The much fabled structure

What on earth is it?

Don't get me wrong the team is not choc full of talent. I expected them to be bottom 4 this season so maybe i should be happy with these respectable losses on the scoreboard.

Any team in 2015 with plodders like Lawrence, Halatau, Richards, Galloways plus some kids was never going to set the world alight. I am not expecting them to win the comp or even make the finals.

However what are they working towards? Where is the team work? Where is the combination play between certain players? Where is the improving in any department 10 round in? How exactly is this team building to win a comp in the next 2 or 3 years like the media keeps trotting out?

We looked a hell of a lot more threatening under Potter and that team was often injury ravaged. There can not be any excuses in this regard this year. We have been full strength and looking worse with each passing week.

Taylor talks about getting to certain spots on the field. Maybe that is what it is all about? Getting to certain spots through 5 one out hits up and a bomb. The lack of people pushing up for an offload makes me think offloads are banned. The lack of the use of tedesco for an inside balls makes me think combination play between the halves and fullback is banned. The lack of Farah trying to create makes he think his job is just to catch and pass which he is making heavy whether of.

The team looks devoid of any real threat, guile or combination. Taylor seems to have stripped everything back. Maybe he is working towards some grand plan but it is hard to see what exactly that is other then try and grind and stay in the contest and hope the other teams shoots itself in the foot. It worked against Parramata and Gold Coast so maybe that is what he is working towards. Its not exactly inspiring.

The Knights wre very ordinary today and there to be beaten. However we did not threaten to make a line break unless Moses got some broken play and made something up. We looked dangerous then. Other then that i saw 25 mid field bombs and lots of hit ups with no support play. No real set plays or questions asked.

The effort is there and they look like they are trying. Taylor needs to let them play some football because putting up 12 points every week and hoping to grind games out is not going to work with this team.

With a team already looking out of contention to be playing this brand of football for the rest of the year will make it a very long and dull winter. Farah had his legs crossed and looking at the ground during the half time team talk. Didn't exactly look like he was too worried about it all.

Anyway, bottom line it is an average team with plenty of holes it it but they can play more football then this. Its very predictable and ineffectual.

Our kicks in general play look like no one knows that we are going to kick, so don't bother to chase, or no one actually wants us to chase, or no one is capable of kicking where chasers can get to the ball or all of the above.

Training must be fun, every player getting to practice running one out hit ups. Got me beat, their are no runner even supporting the player making the hit up, so if he flukes it and breaks the line he is on his own.
This team is playing a basic game plan very badly

A brilliant summary. But, how did it get to this? We all hear of the squad "buying into" the Taylor strategy. But WTF is that strategy? Be less woeful than the opposition? It's not clear to me and it doesn't seem to be clear to anyone else, including the players. Today was a disgraceful performance. Bereft of anything that even is in the ballpark of coherent and planned. The Cowboys will win by 50 next week if that effort and approach is repeated.

I don't think we are an average team. I think we look like we have plenty of talent. We have some plodders but we look to have more quality across the park than Newcastle.

I think its obvious who needs to be replaced and its not our forwards. In stating that Taylor needs to get this right or he needs to go. His performance so far is below Potter and considerably so.

The biggest problem is the difference between the majority of the WT's players best and worse is large

They need to massively close this gap

Woods is a good example , his best and worst games have a minimal difference

The problem lies at the feet, or should I say the hands, of the guy with the number 9 on his back. How do you expect halves to be able to do anything when they are getting slow ball a metre behind them every tackle - thats when it actually gets thrown in the air and not on the ground.

The sad reality is that Farah, as much as he tries, just doesn't have good enough service to be a first grade dummy half anymore. His passing this year has been abysmal. Attempts by some on this forum to still compare him favourably to Smith are laughable.

IMO we will not be a competitive team until Robbie retires. I hate saying this because until 2011 he was my favourite player in the game.

When your coach is mediocre, and your players are mediocre, this is what you get.

Richards
Naiqama
Lawrence
Moses
Brooks
Halatau
Sironen
Ava
Lovett

We are carrying 9 mediocre or so players on our team. A couple of them are young, like Sironen, Brooks, Moses so they can get better, but some are what they are.

We need a talent infusion big time. We have 4 legitimate players as of today in Tedesco, Farah, Woods and Taupau. That's really not good enough in today's game. Compare us to the other teams in the league sans Parramatta and it's a laughable comparison.

I watch the game each week expecting the team to do nothing inspiring because it seems to be coached OUT of them.I have only seen one coach i rate lower at the Tigers and that was Jones. It is going to be a long 18 months while he is still here under contract

Sure Robbie is in the twilight, everyone watching that can see it.

However the issue is bigger then that.

I know your a massive fan of the coach so your not going to bag him. However the game plan seems very simplistic and predictable. I can to blame things totally on Farah is deflecting things.

Taylor's game plans are pathetically uninspiring. Five one out hit ups and a midfield bomb.

The plan is what every successful team uses in the game. It doesn't work for us because we have some very dumb footballers in our team.

That being said, I would love to see us use the short side a bit more.

I know its unpopular here but geez I miss Sheens.

.

The teams up the top play some football within the structure.

Look at the Roosters, Dragons, Raiders, Broncos. They ask questions of the defence.

We seem to have gone too far the other way. No point completing 90% of sets if you don't ask any questions.

We don't even look like making a break, putting in a offload or combination play.

The best sides find the balance between football and power/pace combination play. Taylor and the team seem miles off this. I would say the blame is shared, a lack of talent plus a lack of tactical nous at this stage.

The game plan has been working. We have been in every game apart from the Roosters. But with the slowest ruck in the game its very hard to take advantage when we get to the opposition line.

I am a Taylor fan. There are some things we have been doing that I don't agree with. We need to run some outside in lines. Since Sheens left we only seem to run inside out. We need to use the shortside more.

All that being said, it doesn't matter who our coach is when our the service from dummy half is so poor.

Said this for a while. Watching the 20s or even schoolboy footy is more entertaining and inspiring than this mob. The one out game plan is pathetic and the bomb after every set is so predictable. JTs "structure" shows no signs of improving we are going backwards in a hurry. Potter for all the injuries and behind the scenes turmoil was able to be a lot more effective and entertaining.

We need to let the kids play whT is infront of them. Deadset stop handcuffing the kids and try to play off the cuff. Guaranteed we'll be better for it, going one out with other teams won't end well bring back the old tigers, spreading the ball and trying to do something in our own half.

Gee whiz that is deflecting the blame for mine. Farah has been way below his best but the limited football we are playing across the board is very much an issue for mine.

I must be watching a different game plan to the one your watching cause for me it is not working. You think it is working because we are competitive on the scoreboard. Maybe you are right. Maybe I should adapt that attitude that were happy with competitive losses.

Where is the link up play between Brooks and Tedesco? No offloads at all, so no second phase. Midfield bombs with no pressure. If this is the game plan that is going to win us a comp or even win half our games ill be surprised.

Defence has improved but with the football we look close to the most insipid team in the comp, and that is with a full strength spine that is rated with plenty of promise.

If our execution is poor, our players make mistakes mid game and in general our structure is poor during the games, I'm frustrated and the coaches should be doing better but we can't be perfect. We certainly should be a lot better, but it isn't the easiest thing to get to work.

What absolutely blows my mind though is the scrum with Tedesco packing in at lock to pick the ball up. Where is the logic in this? A chance for a set play with 5 or 6 defenders in 2/3rds of the field and our fastest and most dangerous player is taken out of it, and not only that, but he gives the ball to Lawrence/Richards, probably our two least threatening players to cart it up for like 5m before succumbing meekly. This is truly beyond me and more than anything else shows a complete lack of thinking behind what we're doing.

Perhaps it is but I still see it as very early. In our first year with Potter we were far worse than this. Some have very short memories. I expected these type of performances in the first half of the year. I can handle this.

What I can't handle is our highest paid player no longer having the basic skills required for his position and otherwise having little or no influence on the game.

JT could you introduce some spark to the structure next week please. We have been plodding along with the structure for 10 rounds now won some games got smashed in games and lost games that we could have won had there been just a little bit of attacking spark allowed for eg today. Sick of feeling like I am supporting the bridesmaids playing the part of second best to carry out the structure but never being good enough to accept the proposal when it comes.

Do you think he has just changes his style this year?
Thats why he has an attitude and has backed off, some of you are hopeless at reading body language
