Tigers and Storm Player Loan Swap

[It’s back on! Storm and Tigers re-open talks over Grant-Momirovski switch](https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/nrl-2020-west-tigers-paul-momirovski-harry-grant-melbourne-storm-swap-deal/news-story/91d26b208ef206f5532404ae4850b2cc)

The much-hyped Harry Grant-Paul Momirovski player loan arrangement between the Melbourne Storm and Wests Tigers is back in play again.

Fox Sports has confirmed the Storm and Tigers have reopened negotiations about making the unique seven-month player swap deal happen.

With the March 1 deadline to have 29 NRL players registered on NRL club rosters now passed, both clubs are in dialogue to get the deal done as quickly as possible.

Provided all the correct NRL protocols are followed, the move could happen in time for round one.

The move appeared all set to get the green light last month before the NRL torpedoed the arrangement after it ruled the situation would have tipped the Storm $16,000 over the limit of the $9.8 million salary cap.

But with Grant continuing to push for a release due to his desire to get more NRL game time and Momirovski still open to spending seven months under Craig Bellamy in a different system, both clubs are trying to thrash out a way to make it work.

The Wests Tigers are still intent on adding specialist dummy-half Grant to the club’s roster for 2020 after trialling Billy Walters and Josh Reynolds at hooker.

Walters has the jump on becoming the Tigers first-choice hooker but is far more accomplished in the halves while Reynolds is also better suited as a five-eighth or utility.

Should the Tigers bring Grant to Concord, he will walk straight into the no. 9 jumper vacated by club champion Robbie Farah at the end of last season.

Grant showcased his talent in the Storm’s most recent trial against the Cowboys, once-again underlining why he is ready to play NRL.

Momirovski picked up an ankle injury in the Perth Nines but it is only a minor issue.

The Storm are intent on adding depth to their centres after the departures of Queensland and Australian centre Will Chambers and Curtis Scott at the end of last season.

As it stands at the moment, Justin Olam and Brenko Lee are expected to start the season in the centres for the Storm’s round one match against Manly at Brookvale on Sunday March 15.

Both Grant and Momirovski toured their respective new club’s facilities earlier this year before the NRL rejected the initial player transfer.

Pooper Alert...

Till Moses M is fit, AD into the centre and the back three remain the same would seem the logical solution and Tommy T is another option. Fingers crossed this happens a d Grant is here by the weekend

I think chopping and changing AD is counter productive. I think we should put him at fullback and keep him there. For the first week or two play Talau or Jennings.

totally agree, he will need time to develop into the fb role...if that’s where we plain to have him for the next couple of years, need to get the growth/develop done now....besides Jennings and Talau would add some nice height on an edge...just don’t expect any cut out balls from either of them

For sure. Jennings can fill in there, most of our attack will go down the right side anyway. Mbye might only miss round 1 and if the swap does happen it could be after that. Madge isn’t silly if it happens he’ll make sure it won’t affect us on the field negatively

We still sleeping on momirovski?

Tigers aren't. He's signed for a number of years after this.

Tbh dont think we really need him, I would rather give walters a go and if he is no good which i think is a rare result we give reynolds a go, and plan c would be give mbye the position then promote either talua who deserves some game time to centre or give it to momo

I think we need him massively. Of the three players you've mentioned none are actual hookers. Grant has looked great from the games i've seen and is an 80 minute option. The value he will add will be enormous. And a straight swap for Momirovski is a no brainer given Mbye and BJ are likely first choices anyway.

When did that happen...?

We’ve got plenty of centres and no hookers. Surprised people still don’t understand how big this could be for us if it happens. Having a proper 80 minute hooker could take us from 9th-10th to 7th-8th or higher. Such an important position we lack in, and clearly Madge thinks the same otherwise he wouldn’t bother with the swap

Touted to really be *back* on. Stay tuned folks

Fingers crossed ??

Got everything . Imo, make or break signing for us to gather enough momentum for a charge.

Momi wouldn’t be missed and I think the real beauty of how Madge + Pascoe and Hartigan are trying to re-negotiate the situation is in that we might also have 3 very good young Rake’s in the ranks, then with Madden poised to fill in at 6 and JR seemingly cooled his heels.

That is serious, serious depth!

I reckon if it goes ahead , it will be 1.AD 2. nofa 3. BJ 4. Jenno 4 Thommo .

Jenno drops off when Moses comes back . Chuck grub on the bench , and you got a very handy team there .

This Grant kid is very good, plays direct and knows how to pick apart a pack. He makes the quick clear decsions a good modern hooker needs to and can help dictate the speed of the game. Looks a solid defender and fit enough for 80mins.
Where as Reynolds, Walters and Mbye look like chooks with their heads cut off and will all need to be interchanged.
Allowing another forward on the bench makes us a better team straight up.
Hope we get him.
