I don't think people realize how big this deal is for our season

i do

harry is a MASSIVE boost for our squad

a good hooker is the difference between winning games and losing

Bit of a worry when an unproven kid who has been playing for the Sunny Coast with all of 2 NRL games under his belt is a massive boost for our squad.
Anyone else get the feeling this kid is getting talked up a little too much around here?
Anyone would think he's already better than Cameron Smith.

Yes, we're notorious for getting excited about players we've never seen play.

Don’t worry it probably won’t happen anyway. Once the NRL digs its heels in, it’s hard to get them to change their minds.

Is the issue that counting Momo at Grant's salary would mean the true value of the squad is over the cap?

If they are cap compliant to the dollar with 30 players but Momo is on 250 and Grant 150 then despite being all good on the books, I terms of players real salaries they are over.

NRL is full of dinosaurs. They need to go spend some time in an NBA and NFL front office so they can grasp the concept. Those leagues can deal in 50+ million in contract trades in a day. NRL can’t get Their heads around 30k In 2 weeks.

In an hour sometimes . Sometimes it’s a 4 team trade , with picks ,cash considerations ,buyouts and then the actual players . You’re right it’s hilarious how small time the NRL is at times l

The NBA sets clear rules around trades which align to
- roster space to aquire
- cap space to absorb
- cash/draft assest rules, so clubs can’t just give all their draft picks etc.

For the nrl it should be simple - roster & cap space

Last night trades were done on phone calls within 15mins

Difference with a trade and loan with rules in other comps is around players playing against their team. Which would be an easy rule to govern.

NRL is waaaay behind the sporting world these days.

I'm not saying he is better than Smith , I'm saying he is solely hooker , has speed out of dummy and a good passing game

And when Bellamy is quite happy for this kid to take over from Smith next season and leave Brandon Smith at lock / back row it really says something I honestly believe Brandon Smith is a Top 5 hooker in the comp

Worked with major global companies in senior roles for years. None of them would employ any of the intellectually sequestrated clowns running the NRL.

Imagine the NRL trying to manage the trade deadline ?

I’m sure everyone can see the possible future implications if not handled correctly, however it isn’t rocket science, surely this can be sorted quickly and as all parties have said, it’s been with NRL for sometime.

The main concern would be if a club did go over their existing salary cap with New players value considered (even if original club was still paying for it). If this isn’t impacted, then perhaps a caveat might be put aside in that years cap, for the difference in the higher contract (whoever that may be), I can’t see an issue as no club has an extra advantage on any of the other 14 clubs not involved in the transaction.

Both players would be on very simliar money. Momo had played a handful of first grade games when he signed with us. Might be on 200k. Grant only recently signed a 3 year deal, he's 21 and about to embark in his career. A highly touted played he wouldn't be on minimum, maybe 150-175k for this season.
The fact that both clubs have already payed 3 months worth of salary seems to be the issue. Those 3 months count towards the cap. But then we're signing a replacement player on a very similar contract so the total amounts paid will be very close. Is it that technically there's player payments for a 31st player that's the issue? Don't see this impacting Roosters squad number of paying for Trell for a few months.

Momo was at the Tiger's season launch this morning. Said he's been living out of a bag and unsure where it was all at. Yet to also re-sign (Spoke about a 2 year deal)

? Ole Pascoe and his hair were looking sharp this morning. There might be a Vidal Sassoon sponsorship in the wings for the CEO.

You know things are travelling ok at the Tigers when the club has a launch and the take discussion is Pascoes hair.

Who would have thought it would have been this smooth a month ago?

This sort of agreement represents innovation and progress. Concepts that are foreign to the boffins at NRL HQ. They are probably struggling to understand a proposal that is both logical and mutually agreeable by all parties concerned.

The problem for Greenturd is that he didn't come up with it. He thinks he's some sort of God.

Why dont both clubs release its players, and if theres a difference in money say Momo is on $200k HG is on a $100k. We pay HG momo's salary and storm pay momo HG's salary. Therefore we backend momo's deal to include the difference in HG salary. The storm do the same with HG but in reverse he gets paid more this year but less in subsequent years. Obviously we would have to sign Momo beyond this year for this to work but the NRL could do nothing about it.
