Tatola has turned into a really good prop for the bunnies.
Did souffs sign him whilst Madge was still coach or was it during the transition to Seibold?

Madge had left by then, Siebold picked him up on a train and trial contract in early 2018.

OOF...

Now that I remember there was an interesting read in the Herald I think a year or so ago about Tevita.

After he had been cut by us at seasons end 2017 and had no club so he started concreting over the summer for his uncle.
As you can imagine long days concreting out west over summer made him realise he probably wasn't training and working on his game to the level he could have and made him determined to work harder as it was probably his last shot. Souths were the only ones I think to offer him the trial contact after applying to clubs and the rest fell into place and had a full contract in a month or so.

Good on him. Sounds like a little perspective showed him what needed to be done.

Bad form from our club though. A junior representative player shown the door only to have another club develop him into a solid 1st grader.

But that dose of real life is what changed his attitude. without getting the archer from WTs he would not have upped his attitude. We can't keep people because of there potental they also need the right attitude.

It's telling that only a few months after getting the punt from us his attitude was better and another club saw enough to warrant a contract.

He obviously wasn't happy at the Tigers for some reason. And that's 100% on us because he turned into a real good player.

Disagree. You can’t blame our club for a player’s poor attitude. I’d say he had a lightbulb moment whilst concreting.

In saying that, a few of our blokes might benefit from a months hard labour. Anyone renovating during the semis this year?

Why do people keep using Ponga as a recruitment example? I believe he is a poor example. This guy is a rocks and diamonds player. If he was playing for the Weststigers? People would be complaining we’re not getting value for money, which would be a fair call. He is no Slater, Teddy or Turbo. However, receiving excellent money for his age & experience. Credit for him playing NRL though. Go Weststigers!

We have our own story with outstanding fullbacks. The Club had no problems producing them but in the past there have been very real issues concerning those the Club put its faith in to come up with the correct retention decisions.

The elephant in the room is Papenhuyzen as his star continues to rise and it is likely he is SOO bound this year. Imo, he is Slater like but faster and an affable character to boot. WTs needs to own this retention disaster to learn and move ahead. We wouldn't have been in a position to have to recruit if we'd had the right people making the correct retention decisions at the time. I'm glad Hartigan is at the Club to guide our recruitment and retention decisions.

15 clubs knocked back the chance to sign him around 18 months ago. The Storm got lucky.

I wonder does the fact that Papanhayzen from his own mouth states the the Storm was his Club of choice ever come into calculations..

And that's the narrative which will keep us at the bottom. He was our junior, we supposedly knew him and failed.

Would Pap be as good as he is if he never left Tigers? I do wonder.

This inferiority mindset is a concern, Where does it come from?

I think we had coaches like JT and Storm had Bellamy and a good team of assistants and professionalism. It's fair enough to think players would be better off in the Storm system than where we have been since Sheens. Hopefully it's different now under Madge and his team he is forming 👍👌

I guess so did Melbourne considering he was 3rd in line when Slater retired. Rewrite history all you like.

I agree but we have brought through to grade some very good players. And the Papenhuyzen injury issue, think about Tedesco and his run of serious knee injuries. Why the difference in treatment?

Because the club was invested in Teddy, same can't be said for paps

So the Club couldn't manage the two or, are you suggesting the Club knew Papenhuyzen was a genuine NRL and higher player at that time?

Storm were trying to offload Paps at the start of last season.
They didn’t realise how good he was going to turn out.
