The year in review

A bad year everyone bar Tedesco regressed.
The one positive was Taylor stuck with Brooks and Moses all year however, with his game plans probably has hurt their confidence.

Does anyone have our for and against outcome over the past 5 years? These are the figures I am interested in. We only lost heavily to the top teams in the comp, and even then
"heavily" is not defined as it has been in earlier seasons.

We win a couple of golden point games, and don't lose twice to the wooden spooners and we are on the edge of the 8\. We are second last, but there are positives there. I just hope we can continue to improve even after we let more experience go this off season.

Moses progressed as did Brooks, 16 try assists to Brooksy, only two behind the 10 million dollar man.

i dont think there's been a year where i didnt predict a top 8 for us lol

now im truly over it- thinking of following union now. come pre season, we'll hear more bs about "i've had an injury free pre season, i feel the best i had 5 years ago, we're all confident bla bla bla"

over it all now. gonna actually try and have no expectations this year. might even put a tenner on the wooden spoon for us next year.

S & C has improved (or we were luckier) this year, probably a combination of both.
Woods, Tedesco and Seumanufagai had much better year and were consistently among our best players.
Lawrence was awful at center, when moved to 2nd row he contributed much much more.
Halatau had much better year, in this form he deserves another year.
While they had a lot ups and downs Brooks, Moses had solid year, they have to improve their defense. Cherrington was a breath of fresh air, lifting up the team in attack with his fast ball distribution.
Taupau, Sironen and Sue had solid year, they have to be more consistent.
Simona and Nofoaluma were injured for most of the season, we need them to on the field as they are (with Tedesco) our major attacking players.
Naiqama was solid, he will improve in defense as he plays more games with Nofoaluma.
Richards was very good in the first part of the season, but his form and kicking game went down, his luck of speed was evident in attack and defense. His attack has improved when Simona replaced Lawrence at center.
We need to improve our selection as we have better players than Buchannan, Luani and Lovett e.g. Fine, Akauola, Grant, Graham, Felise etc.

Yes our defence has improved

2005 PA - 575
2015 PA - 562

Wow, I wasn't expecting that! So we actually defended better than we did in the year we won the comp yet we came second last. That shows that there have been massive improvements this year. It would appear that JT's desire to hold our attack back has prevented us from climbing the ladder. but in my opinion that is a reasonable sacrifice in the short term.

Points come when Cherrington is on the field so I believe if he spends more time on the field next year then we score more points. The blueprint for success is there but, for once I think I am going to enjoy the cricket season rather than hanging out for the footy to start again.

A really poor year. I think i picked us to run 14th and we couldn't even manage that!

If you had said to most of our fan base in March that Teddy, Moses, Brooks, Woods, Farah etc would be fit for most or all of the season, most would have us pretty close to the Top 8\. Reality was all we were doing from week 10 onwards were scraping away from the Spoon.

Taylor was really poor in his first season. No imagination, terrible tactics, and some really poor handling of situations. The only wrap I will give him is he picked a staff that did a great job with the injuries and conditioning side of things. However to have worse results then ever with a FINALLY healthy roster, well that is horrendous really.

With him at the helm I have really low expectations for next season. Have we hi rock bottom yet? Not quite maybe.

This year again was just not good enough.
Forget about tackling technique, juniors, lack of metre eaters and all that stuff.

What hasn't changed with this team is their 'lack of mettle'.
We have never been able to get into the grind and have a trench mentality. They have always been mentally weak.

Too often we have fallen apart when things seem to go against us.
Too many glass hearts.
Until that changes we what we are.

You cant forget about defense or the lack of technique that goes with it if you want to improve on the lack of mettle

You cannot get into the grind and have a trench mentality when your defense is weak

Mettle, grind, trench warfare, defense…all comes down to attitude

Last couple of seasons we leaked a lot of points up the middle. This year we were soft on the fringes and out on the wings.
If Brooks, Moses, Sirro and whoever our new winger is can tighten up their defense, then we will win games

Very disappointing that we had such an improved season in terms of injuries, but that wasn't reflected in our over all results. Most of the other teams at the bottom of the ladder had very bad runs with injuries - the Panthers, the Titans, the Warriors, the Knights and even Manly.

With relative stability in team selections week after week, we should have been able to build and improve in other ways, but we didn't really. Defense remains a big issue and even our attack often looked clueless. Turning Robbie away is just plain stupid and shows Taylor's weakness as a manager of people.

for 2016, would be great to see it in 400's.
or just over 500's. broken down thats roughly 3 points less per game than in 2015..
its the one handed shirt grabs that makes me want to do this :brick:, but I suppose I'm :deadhorse:

In spite of all the changes, fanfare, hoopla and that P word (potential) being bandied around more than I care to hear, we still ended up as one of the also rans of the comp. I know things take time to happen when there have been big changes made behind the scenes, but geez it's getting monotonous watching my team finish in the bottom half of the ladder year in, year out.

I know I need some patience, but how many promises of improvement and grandeur have we been given over the years only for the club to end up in practically the same place or even lower as is the case this season. And, of course, management are constantly crying poor, which has now become a self fulfilling prophecy that just irritates the hell out of me. You say something aloud often enough then everyone begins to believe it and then everything they think and do comes from that position of disadvantage. The rate things are going, I'll have one foot in the grave before we ever make the finals again!

The _only_ good thing about our season was the much lower injury toll than we've had the past 3-4 years AND that Teddy played the full season

This club needs to employ Steve Folkes as head coach (Taylor can be his assistant because he ain't a head coach) and a very good sports psychologist/motivator - that would be a giant step in the right direction towards improvement, IMO.

Nothing much has changed at the Weststigers in yonks. We are great when we are allowed to play touch footy but when a team wants to physically challenge us we go to water. We are unable to play the grind and very seldom win a arm wrestle.

I just get the feeling that no one really gets to upset when we loose and the mentality is , it is a bonus to win but a loss is okay. Their is no hard nosed attitude in the club. Time will tell, but I really do not see much changing in the next year or two.

Another long off season, and we will get all the usual hype from the club talking up 2016, but you would have to be a brave man to predict a top eight finish next year

Well, one person did.

The backline will be a lot better for this year. Tedesco had a completely injury free season and Moses and Brooks close. Another off season of study and maturing and those three should come out and be better again.

Richards going is also a positive assuming we replace him with a quality player. I think we can then have a good backline assuming Moses and Brooks improve significantly.

What I fear is that we continue to float in and out of games in the forwards. We need our forwards to be intense and stick it to the opponents for the full game. This means we can't afford to carry the likes of Buchanan and Lovett. Woods, Halatau and Ava are already toiling types, we need more forwards who can hit and eat up metres before contact like Sue and Kapow do.

Ava is a weapon. The difference he makes when he comes on is huge. Definitely not a plodder. We need more forwards though with punch. I think Halatau, Ava and Taupau have that ability to run it back hard. Sue isn't bad and Lawrence might also have some impact. Woods is a quality player but he really needs the other forwards to be dynamic and then his ball playing, footwork and quick play the balls can make a difference. We can't afford players like Lovett out there.

Sironen needs to improve as well. I rate the guy but he can't continue to fail to have an impact.

Didn't say he was a plodder, said he was a toiler. He has done some blistering things but I think he's more of a metre eater than an intimidator. Like Ben Matulino and James Tamou types.

At the start of the season my hopes were only to see progression of the young players and for the side to play with heart.
Now the seasons over, my thoughts on it are:

- Very pleased with Tedesco tearing it up all year. The biggest positive for the club. He has become a star of the game.
- very happy with the improvement in Moses. He started very poorly but to his credit improved exponentially and I couldn't be happier he changed my opinion.
- injuries were way better this year: that's a plus!
- disappointed with Brooks' season. He didn't improve any I could tell. I hope no Robbie next year helps him.
- all but given up on Sirronen. A few seasons ago I thought he would have exploded by now but he seems to have little to no impact on games and his 5/8th past looks long forgotten and abandoned. I'd love to see him use his skills and develop into a Glenn Stewart type player…except the being a knob part!
- disappointed with Lodge. So much potential to be a new breed forward but unfortunately being a professional athlete takes more than physical talent alone. This years Daine Laurie Trophy winner...
- found the 5 hit ups, bomb straight to the fullback EXCRUCIATINGLY BORING!! For the first time ever I found myself not really looking forward to watching the tigers game. I don't care if they win every game 8-6: I don't want to watch players so whipped and beaten down they play the game like depressed automatons.
- Taupau was pretty awesome
- this years Farahgate was a big surprise but I think will ultimately be best for the club. It's a move straight out of sun Tzu's Art of War. No club gets rid of a 12 year veteran who is also the captain and incumbent SOO player without very good reason.
- Taylor gets a mulligan from me for this season. Mid 2016 I hope we are all looking back and barely remembering our doubts.

- missed watching my first tigers games in 11 years - and they were the last two this year!! 😢

- hope next year is better!

Highlight…...missing the spoon and seeing Teddy kill it week in and week out

Low light.......Cowboys game at Cambo, how any coach could send a team out to play to such a rubbish game plan is beyond me. It did so much damage to our club internally and externally.

Future......Love to think we bottom out this year and the worm has turned, but I think I may have said that last year and the year before. Would be a lot more confident if we had a coach like Tooves or Bellyache who would not see positives in losses and were very interested in the ladder.

Anyway Once again Iam looking forward to 2016 before the 2015 final series has started...it comes with being a Tigers supporter
