The outside backs defense

I vowed not to make a thread as this loss stung too much, but it is too obvious at this point.

Todd Payten is a rookie coach, yet was able to win a game with the simplest game plan: target their outside men who jam and get lost. They neither come in fast enough, nor stay back at least 4-8 times a game. There are 3-4 tries there. And Payten won.

Brown is an ordinary coach, but he put in a ball playing FB specifically for the **exact same game plan**.

And he won.

This has been going on for years. Yet no adjustments.

It just defies belief.

Every team structures their game plan around this when playing us, I honestly don't know why nothing is done about it week on week

Actually I do, we have an incompetent coach who chooses to select soft edges week after week

We are USELESS without the ball. All it takes is a two pass shift from the middle and the opposing team is through

We have conceded at least 8 tries this year (not to mention prior years) due to this weakness.

Here's a memo to our team, wanna win games? Fix this!

It has been so long mate that it really does defy belief at this point. And, like you said, all teams plan it. They must see the team sheet each Tuesday and jump for joy.

Nofa has been caught in no man's land ....not coming in quick enough / not staying back....literally dozens of times in his career. Honestly, when they posted all that NOFA 150 stuff this week, I thought they meant the amount of tries he had conceded...

Scary thing is, Talau makes Nofa look like a defensive guru.

What I can't believe is that the coaching staff can't see how easily our outside backs have been exploited. We all see it and have done so for years. At this stage I would be happy if they just tried something different - the jamming in has cost us too many games. Like most people here, I think that as soon as the opposition spread the ball wide we are in deep trouble. I expect the opposition to score.

Please please please…. can someone explain why we continue with the jamming in defensive plan. Is it coached or do the individual edge players not trust their inside men!

Call me stupid but why don’t our edge defenders simply man up even to the point of having our winger no more than 2m inside his opponent winger (not 5m). I just don’t get it. They think they jam in to prevent a try but constantly game after game let in a try. It’s bloody dumb dumb dumb!

What is the definition of INSANITY people!!!!!

In saying that about the Cowboys and Warriors and their game plan against us. I'm yet to see any variation in our game plan against other teams. Just the same old one out for 4 tackles then a kick they hope to score from.

And absolutely every team knows it.

Occasionally he gets it right...but he gets it badly wrong 3-4 times a game, sometimes way more. You just can't hand the opp two tries a game. We, literally, gift them tries.

You can't carry two outside backs who are poor defenders. Even one will have you exposed.

Talau, Nofo & BJ are all poor defenders. That is 3 poor defenders. All good runners of the footy when we have the ball.

We should try and sign that Momirovski bloke from Penrith. He looks O.K.

Then why do management keep extending the loser ?
I want him gone !
