potential” as we all know and have seen glimpses of over the years. The current problem as it stands seems to be his regression this year, and the underlying causation.

His game last night for me is not the concern but the general trend of stagnation over the recent times is my larger point of emphasis

Saved a try, instrumental in a try, Grant dropped the ball but would have faclitated another and Nofoaluma fumbled after great work form our two halves. Pretty clear cut for the discerning spectator.

Walters was calling for the ball heaps but Grant was going the other way most of the night, i thought Walters defended really well and id be prepared to give him another week in the top grade

The catch and pass to Mbye under pressure for Talau's TRY was pretty good...no TRY assist stat for that tho..

Nope he doesn’t have short or long passing apparently. Doesn’t count

Madge has it wrong as well ????

Again I’m not arguing whether he should’ve been dropped or not I’m saying at his best he is a good half. Madge has said the same thing multiple times in press conferences as well.

Madge is picking Billy Walters over Brooks

No knock on Billy , but he isn't the greatest 6 and Benji best spot isn't 7 .....

What does that tell you about Madge's mindset along with a helluva lot of Forum members

It has been 8 seasons now, if he was going to develop it would have happened, sadly it hasn't, maybe time to cash in

Is that you Kenny ?

Brooks has the uncanny ability to take the wrong option, passes to the wrong player regularly, runs when should pass and vice versa, if he can’t understand the game by now he never will,
