I’m hoping that everyone who signs the petition, walks away from the club when the club ignores it. I’d rather not support the same club as people that feel so self entitled.

Maybe you mean that you wish those fans didn’t support the same club as you, rather than you not support the club.
I often feel that way, but that’s life.
Some fans would simply rather see their favourites play badly and cost us any chance at success, rather than not play. It’s very common. There is a long list of of cognitive biases you could attribute to this mentality.

Almost a form of Stockholm syndrome. He’s been holding us back, yet so many can’t let go.

Maybe they hope you will walk away too, I have to say they seem a little less untitled than yourself who appears to questions other fan's right to support the team because they have an opposing view to yourself.

Now before you start this comes from someone who would prefer to see Benji retire and has not signed the petition, but hopefully you don't stop supporting the club when they don't walk away.

I'm actually disappointed that a post calling for other fans to stop supporting the club has received the support it has, no one should tell people they shouldn't support the club because they have an opposing view.

As I stated in another post, I have no problems with differing opinions, or if people don’t agree with the Benji decision. My problem is when people step over the line and try and force the club’s hand. That’s self entitlement. I won’t apologise for thinking that, nor will I sugarcoat it.

So is acting like your support of the club is better than others and saying they should stop supporting the club

I don’t care. If they want to try and overstep their bounds and force the club’s hand they should stop. What’s the bet they would be the first ones to point the finger if Benji cost us a big game.

and I think if ‘you want to say you don't want to support the same team as them then you are probably the one that should walk away.

Lol I don’t care what you think. End of discussion

Yes end of discussion, I was only giving you a way of ensuring you don't support the same team as those people.

The glaring truth is that Benji should honestly evaluate his own playing performance when considering his future...he should say to himself ''I have done plenty for this game and now want to devote my time to my family"...retirement is the go...sit back, grab a beer cuddle your kids while watching a game on tv and say "" kids Ive been there done that"" and have a swig of beer...

His ego won’t let him. It’s a real shame. Coming back, it gave him a second chance to end things the right way. But again, his ego has gotten the better of him. And once again he’s going to go out the wrong way. As much as I wasn’t a fan of Farah, he did the right thing by the club and didn’t try and go out looking for another club to plod around for another season. His legacy for the most part is in tact. Benji is looking to ruin his for a second time.

I really understand the reluctance to retire, I found it very difficult to retire and would do anything for one more season, even now at 41. I have found it very difficult to replace that feeling of getting ready for a game, going out to play, and the feeling with your mates after a game. The beer never tastes as sweet as that first one after a game. Add to it sometimes a player just doesn't see when their form has dropped, it is invisible to some and I believe it is invisible to Benji.

So let me guess that there are two opposing streams"

i endorse him, but I shouldn't express my opinion;
I want him gone, and I can express my opinion;

Please explain!

I was all for Benji hanging up his boots at the end of this year, but lately I’ve been thinking where the hell is our attacking spark gonna come from if he isn’t there? He is just about the only player in our team consistently looking to create opportunities, Brooks does it occasionally, but nowhere near often enough and Grant, who is an absolute gun will not be here next season either.

Yes he makes mistakes, they all do, but at least he is trying to create something for us, otherwise what would we have going on - 5 hit ups and a bomb at the end of every set? Unless we have secretly signed some great playmaker to take his place for next season I think he should play on another year.

The other reason I wouldn’t mind keeping him for just one more year is that, if all reports that JAC is coming to us are true, then I would love to see them on the field together. Imagine JAC in the space that Marshall created for Kepaoa out wide the other night. It would be shut the gate!

We need to find a new X factor player.... More diamonds less half bricks

Because I think so much of his contribution to the Tigers. I urge him to retire.

Would hate to see another Thurston.

I have loved watching Benji play and his contribution to the club is unquestionable but it is time to retire gracefully as a legend of Wests Tigers.
Every champion has to face retirement some time, there will always be someone faster, fitter, younger, hungrier or more talented.
I want Benji to go out being remembered as a champion player not one of the guys that stayed around too long and became a shadow of their former self or worse a laughing stock of the game.
The club let him come back after his rugby foray and he was aware that it was a limited contract so I agree that to now be spitting the dummy because they won’t give him another contract is entitled behaviour and is creating a bad look for the club.
Love you Benji , it’s time to move on, I am sure your family and your battle weary body will appreciate it.
You are a legend at the club go out with style.

I wouldn't re-sign Benji even on minimum wage. We need his roster spot for younger players who can take us forward. I wish people would stop these campaigns. They are embarrassing the club.

I can see all your points cochise, however we are talking about the tough, fast, competative comp in the world...Benji is fading and he is best to retire before he is obliviated...

If we can offload Jrey, I would entertain him as a backup. I think he's still value at his price tag. But I doubt Josh will go to the UK.

There was no way Rowdy was scoring from there.

Agree to disagree mate, Benji only had to suck in the center which he just about had and Rowdy goes through the hole with only Johnston to try and stop him.

Benji looks like Ricky Ponting in his last year of test cricket. Flashes but overall it just wasn't happening.

JAC?

Benji does far more harm than good, worst defender in the NRL, terrible accuracy on kicks, terrible accuracy on passes, runs the backs out of room again and again. He does far more harm than good.

He should not have played last year

That’s crap . One side is about what’s best for the club the other side is only about what’s best for the individual, and the nostalgia seeing benji brings out in themselves. It has very little to do with club success , and is really indicative of an issue many of us have with club juniors /legends. An inability to let go .
Eg . Myself with Luke Brooks . It looks like I’m going to be shipwrecked on the brooks island with a few others , as most have built boats and are gone .
It’s to an even worse extreme with benji. The club has to come first. Otherwise , with the clear agenda now , especially on channel 9 , with culling Sydney teams , we will be watching Balmain vs Wests in Ron Massey cup in the future.

I'll go a little bit against the grain here.

I would sign him on minimum contract for another year (100K-150K)

The main issues with him are defence and the odd miracle play that doesn't come off.

The upside is 15 try assists and 14 line break assists this season.

Jimmy Maloney, Darren Lockyer, Thurston were not great defenders either. Their clubs found ways to hide them.

For one more year and while our cap straightens out, I would have him there. Just my 2 cents

For me it’s time we moved forward. It’s the same as sheens, he was the coach that delivered our first premiership and I believe would be considered one of the best coaches if he was in charge of a glamour club.

Rightly or wrongly we moved him on because we thought the club was not performing to required levels. Doesn’t mean we might not go backwards but we cannot be happy just not performing because of success more than a decade ago.

Up to you @Kul as it is your creation and you can remember Benji however you like. At a slightly younger age to when you were in year 10, I was idolising a woman of the name Karen Pini with staples through her, but have long looked at her very differently as time progressed.
