This review just stinks we do the simple things that wrong

1 - we have terrible assistance coaches.
2 - We have zero in attack and has zero structure, our kicking is shocking, Nofa most of the season was ineffective at the back with the ball because he went sideways (field position). We had a heap of ball in the 30mtr zone and have one of the lowest conversion rates
3 - our defensive structures & tatics have been shocking. The person who reviews our opponents doesn’t attacking formations and threats have either never watched the teams or just watched a try time highlight reel. It is a shamble. We can kids this and that but it was deadset shocking.
4- lapses in games, this isn’t anything to do with mental toughness it highlights how bad we manage our bench rotations, we play a hold hit style ball and then fallback defense style. This creates fatigue as we are always on the backfoot. The 30-50min mark has costed us soooo many games this year because our tatics and bench rotations in games on defense and attack are poor.
5- player assessment, I love Brooks but he is shot under Madge. But what half can play under him? Brooks style of game has just disappeared. His running, passing and even low/short kicks wven long grass kicks have 100% gone. He has been coached to bomb, coached to rove and coached to be something everyone could see he isn’t and thats an organising halfback. The coaching team are trying to get radical changes from players rather than use players strengths as part of the game plan. Yes we need structures & setup plays but lets put this in context under Madge he has burnt out at least 4 halves all before him had been NRL effective halves who caused havoc in unstructured situations. Madge hates unstructured play but he has a team who loves that - Liddle hardly runs anymore when he does boom instant advantage for us - this list goes on.
5- recruiting, we are missing all the big targets despite offering more or equals to teams lower or near us. Its 100% failure rate so far. We need to know why and this must be resolved. Saying we are crap is BS. Bulldogs & Broncos are crap but scored big names with ease. We have major issues in how we handle negotiations and discussions with players.
6 - we had a consistent performance issue when we had huge motivation to perform multiple times and got towled up. Our coaching staff have zero capability to motivate, correct, awareness when something isn’t right - but hey we train brilliantly. What a load of crap. If we trained brilliantly no chance in daylights we perform even close to what we did. It’s clear how we train is impacting how we perform.
7- cause correct and leadership just doesn’t exist. When something goes wrong they stay with the same gameplan. There is no option b/c/d its all plan a. We have no one who barks orders and pulls the head in to get the boys pumped and focused. We are just a one dimensional team all over the park

Yay we have some good kids, every club does….

We as a club this year have not shown anything at all to provide a sign we will be better next year we have performed worse year after year and wow we have Hastings and Gildart, a rookie and a player who didn’t make it here last time round. It’s an awesome confidence boost to show things are on the up.

We need more than a review because right now this club is performing the worst it ever has on it, uninspired, lack luster and zero hope.

Sounds like someone has put their hand up to do the review.

If the club needed me would jump all over it.

I need to start a consultancy business that does football club reviews. Wests would be VIP customers, plenty of repeat work there.

If it were possible, it would be great to ask Harry Grant for his imput during the review process.
It would certainly tell where were at.
He became an origin player with us and received nearly weekly standing ovations from us in the crowd but yet he quickly went back to Melbourne to fulfill his Contract. In the past a player often fell in love with the place with that adulation and personal success.
But not he, wonder how he would compare the club's and did he think there was much future with us

He certainly ran.

Seems to have blocked out his time here.

He tried his guts out every game.
Professional as it gets.

Can't say the same for some other lads.

Personally, having seen Tigertown, I wld have done the same...maybe quicker!!
He may not be lost forever, but wed need a stronger coaching structure and several other guns to take the focus of him.He was heavily marked in the end

I would give credit to Madge for helping develop Harry...he was a third string hooker at Storm and under Madges coaching he played Origin...no mean feat...but then again Madge haters will give all the credit to Bellamy...just saying...

Haven't seen any statements on it and though people may disagree, I don't like that it's caused team setbacks that may harm us for years.
While I agreed with it at the time, I'd like to know what the overall strategy was to releasing every player with solid leadership abilities.
Not knocking the junior pathways program in any way as I personally hold a lot of hope for it to succeed. However putting it front and centre of our plans while the current team are regressing, will potentially cause nothing but delay in the development of these younger players. It seems like a careless decision.
I know it's an assumption but I'm also basing this off this year's team performance and all adjustments which were made - very little IMO and some incorrect.

There's a reason why our youth are our better performers - as the bar isn't very high - and it's naturally easier for them to stand out against this. The maturation process will eventually determine their capabilities and limitations, but is totally dependent on the team's culture and environment. So at present it's not too supportive and we're probably more at a snail's pace with our growth.
Elijah Taylor or Matt Eisenhuth (even Benji, though I believe it was the correct decision) would've been perfect in building teamwork and confidence amongst the group. The poor accountability, team harmony and cohesion from this group of players makes it worrying they'll develop any core skills at the required level for NRL I.e goal setting, communication and leadership skills.
In all honesty this team isn't finals worthy and we're still a good way off. But I hope there's a thorough examination of our training methods too. Seems the boys weren't often up to it mentally, physically, technically or tactically.
So yeah my biggest complaint is the lack of leadership and why it wasn't more carefully considered.

A full on review is correctly priority no one. Priority no2, it is done by a qualified and impartial person, Priority no3, is that everyone from the very top to the bottom is part of the review.

Than the most important thing…the club has to act on the findings. It might mean Madge is out the door or even Pascoe, what ever it is they have to be decisive and set out a plan for the short and long term future of the club and make people100% responsible that goals are reached.

Iam over supporting a team that just makes up the numbers year after year

Spot on

Agree with all of this, though I think leadership **was** considered; they thought they could buy it in (Tamou). From purely a punter’s perspective this just hasn’t translated to leadership on field. His would’ve been a totally different role when he left Penrith, a wildly successful team with decent first grade experience and depth, full of strong personalities, many of whom had played together for a number of years.

From Benny Elias’ comments on Fox Sports he seems convinced that Sheens is conducting an ‘independent’ review.

I also put this in another thread:

Well Foxsports reporting a rift between Maguire and Hartigan.

I wonder if the inability to get good player signings has created finger pointing between the 2?

I remember fox reporting kid year madge was off pascoe because he didn't like his haircut.

I've been saying for a long time, our problem is spread throughout the club culture and structure.

if we are to succeed we need everyone from broad, ceo, gms, coach, players, staff, juniors all pulling in the same direction.

And if we are failing, sacking one person, madge or pascoe or haritgan isn't going to solve the problem.

Wouldn't surprise me madge and hartigan don't seem their on the same page. Hartigan didn't even say one word on the madge show.

I'd say one of them is gone for next season.

Hartigan is key for us moving forward. He’s the last person who should be shown the door.
