The Run Home

Thing is, we're not going to go from _Avoided Spoon On F/A Again_ to _Classy Top 4 Side_ in one jump. We need a year or two of _Unconvincing 7th Place_ and _Eliminated First Week_ in between.

Wow, one iffy win at home, against a team that is the worst in the comp, absolutely thrashed in the previous three weeks, and some of you have us making the 8.

Friday will be a perfect example of what we are about, we'll go to Brisbane, play an under-men team, put a reasonable fight, for the first 20 and the last 20, end up losing by 10 or so, and our management will classify it as a good performance, and spew out some crap like, we're heading in the right direction.

The club doesn't expect more from the playing and coaching group.

btw, we are no chance of making the 8, even with Parra being docked, they'll probably pass us again during the year.

Wow, hope the team are more positive than you in each of the following weeks. If not, we may as well forfeit the rest of the games and all go on holidays.

Why not? It gives the boys something to play for. There are other teams on 8-10 points who have been just as inconsistent as us, like Souths, St George or New Zealand One or two of them will fall over the line, so why not the Tigers?

…pretty obvious no one is basing it on performance.

Look at the table. It's merely a suggestion of no matter how bad we have been, we're not as far from the 8 in terms of points as the quality of our performances.

I'm not basing it on one performance, but all of them, i've actually been to every home game and a few of the away.

And, to the previous posters, i'm not saying we should just give up or not turn up or anything else like that.

i'm saying, reality check!, and the club doesn't expect more, they will be happy if we miss the 8 but put in good perceived performances, so that is what we'll get.

I don't think that is right - the club is expecting more - they should be looking at top four and be super positive, if they do that, get a little luck and they may scrap into the eight.

Be a bit negative and aim for the eight and you would be a good chance to miss out altogether.

Doesn't hurt to be positive - whether one should be happy on missing out on the eight or four or whatever depends on the effort put in, original expectations, injuries and the roster.

Negativity gets you nowhere, has no expectations and is a waste of time.

i always say, Dont build your success on someone elses failure .

We shouldnt been dreaming of parra losing points so we are a chance of making the 8
Even though i like the idea …

I agree but this is not based on a failure, this is based on cheating pure and simple.
In my view, eels got off lightly. They should have been awarded the 2016 spoon right off the bat. Cap cheating makes a mockery of this competition.

Totally agree, very light punishment thus far

Lose all points.
And take 16th spot for 2016

If we win the next 3 to make it 4 in a row and then have a bye - 10 points in succession, this place will lose all control. :righton: There might even be predictions of a dynasty upon the doorstep. :master: That is, until we lose against Melbourne, Penrith and the Dogs. :unamused: Then it's all the coaches fault again.

That's how us tigers fans roll generally speaking :supporter:

haha dont you know this forum has a memory of exactly 1 week??

the punishment makes sense to me. theyre under the cap now - so they should be allowed to play for points

add in the million dollar fine they copped, its a reasonable punishment.

its not systemic rorting like the storm. its more just stupidity, negligence and mismanagement of TPAs (perfectly legal if done correctly)

The NRL would have been under massive pressure to keep Parra competitive for 2016\. The broadcasters needed meaningful matches in order to generate ratings. Although I agree it should have been instant spoon and your cap for the next year reduced by 1/2 million

The way the table is now, all it takes is three consecutive wins from here to solidify your spot.

Can we do it? Absolutely not. But 2012 happened, when we were battling away at the top 8, somehow to finish 4th.

We didn't make the 8 in 2012 - Let alone the top 4…

sorry my memory is a bit fuzzy these last few years have been a blur

I'll take a Bradbury …over no finals...

That mentality is my problem with this club. As long as we keep up appearances then we can turn a blind eye to what is really going on. I'm happy to say those who think this way are on the minority now. It's taken a while but people have opened their eyes and have started demanding answers.

This club are perennial under-delivers and if we fluke a top 8 finish this year then nothing will change. We'll re-sign Broses, applaud Taylor and his staff, and pat ourselves on the back even though the entire NRL community laughs at us.

There is something seriously wrong with you.

On the other hand, some of us watch the games and can see where the team is at. If we win three in a row from here one of two things has happened:
1) From somewhere, they have found some improvement. Maybe everything the halves throw starts going to hand or something.
2) We have run into an unprecedented line of teams on bad days.

We've won two out of the last three and I don't think anyone who watched the games dispassionately could say that getting up over a Souths outfit that didn't start playing for 20 minutes, getting battered by an ok Dogs side and then gritting out a stinker over the NSWCupstle Knights gives any evidence at all that the 2016 Tigers aren't a bottom four side.

If the side suddenly starts playing much better and consistently produces results I will, indeed, be impressed (and even a little excited). If it carries on being garbage but hits a few teams on down weeks I will not. It's a bit harsh to have a crack at other fans for desperately wanting to see their team play well.

The Tigers need to be attracting good players and sponsors. Finals appearances go a long way there, as do games on CH9.. After the '05 season our sponsor went from JFTA petrochemical to Proton. Our run in 2010-2011 locked up Hyundai We need multinationals with big advertising budgets, not local restaurants, ambulance chasing lawyers and rubbish removal contractors.

The sponsors don't care how we get to the finals, they just want their name on screen in big matches and on free to air TV. A team that's never there in september and plays on FOX at 1pm is marketing poison.

So if we, as you say, hit a few teams on down weeks, I'll be absolutely thrilled if we make the 8\. I don't care if it takes a few scrappy golden point wins and a few contentious bunker calls that go our way, we just need to get there. It's essential for our team's development.
