Tigers and Storm Player Loan Swap

Interesting piece out of an article re Jacob
LIDDLE
Now he admits he may not even get on the park at all in 2020.

He will begin running again soon but the club medicos have warned him not to get too optimistic about a return date.

“I’ve talked to the physios a few times.... they keep on saying 2021, but I’ll get back. I’m trying to get back as quick as I can,” he said.

Maybe the reason for the renewed interest in Grant

with this Melbourne could try & remove said clause from Grant’s contract in order for them to approve his release for this year.

Why would Grant ever agree to do this? He's already making a lot of public noise about wanting to get an opportunity now, and I wouldn't trust Cameron Smith to do anything when he says he would do it - he is a law unto himself (and to many a degree he's earned that right).

If Grant signs with us beyond this year we will be ridiculously spoilt for choices at hooker.. Grant, Liddle to return, Simpkin in development (from all reports that's 3 gun hookers), with Walters and JR also easily capable of filling the role. Usually is all or nothing at this club I suppose..

INTERESTING SNIPPET FROM FOX SPORTS

Storm captain Cameron Smith has no immediate plans to retire when his contract ends at the conclusion of the 2020 season.

Should he choose to play on in 2021, Smith would enter an unprecedented 20th season in the NRL.

Currently the most-capped player in history with 411 NRL games to his name, the 27-year-old revealed he has a spring in his step heading into the Storm’s minor premiership defence.

If that happens and you think all three will stay - your crazy.

Not sure about Simpkins - but I would bet that should Liddle or Grant be the chosen one - the other would leave. Especially with Liddle's contract being up at the end of this year.

27 year old? Gee they're hopeless. You would think if writing is your profession you would take pride in not making dumb mistakes like that. Get it proofread already.

Feel sorry for Walters

Walters is keen on it - he’s good mates with Harry Grant

Yeah I don't believe a word of that. The bloke has trained all off-season, done a deal specifically to get opportunities at Tigers, performed well in the trials, and he's very likely to be starting hooker Round 1. And Harry Grant would probably wipe that all away.

Walters is probably eyeing of the 6 jumper, they played together at Melbournes feeder club, and I for one would like to see Walters given a shot at five eighth, that is his natural position, and we need a five eighth.

Grant and Walters have never played in the same Q Cup team...Walters played for Easts Tigers..Grant Sunshine Coast Falcons..where the Storm send there better players

Well yes I think that goes without saying.. Maybe I could have worded it a little differently. We'll have quite a few choices to make, and hopefully the right ones.

I hope this trade happens but worried Grant has had no pre season with WT to build up combinations. Two new players in the important spine positions. Might take a couple of months to gell.

Geez by the time this actually happens (if it does) Liddle will probably be fit anyway, and Walters will have got used to playing hooker. Getting a bit late in the piece to be worthwhile. For it to be worthwhile he needs to be here yesterday.

If Grant stays having three hookers in your squad isn’t an issue, Simpkin will be in reserves so then you’ve got two first grade hookers which seems reasonable.

Walters is more a 5/8 anyway

Story in today’s paper saying Liddle might not play at all this season

I didn’t realize the Storm had 2 feeder teams, but I stand by my thinking Walters wants the 6 jumper, and we should give him a shot

Ah, fair enough that changes things

Think I read somewhere that Grant has an escape clause in his current deal if Smith plays on past 2020. Not sure how that can be covered in any swap deal.

Wouldn’t be part of his swap deal at all, it’s part of his storm contract in 2021.

A player this could effect greatly with Grant coming over is Chee Kam.
Grant comes over & starts as 9 see's the likes of Walters taking a bench/utility role. Something Chee Kam has covered last year, Madge likes having big bodies on the bench, unless Chee Kam could jag a starting spot I see him missing out if Grant makes the move.

Way off, IMO, Reynolds + Liddle suffer massively. Rather MCK off the bench (easily one of our best there) and only one of the three that fills in at centre so that mainly leaves Mbye as cover

I'm with you.

2 props, one back rower (nether garner or LL can play 80) and one utility (no hooker can play 80). Once we have players who can play the full 80 you could add an extra big guy but our forwards are really quite durable as is. Twal can play 50-60. Aloiai 40. Mikaele 40. Musgrove 40-50. We don't need to restrict them to 20 min spurts of pure power and impact.

I can't sympathise with you there. If he trains hard and executes the game plan he will get his shot. He shouldn't expect a spot

Garner can play 80. Did it a few times last year to good effect.
