My biggest concern for Brooks is his lack of confidence and hunger from the outside looking in. He appears to have popped his head back into his shell and when the game is in the balance he seems to go missing in action or just shovel off a pass as if he doesn’t want the ball in his hands.

I imagine personal characteristics are hard to coach and integrate into a player, which could be the issue moving forward unless we sign a decent foil that basically allows brooks to be the second fiddle that just chimes in when the opportunity presents itself.

Really goes back to Brooks being a runner and not an organiser, as it appears that he lacks that vocal toolkit to set the line, tell others where to be and where to run at a given time. Could be good under the right conditions, shows a bit of “potential” as we all know and have seen glimpses of over the years. The current problem as it stands seems to be his regression this year, and the underlying causation.

His game last night for me is not the concern but the general trend of stagnation over the recent times is my larger point of emphasis

I agree - he now has Grant and Benji calling the shots over him. He needs to get a voice and after 140 odd games he should be demanding the ball as much as these guys. As good as Grant is i think he is starting to overplay his hand a bit - he is trying to read everything in front of him instead of mixing it up and allowing the halves a bit more rein.

The NRL really lacks quality half backs. Interesting to hear the Forum Members thoughts why there has been a deterioration over the last couple of season's?

It’s a really good question.
It’s a strange time when the best halfbacks are DCE and Cleary.
Have no idea why this is but I’m sure that this dearth of talent there won’t last.

I would have Luke Keary and Cameron Munster ahead of both ...but I guess they are not halfbacks..

So would I.
But like you said they aren’t 7’s.
All I did was look at the team lists and picked the best of them. And it really is slim pickings.

Maybe we could let them wear 7..

If funds are available should we offer Keary or Munster 1.2 million a season for three years.

According to the NRL top 100 earners list that came out in 2 parts, yesterday and today.
Brooks $600k
Keary $700k
Munster $850k

Brooks should be on job keeper

Neither will come here...

They will come if there’s a story and if they aren’t the only pieces coming.
Everyone wants to create history.
If we can sell our story, get a proper organising half, a kicker and some speed, we will be contenders. In two years we could have those things if we play our cards right.
Keary and Munster are the top top going right now. Tell either of them that if they don’t come then the other will and we will also be bringing in x, y and z. This is a team you will want to be a part of, a dynasty you could lead. Turn doubters into believers.

Luke had one bad game and most happily admitted that, but he will be back playing good footy, keeping his detractors as quiet as is humanly possible, even if that will still be a roar for the insatiable.

What is the full story with Zane Camroux?

How old?

Video looks real good. Had forgot about him, saw highlights last year but didn't remember until Paws put up the highlights.

Looks like he could be anything, I think he is worth nursing, getting a great coach for him.

He's in our U20s and is a Holy Cross Ryde product like a couple of other useful halves. I read he had offers from other clubs but his family brought him into WTs to sign. He is fast, has a good step, kicks goals. His father was a good half for the Tigers. How good is it his family wanted him to play with WTs?

Do you know how old he is Paws - looks about 17.

Yes, he's 17. I used to work with one of his uncles. Comes from a very good family, hard workers and reasonably intelligent too, good football brain on him. He's no midget either and is still growing. Suspect he'll end up a strong 6 with a playing weight up towards 100kg in the next few years.

Think he could be a terrific 6 Willow. Just bad luck he is only 17 and not quite developed enough at the moment.

He is just what we need but....patience.

Time to move him on. Would the Storm take him for Grant?

Would make a great running five eight with a dominate half like Prince or Cronk type.

We will not win a premiership with Brooks at half back

Why would they? They have Hughes and Munster, both are twice the player Brooks will ever be!

Munsters coming here

Hahaha nice one, have you been in Geo’s dreams again?

Ricky Stuart was chasing him. It was in the article about Hartigan joining the Club and stepping in to make sure he was signed.

I reckon Brooks looks much more effective when garner is outside. For some reason it didn't click with LL and the left side seems to lack fluency and potency.

Funny you say that, last year many family members(all Manly supporters) made comparisons of Brooks and Garner with Beaver Menzies and Cliffy Lyons. Never watched em play so couldn't really offer an feedback on it though.

It’s a close call. ?

To be fair Cliffy was one of the most penetrating and devious 5/8’s I’ve ever seen. Loved watching him play, holding the ball out front and drifting. He was a special player.
And Beaver was arguably the greatest hole-running second-rower of the modern era.
It’s not comparing apples and oranges, it’s comparing truffles to gruel. ?

Cliff Lyons was a special player and a great five eight especially at club level.
Beaver a great hole runner and try scorer.
Both Grand final winners.
