The National Anthem

@Dan_Blanco I went to school with some indigenous fellas and the amount of times I heard the statement, "Is it cos I'm black?" was through the roof.

These guys were not black, skin wise at least... light brown maybe... but no disrespect to any indigenous people but you are not African American.

Haven’t followed the story closely, but apologies if it only arose from an answer to a question. Obviously not an issue then. Why were they asked this question though? What kind of question is that, if asked with no context?

It was asked because this issue arose again during the All Stars game with some players not signing the anthem!

"singing toorala ohrala atatee..."
I'm bound for Botany Bay..."

I use to sing along as a young man until I understood the words of the song.

@cochise things could be a lot worse.
If Japan invaded instead - there might not be an Aboriginal today.

So that makes their situation all good then?

Well poor question then, obviously trying to create drama, as it has, and now it’s escalated into a movement.

@Kev How about the life expectancy gap, levels of education, over representation in the prison system, higher infant mortality rates, higher suicide rates just to name a few?

Sing it .....don't sing it , last time I checked we live in a democracy

I love our national anthem ...but I'm not an Indigenous Australian either

My son is doing Year 10 history and asked Mrs and I which of the 4 decisions influenced Indigenous Australians the most ...Mrs scoffed and said "what's Wave Hill " and I said he better choose it seeing either of them had ever heard of it

She and he were astonished ....only reason I knew anything was because I love Paul Kelly and read a story about the song "From little things big things grow "

Mabo might get recognition as it should .....Wave Hill deserves it all imo

@Kev No but its an opportunity for them to highlight the issues that are almost totally ignored by a lot of people and a chance to start a discussion about many issues to indigenous Australians.

I came back to say I disagree...
+60,000 thousand year old culture -
documented. There was no Japan.
Thats a colonialist argument.

No bloke named 'Steve Mcdonald'
Would save me from speaking
Japanese either, he'd be rolling
in his grave I can assure you. 😂

Not an expert on the topic but I don't have an issue if someone chooses not to sing the anthem, this isn't North Korea.

A serious conversation needs to happen as if there is a issue there it should be sorted out. I see why it does frustrate people as it seems like a huge distraction from something we all love.

Personally I would like something similar to what was sung in our indigenous 2018 game against the Cowboys it was done similar to the NZ anthem.

@Dan_Blanco is that because of our profound ignorance or just our perceived racism? You are aware that whites and blacks live together in communities all over the country arent you?
