The ''re-buiding phase''

i for one am sick of the re building crap and how JT keeps telling every one we our working on the defence stage. ..hope it changes or will we have to wait for the next re building stage.

I don't get it. How could you be sick of it when its been 9 rounds of football?

How long has JT been head coach?
How long has Marino Go been with the tigers?
How long have Brooks/Moses/Lovett/Santi etc played first grade?
How long have other coaching staff been around?

There have been wholesale changes made at the end of last season.

2005-2014 was never building or re building.

So from 2005-2014,a ten year period, for this club to wake up and realise that it is a business after wasting numerous amounts of dollars on overrated and over paid passengers, now the penny has dropped that this rabble needed change..so we invest in the young players, buy a new coach, put Marina Go in as chair and install top S&C staff..the point I'm making is "don't you think we should have been building "on our great premiership win and we would be in a far better position than we are now?..the way it is going nobody knows for sure what we will end up with at the moment, untried kids in their first full NRL season and no quality experienced players to fall back on…the one thing I will say is WE did need change, however this change works out is yet to be seen, investment in the juniors is very good if you have a balance of top NRL experienced players to compliment them,we have some but not enough depth...

And who is to say that these "superstar kids will stay"...after all money speaks all languages, maybe they might not be what we expect them to be as players...

We can speculate all day long, and use examples of the failures, but for every failure there is a kid that has succeeded.

Can't agree with that. I think there are many, many more kids that fail than succeed. I think the Austin case is one whereby it was very obvious that he was a beauty in the here and now, but the club forsake that for what might be in the future so long as the stars align the way they hope they do. I don't think it was the right decision, but plenty do. I wish we still had Austin, and I wish he was our 6.
I don't really have a problem with the term re-building either, but given it's been 10 years since we won a premiership, maybe it should be just called a building phase. The rubble has piled too far and wide since 05.

Yes but the point with Austin is -he was identified at Penrith as a possible star but he didnt rise to expectation there, so they let him go prematurely for next to nothing. We had already invested in Brooks and Moses when we signed Austin. The point I was trying to make that the talent does not just click into gear it takes time and Austin himself is a perfect example of that.

Can't disagree with that.

But who's to say the kids won't stay?

Absolutely they may stay, however we have no money and will we when it comes to renewing them..it's all in the future,we can only see how it pans out…

Austin wanted to leave. HE chose to go to Canberra with a year left on his contract with Wests Tigers rather than stay and fight for the number 6 jumper.
Don't get me wrong, personally i would have declined his request for a release if I was one of the 'egotitstical admin' as i agree Austin would have been the better 5/8 option for the team THIS season. But the reason Austin is gone is because he wanted to go.

Yep, he chose to go, but he won the fight for the 6\. There was nothing more he had to prove. I don't think I've ever before seen someone perform as he did and go unrewarded for his efforts. To be honest, same goes for Mick Potter.

Didn't we offer Austin a cheap contract only for him to be given considerably more by Canberra? Where were we supposed to get the money to pay Austin for this season from?

My guess is Austins money was most likely then used to get Naqiama

2006-12 was not a rebuilding phase nor should it have been. 2003-2004 were the rebuilding years for the success in 2005 and for what should have followed from 2006-2012\. We had squads that were the perfect mix of experience and youth throughout those years and really should have capitalised on the Farah/Marshall era with another premiership or two.

We failed miserably from 2006-2009 and really should've won a grand-final in either 2010 or 2011.

Those were not legitimate rebuilding years no matter who said what, they were just excuses to justify our failures.

The last 2-3 years have been legitimate rebuilding years IMO.

We have blooded so many youthful players over that period who even now are still babies and finding their feet. On average we have the youngest team with an average of just 22 which is extraordinarily young.

This time next year they should be comfortable in FG if they are good enough and that is when I will start expecting consistent performances over the 80 minutes week-to-week.

We took a gamble when Potter was brought in and decided on the youth policy, to me that is when the "re-building" phase begun; with players like Heightnon, Beau, Marshall, Utai, Lote and all the deadwood moving on in place of all these inexperienced juniors at once. That is when the re-building phase started.

So if we include this year, that's 3 years of rebuilding, putting us in a good position to make the finals consistently from 2016 onwards and maybe we'll see a few premierships in 2017-2020.

We are only so impatient now because we expected so much more from 2006-2012\. Had we of won a grand final or two in those years, then we would be giving the current squad the time they deserve.

Don't know. If that's the case, then it's a bloody mess isn't it? I hope the "re-building" includes the demolition of a certain CEO.

He was contracted to West Tigers for 2015 for peanuts. We didn't have to find any more money.

Naiqama is massively overrated by most on this forum. That's another story altogether…

The title of this thread should be " the re-salary Cap phase ".

As for this main reason I believe we are paying the price for Our past poor Management IMO

Probably, but the reality will be it will just be another average we've beaten. Every team so far we've beaten have been average.

GNR, heading into this season could you honestly say that you were confident we would beat a Roosters or Souths ?

The fact that we are actually beating the teams we are expected to beat is an achievement in itself for the Tigers.

I can honestly say we have only lost one game that i expected us to win and that was against the Raiders.

GNR,I think many are of the same opinion as you,I will say on the Potter issue,if all being fair and right and he was afforded the luxuries as JT has been given,we would be in a good position now…how so do you ask..well Potter had to blood the young guys sooner because of a horrendous injury toll,he had the team playing to his "structure" as was proven when we beat,Souths,Dogs and Manly the big guns of the comp at the time..Because certain players had their noses out of joint because they couldn't dominate what goes on in the team, then everything fell apart, surely you know who I'm talking about GNR...Potter was starting to lay the platform for a very competitive team after his injured FG players returned he would of had something to work with...Now is the time for JT to show all of us how good this team will be and let them play what they are so highly paid to do"play football"..if the structure isn't working,re shape it,I myself do allow for things to take time, however not forever,I don't want instant success, but I would like consistency..win,lose or draw eg,some of the players one week play very well, the next couple of games you wonder where they are,if they turned up every week and had a good crack,so be it I'm happy, lacklustre performances at this level don't go unpunished as has been proven many times at this club......

Do they need a great coach or do they need a good psychologist...I don't know, whatever eventuates I certainly hope that when we complete this "rebuilding" I certainly hope they have a very solid foundation..if we are depending on our junior base which is pretty good, then hopefully we can keep them and not hone their skills for others to poach them after we have developed them......just my opinion GNR,Iam very passionate about the WTs and more than anything I hate others taking my team for easybeats or for granted, not only does it hurt,it also angers me..sorry it's just me .....

It's good you don't bottle things up TT. It's great having this forum to vent on. And i agree with most of your post.

Call it what you want. If things continue the way they are, in two years no one will be writing this thread. We'll be talking about finals footy and how to retain as many of our emerging stars as possible.

It sure is Krayola… A verrrrrry long time, before the team can make amends. Can't wait. :supporter:
