The silver lining

2013 so far has bought with it another wretched run with injury to this point. In particular the loss of Galloway, Koroibete and now Marshall (pending results). Further hits to our front row stocks have also been a big issue. However there is a silver lining to this I believe. That is the youth that is getting game time now. Due to a changing on the guard, so to speak, Koroibete was already seen as our leading winger. But due to injuries we've been able to give considerable experience to Buchanan (who's handled it great!).

Tedesco, Miller and Seumanufagai have also gotten some experience and will continue to do so. Akouala followed likewise on Monday night. I guess it depends on which way you view the glass as, half full, or half empty, but for me anyways that is the silver lining. Our younger guys are now getting exposure and a chance to develop into first graders and in the case of Koro, Teddy, Buchanan in particular, this early exposure will serve us well in the long run as they appear to be a cut above the other fringe players, with the exception of Sironen and Brooks.

As long as we have them locked into contracts before they draw interest I am all for it

This is why coaches dont make too many changes just of their own volition…just for the hell of it when a player has a poor game or two....theres always events like injury suspension and rep duties that force a coaches hand

Seeing as we had such a successful year in all junior grades last year, I'm happy for Potter to spend 2013 testing out the talent from within. I believe you always need to give a new coach at least two seasons to get the squad he wants. In 2014 I hope to see some of these guys recognised as solid first graders, as well as some astute purchases from other clubs - no more shopping in the bargains bin at the Panthers

Makes you wonder, if we hadn't had any injuries what our 17-man team would look like. We could have easily lost to Storm on Monday night, looked to be even bigger fools against Manly. Yet because we have injuries we generally use it as an excuse, but who's to say without any injuries we would have flown better?

Exactley. Make sure they are locked away on contracts otherwise we put all the hard work into these guys and then other teams cherry pick the best with big money offers. If a guy thinks he has 4-5 guys ahead of him, he will leave the club and take a chance at another e.g Buchanen. We really need to work out whos important to sign, whos a maybe, who we'd like them to stay, but if they go they go. Sort that out now before to much exposure of them in 1st grade.

Because additions like Koroibete and Galloway who are proven assets to our team have a high probability of making 100m and probably a try or linebreak.

Yeah lots of positives to come out of this for the future

I wonder what would happen if we won all three games whilst Benji was away ??

Ha, wouldn't that be cool. He would definatley come back hungry if Potter said "Sorry Benji, this team is working really well, how about you play reggies this week and we'll see how we go." He would either chuck a diva fit or come back smoking hot to prove its his spot. Win win either way.

Now that Anasta is here, this is very much a possibility.

Yes, you make a fair point - they are proven assets, but generally 9 times/10 one player doesn't make much a difference if the whole team isn't performing, however most times Robbie Farah and Woods have excellent games if the rest of the team aren't but even with those excellent games we are unable to secure a victory, cause 1 or 2 men can't carry a whole team of liabilities.

Sad but true.

True, true. I can easily count the players on one hand in the Tigers who would be making a massive difference injured or playing if the team is not performing. However, that's only happened once this season in my opinion. Having Koro in that Manly game would have been amazing as we lacked finishing power and that desire to get over the line in the first 40min. Perhaps we were hesitant with the wet ball? And galloway would have been extremely useful to give the other forwards a break and help make very good metres to compensate for the penalties etc.

I'm almost certain the score would have been 20-6 or 20-10 with those to in the squad that night. Not enough to win it, obviously but enough to make a difference.
