Thurston an Immortal? ?

If Inglis is an immortal then im done here bahahahah that bloke is an excuse for a footballer. He had a good season at fullback then the rest of his career was flashes of brilliance. Where is he this year?

Lol get real
Ingliss has been a superstar of the game for many years. Not saying immortal status but your understated assessment of him is a joke.

The current 8 Immortals is enough, adding more will just begin to cheapen the esteem in which being classed as an Immortal holds. Maybe the NRL should go down the Yank trail and start up a Hall Of Fame instead for current and future players to aspire to. IMO Hall Of Fame's are pretty cheesy though….you end up with more players in them than getting left out of them. Thurston is closer to being at the Immortal level than anyone else currently in the NRL.

Yeah, it gets bandied about too much now, every second decent playmaker is up for it. It should be saved for those once in a generation type players - there really shouldn't be that many. Ftr, I'm with Swordy, I think Meninga should be next. He was colossal in every way - club level, Premierships, Origin, Kangaroos and coaching record.

I thought making Joey one was pathetic. Agree with the call for big Mal or Locky.

JT is a legend and I love him but he can't be considered until he orchestrates a premiership. He may have missed his chance due to referee blunders in finals series though…

Are these rugby league immortals or nrl immortals?

Reckon some kiwis or in the ESL deserve that honour?

He used to be an absolute croc 5 years
Matured a lot in that time and i have a fair bit of respect for him.

He still couldnt save Australia last Sunday..

Followed by a JT laugh, you all know what it sounds like

Certainly a difference of opinion. No one should even be talked about whilst playing.

We don't need another Immortal at the moment - it needs to be considered very carefully.

I don't consider Meninga, Lockyer, Smith, Inglis etc. to ever be Immortals.

Since when do you need to have played x amount of games, won x amount of Grand Finals.

The consideration is how good you are on the field. Not what you did off, how many charity events you attended, whether you gave your headgear away or any other thing.

HOW GOOD YOU WERE ON THE FIELD - that is all.

Very few can fit the mould of those already there.

Lets wait until his career is over before making any judgements

He might have won 3 back to back premierships by then

The other issue would be if he wins another Dally M and overtakes Johns , what then ??

Most would agree that Thurston is in Johns class and he is an Immortal

As I said lets wait until he retires

I dont put him anywhere near Johns or Wally, the only 2 immortals Ive seen play. No one else in that time comes close to them either.

I never saw the rest, but the stories are amazing. Fulton and Bozo, changed clubs, success followed and those St George guys just won everything….. I assume that Churchill was just as amazing given his status in the game.

I put him on the next level with Sterlo, Fittler, Locky, Meninga, Slater, Smith plus a few others in the greats class, but not immortal.

Would it surprise most of you to know that in the 5 years prior to Benji going to Rugby that Thurston made more error than Benji, at the same time knocking up less Tries, TA's, line breaks and line break assists.

If any of these current crop get immortal status, it ruins the whole thing

Meninga has to become an Immortal

I'll be amazed if he isn't in the next inducted group

In the current crop, he's a lot better than the others they're talking up as being "Immortals".

Not sure though.
I think SBW is the best rugby league player in the world and he doesn't even play rugby league.

How people can say that Andrew Johns doesn't deserve to be an immortal is just mind blowing.

He is probably the best player to ever play the game or at the very least the second best.

How is that not enough to be classified as an NRL immortal ?

Thurston is also being touted as a challenger for the best to ever play the game tag. Does that not mean he should automatically be inducted into the immortal class ?

How can you be in the top 5 players to ever play the game and yet be overlooked as an immortal when there are already 8 people in that bracket ?

It really doesn't make sense…

I always rate Meninga the 4th best player Ive seen. (Johns, Lewis, Fittler ahead of him)

If we include his coaching success with Qld and his ability to overcome a horrible injury run I place him higher than Fittler (rightly or wrongly )

easily, once he admitted to sustained recreational substance abuse throughout his career…

for me he tainted what should be reserved for only the games finest.

Post-playing career does not come in to consideration when choosing immortals

That's why I said rightly or wrongly

I don't necessarily agree with that

Players don't become champions without good coaching

I think it's good they leave it to the playing career… it gets too messy if you start taking into account off field contributions.

But not the other 2, they stand above even the greats, which Fitler and Mal are undoubtedly.

IMo in the last 30 years 2 stand above the rest and are the only immortals from the period.
