The WTs core....

Well forumers, after another loss that I think should have been a win,I have sat down and read many posts and articles regarding the WTs…
I can clearly see that a lot of people are unhappy with the way our great team is going...
A couple of wins and some not so popular losses, the Raiders game for one comes to mind..
After much consideration and thought and also of having played the game for years at a reasonable level,I can see the frustration that everyone feels...Lets consider a couple of things firstly..JT has been employed to coach this team his way,his structure,he is given much lattitude and whatever he needs to get results...The core of our team is made up of highly reputed young talent and highly regarded experienced players, some of the highest level..Given the younger ones are learning all about the NRL game and the others having played several years in the nrl game,we can reasonably say we have a volatile mix within our ranks ready to explode..I did say I played for years and the one thing that is tough is when your used to playing a certain way as a team and then you must make adjustments to that certain way of playing to accomodate new players,it is not that easy and takes time for them to get used to your moves and style of play..some adjust easily some not so easily...

I can tell you first hand that when you put on a play or move and a new team player doesn't get it right through nerves, frustration or whatever it can knock the wind out of your sails and yet you really can't chastise the young bloke,he is still learning..this is what I really think this year is all about, they are going to have games of brilliance and games of sorrow and believe me it does really hurt when you try your guts out and have to write the loss off as a learning curve..

Indeed the forumers that have called for heads to be removed are truly speaking from the heart...in reality we are not in any position this year to bolster the ranks or introduce younger replacements,we must for our own good support this "new age WTs " fully, win lose or draw...I myself have been harsh at times and havnt really taken the time to look back and see how difficult it was for me with new and younger players,I jumped the gun and thought these are our future they have talent to burn, firstly it needs to be harnessed and the rough edges knocked off before the gem starts shining...this is the faze we are in...

We must not start depleting as a fan base as new as this "structure" is to us we must be patient and let it unfold, and don't worry it hurts me just as much as it hurts everyone else..

I'm going to the game on Saturday, win lose or draw I will wait and see what eventuates out of the next faze of the structure...hopefully we will cut the errors and come up with some exciting plays...cheers and good luck WESTS TIGERS......

Good post TT. I hope the boys defend well, cut out their errors, play with excitement and heart and get that elusive win we've all been craving for. Let's hope a big crowd turns up to support the team on Saturday. Enjoy the day TT. I would love to be there too, cheering them on, but unfortunately i have to work.

Id love to dig this post up in 2017 when we finish 15th for the 3rd year in a row

You can. Just make sure you do the same if we're in the top 4

If JT lets these young guys play a little of what's infront of them and doesnt restrict them to much once they have got the structure right and can read and play out what JT is teaching them, then I think we will be back to the team of exciting expansive football where we could put on spectacular tries and the opposition were left standing in our wake..

These young guns have to learn the key fundamentals of the NRL game and JT has to eventually let them play to their potential and ability….I think some of us will be happy once it sinks in ....it is coming trust me...lets have faith,we have nothing to lose only some games as long as they learn from the losses and become far better players for it...

In reality we aint going to win the comp this year. Treat 2015 like 2004…..its all experience.....we have the core of a successful long-term team here. The youngest squad in the comp has been competitive every week. Look at Newcastle....where are they going with that squad.....I know where we are going.

You sound like you're looking forward to it.

You must be a new supporter of the Wests TIgers, all Ill say to you is dont get your hopes up. We might have a year sometime in the next 5 where we will win more then we loose. Just be aware we also may not. Welcome aboard.

I was 8 years old when Alan Jones got the coaching gig at Balmain, and I sat on the hill at every Leichardt game with my dad through that ugly '91-92 period. Been a Tigers supporter ever since and I still hope to win every week.

Welcome back to the bright side TT, good to see your glass half full again.

Thanks FG,I have had to think things out a bit,and it's no good always being negative and wanting everything to fall into place yesterday so to speak…..frustration and expectation will always accompany a young learning team,as Russ said once WE must be patient and let things happen, this is that particular year...cheers mate....

Best post you have ever had TT - really positive, reeking of patience and tolerance.

I'm with you "rocks and diamonds" - our part is easy.

Every loss makes the wins so much sweeter.

Go you Mighty Tigers!!!!!!

Many of us have been here for decades, both our prior incarnations had many many dark periods, moreso than good times.
People equate criticism to giving up, quitting, walking away….I find the younger supporters see themselves as positive and real supporters, and see critics as negative....even when the team is negative, playing like busteds and crap...they still need to hoot and holler....anyway good OP...yes we may get fed up, we tire of mediocrity...but real fans only have one team, they dont go anywhere, and they also dont feel a need to promote their support or criticise others

Doesn't mean that you don't get disillusioned at times. As all the old Wests and Balmain fans know, year after year of poor finishes gets hard to stomach, particularly now where the players get paid very good money to run around. It was easier to deal with before, the players of a bygone era played for pride in the jersey and you knew that you were getting 110% out of them no matter how bad the team was and that's all you could ask of them. It's hard to watch players now on good money, which is their professional career, give up when the game gets away from them.

People that judge a young player's ability based purely upon their ability to completely change their style of play in the space of 6 months have rocks in their heads. If they were playing their normal game their progress could be compared much clearer. They're not and need to be judged accordingly.
