Thurston dummy spit

Thought the suspension was abit rough considering Thurston didnt aim his swearing at the referee as such. He's a very passionate player and you can see why he was so devestated by the call/loss. Was a line ball for mine.

I'm glad he's being cited. I don't care if the referee is right, wrong or terrible. You simply don't carry on like that (as funny as it was though). You accept it and move on. If they let him get away with it, then they set a precedent for what is acceptable, and before you know, captains are doing dummy spits like tennis players.

People carry on about the poor standard of refereeing these days. I'm not convinced that they are any better or any worse then they have ever been. God, Hartley couldn't even count to 6 when he was at his peak. Matches, and even premiership titles, have been won and lost on the back of poor refereeing decisions. It happens in all sports and is part of the joy/frustration of being a supporter.

hahahaha the overrated hack actually gets suspended im sure if it was a QLD game next week he wouldn't though

Love to see who you think is a quality player seeing as though you have said for years now that JT is an "overated hack".

Come on now ….regail us with your wisdom.

then why with a talented team around him cant he get his team into the top 8?? their alwyas bottom 4 Andrew Johns carried his team into the top 4 year after year

04 cowgirls almost made the grand final where was Thurston?? sitting on the bench with the bulldogs

I dont believe he has had a talented side around him. There are some very good players that have been on the books with the club who have been injured for extended periods and at crucial times.

Joey had help. Jt literally carries that club.

If he had played for the Broncos or Saints or even Newcastle he would have played at the pointy end of the season every year.

The bloke is an out and out legend of the game. I can also remember Joey throwing huge tantrums on the field as well. They are extremely passionate players and very similar. I agree with people saying that it's not a good look but for want of a better defense…it's real. They both wore their hearts on their sleeves. He'll do his time and kick the blues bums again the following week.

A player does not deserve to be called a hack when he has single handedly won origins for his state and test matches for his country. I reckon he has achieved both of these feats at least twice as often as Joey ever managed to do it.

Its unfortunately highlighted the massive double standards that exist with our referees today. Some players are getting binned for silly remarks, while players like Thurston can go mental and have nothing done to them.

I still maintain that as an 'alleged' role model Thurston should know better

The real role models - if theyre doing their jobs properly - should be telling the easily influenced that Thurstons (who btw is a pro footy player, not a role model) actions were not appropriate

I actually agree with you. That's why I had 'alleged' using those comma thingys before and after

Just a quick note on Thurston.

I am sure everybody remembers the game at Leichhardt last year when the crowd really gave it to Thurston (me included)

At the end of the game he stayed on the sidelines for a good ten to fifteen minutes signing autographs and talking to the kids, laughing and Joking with them (all Wests Tigers supporters I might add).

My opinion of him really changed on that day. Yes he is aggro and has dummy spits on the field but it seems it is left on the field and not left festering.

Love ya JT

Pity WT didn't have JT as halfback I'd guarantee we would be leading this comp. This bloke plays with extreme passion in all games,as I tell my grandson " if you want to improve your game"watch JT play,he is on the ball at all times in attack and defence and never stops, an 80 minute player.Sadly for us JT is not at West Tigers. What an explosive backline there would be,if only…..

The thing is, if the ref actually showed some leadership, some control and dealt with the situation there and then ie:
JR " Be careful Jonathon youre on you last warning"
JT "whinge [This word has been automatically removed] moan wah wah"
JR "OK off you go for 10"
…then we wouldnt even be discussing it.
He stood there and copped it and allowed it to go on & on.

Refs lacking control are just as bad for the game

Totally agree with you tigeress:Robert Lui looks the goods.Yes I've been watching his play closely and looking forward to his improvement as seen against the Warriors last friday,by this seasons end could be real quality….He's a Queenslander as well ha!ha!.....

I think that is spot on, Ink. If the refs took more control, used the SIN BIN occasionally, were consistent and CONFIDENT in their decisions, these situations wouldn't blow up.

Good Call Man… However I hear a lot of people using the same argument with Farah and Marshall these days. JT is a great Rep Footy player. He does a great job for QLD and Australia no matter how badly the Cowboys are playing. He'd be a dream come true for NSW selectors.

The Cowboys have never been the same since Graham Murray left. Since he has been gone its turned into "The Jonathon Thurston Show"...

Typical NRL tho. Dusting off an obscure rule that hasn't been used in 10 years to penalize the games premier halfback. Swearing at the ref is as old as sport itself...

Good stuff Tigermac…thats the real guy.

everybody go abuse the referee if you play sport.. because its all OK for the biggest scumbag in the NRL to do it that means everybody can now do it!!

He got off the charge:

Johnathan Thurston found not guilty by judiciary for abusing referee

June 02, 2010 .North Queensland Cowboys¿ captain Johnathan Thurston has won his appeal against a detrimental conduct charge at the NRL judiciary.

Thurston contested the grade one charge via video link from Townsville after he was sanctioned following an expletive-laden rant at referee Jason Robinson.

The Queensland and Australia halfback was furious at a forward pass ruling by Robinson in the dying stages of the struggling Cowboys' 24-20 loss to Manly on Saturday, and sarcastically told the official he should be "man of the match''

The three-man panel found in favour of Thurston, after a lengthy, and at times bizarre, hearing in Sydney.

Thurston is now free to face South Sydney at ANZ Stadium on Monday night.

 C'mon that is Golden's best work…..I'm still laughing....

Thurston is a grub on the field....fantastic player but a grub none the less...he gets away with it where others haven't in the past....

And he's a Queenslander....

Haha yeah I know…when I heard the news I came stright here as I knew Golden would be going beserk...he makes me laugh.

So Thurston blew his top because the referees are incompetent. And now he doesn't get charged… because the referees are incompetent.

Dangerous precedent they judiciary just set…. I wouldn't expect any player to be marched or miss any weeks for desent for the rest of this season... if they are it'll be BS
