This will no doubt turn into another discussion about the coach but it would be good to focus on the players and what we have made of their season so far.

My main concern with the playing squad isnt a talent issue its that i cant think of one player who has improved or gone to another level this year.

Last year we had a few players emerge and with natural development became better players as the season wore on. Some of them improving under very trying circumstances as part of injury ravaged line ups.

This year there have been glimpses of improvement from the likes of Sirro, Sue, Ava but it has been inconsistent. The closest i can come to a player that has improved this year is Brooks. More a natural age type of improvement rather than anyone showing or teaching him anything.

Ive never seen a year like it.

I think Moses and Brooks look okay. Lawrence performed well last night.

Overall though its been a really bad season and no players have really stepped up.

i still like brookes although he hasnt lived up to his rookie of the year tag form two years ago.
im glad rowdy has found the second row.

tedesco has come along and i would regard him as our most dangerous and consistent performer.its good his body has responded well after tough injuries.

Last night's squad was very inexperienced….particularly our edge. The club has a strategy to build a squad around a core ground of players in their early 20's. The squad lacks depth particularly in the centres and backrow (the positions where we are getting our injuries). Clearly we are playing some players who are not ready for NRL and this is hurting the team. But the success of our strategy is based on giving these younger players experience ahead of their time, there is no turning back.

Any improvement - and I agree with most of what has been said - has unfortunately been minimal. But I guess baby steps are better than none at all.

After last night I am starting to be impressed with Lawrence. I still feel that he owes us about a season or more of great games but he is going well in the back row for having little time there so far. His track record makes me hesitant to be impressed though, he must keep it happening for it to be a proper improvement.

I think against the Cowboys esp and this year in general Ava has been the biggest improvement and by the end of the season looking back you might have a different opinion. Hope he sticks around.

yep last year we had austin, moses, patty and farah win us a couple of games single handedly almost. we don't seem to have any matchwinners atm.

brooks is sort of disappointing to me- you can see he's got potential, but his kicking game is that of just a bomb, no short kicking at the opp 20, no finding space, no 40/20 attempts even.. it's frustrating coz i feel like he can do it but he's just taking the SAFEST option each time.

I'm hoping we can line up like this in a couple of weeks time.

1\. James Tedesco
2\. Kevin Naiqama
3\. David Nofoaluma
4\. Tim Simona
5\. Pat Richards
6\. Mitchell Moses
7\. Luke Brooks
8\. Aaron Woods (capt.)
9\. Robbie Farah
10\. Matt Lodge
11\. Chris Lawrence
12\. Curtis Sironen
13\. Martin Taupau

Interchange:
14\. Ava Seumanufagai
15\. Keith Galloway
16\. Sausau Sue
17\. Manaia Cherrington

Brooks never was any good and he hasn't improved from there imo, another talked up overrated junior!
We better be on the lookout for a halfback as well as centres and back rowers cause we're wasting our time with him, lets not wait 3 or 4 years until we realise it like we did with Benji.
The Titans started with a makeshift hooker, then lost their halfback (who has only played a handful of nrl games and is already showing more than brooks) early and they still outplayed us in attack, how poor are our halves seriously? How do you think we would go if Brooks went down early in a game, especially during an away game? We're hopeless with him on the park. We're in big trouble, the next 4 weeks will sort out this comp and the cream will begin to rise, we've already started acting like sediment, lookout Manly here we come.

Agree. I too find Brooks lacking as a halfback at this stage. Where's his kicking game? Apart from the occasional grubber and the boring high kick, there doesn't seem to be anything else.
He's passing game needs a lot of work too. He tends to take the wrong option at crucial times in attack also. I like the young man, but i feel he needs to do extras before and after training to improve his game. Is JT helping him or stifling him ? He's a good kid and i hope he's given the help he needs, to improve his game.

Centre, backrow and bench are a massive issue for us atm.

this

we need a decent centre, at least another 2nd rower who can run good lines and a another prop

trouble is, given the cap problems, I can't see anything happening this year nor next

I think Woods has improved enormously. Really good last year, fantastic this year.

Have to agree he has gone from being rep quality to be the best prop in the game imo

I agree that he looks a little lazy on occasion, but that try was all Sue for mine. He was terrible, basically straight behind the markers rather than at least a few metres to the right, which was more than the two he needed to get there to shut it down

Mate that was mostly Jesse Sue's fault that one. Sezer stepped back inside and Sue was not in position. Woods was the outside defender.

Woods doesn't have a great technique; he doesn't go low, he mostly wraps and wrestles. But does he miss many tackles?

Something just isnt right when the players at this club arent improving but the ones we let go are playing well in good teams or on the verge of Origin selection.

Its just not good enough, the fans deserve better.
