NRL won't allow it

The NRL has officially torpedoed the 12-month swap deal between Storm young gun Harry Grant and Tigers centre Paul Momirovski over a $16,000 salary cap dispute.

While Wests Tigers have no issues accommodating Grant into their top 30 roster the Storm ran into trouble after attempting to lodge the Momirovski contract with the NRL.

Both players have had bags packed for the past fortnight and been awaiting an official ruling from the NRL.

The clubs were told they would get an answer last week but the NRL’s response seems to have been shrouded in red tape.

After 5pm on Monday, the NRL’s Integrity Unit informed Melbourne the deal could not proceed because it would push the Storm over the $9.8 million salary cap.

Fox Sports has been told the Tigers intend to try and proceed with the Storm agreement to release Grant to the Concord-based club for 12 months.

But as it sits at the moment, Momirovski will not be allowed to link with the Storm.

Both players toured each club’s facilities last month and met coaches Craig Bellamy and Michael Maguire.

Momirovski is believed to be close to agreeing to a new two-year extension with the Wests Tigers which will see him remain at Concord until the end of the 2022 season.

Could still get Grant

You have to question how that will benefit Melbourne though. Wouldn't be on much money and excellent back up.

How and why could we still get him?

Storm might see the benefit with him getting NRL experience before he takes over from Smith. Only thing I can think of.

*grant then scores winning try against storm to win us the game*

I do like the fact that NRL said no, and we are still trying to get Grant for one year as a backup plan.

I can't see why Storm would say yes, but no harm in trying. Only good things can come of it.

But we still getting Grant,,,momo is staying

Keep Momo and still get Grant, that would be bloody awesome! Maybe that's why the Jennings rumour emerged?

Well frankly Storm should get their salary cap in order before lodging official requests to the NRL that exceed their cap.

You would thini that it's basic stuff for a club. It's not the NRL's fault.

So Melbourne get the math slightly wrong and the NRL, utterly bereft of the ability to innovate or be flexible, can't find any way around the Storm's $15,000 cap error. Not as if anyone is trying to cheat. Seems we are still a chance of getting young Grant with Momo staying put.

The NRL need to draw a line in the ground.... Next time another team will be over by more... If you give an inch they'll take a yard
