Austin has really stepped up this year and proved he is a nrl player. But Austin has to go unless they find a position for him outside the halves… My greater concern is how are they going to accommodate Martin in the halves because he looks like a superstar.

Tim Moltzen is one of six contracted Wests Tigers players who have been told to find a new club next year, while form playmaker Blake Austin could be headed to the Canberra Raiders.

While extreme uncertainty surrounds the club’s coaching staff for 2015, decisions have already been made about which players are surplus to needs next season.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Jack Buchanan, Kurtis Rowe, Nathan Brown, Joel Luani and Moltzen are among the players who have been granted permission to look elsewhere, despite having another year to run on their contracts. It’s understood the players were all informed over the past month.

Austin is also contracted for another season, but has attracted interest from the Raiders, who are hunting for a five-eighth to replace out-of-favour veteran Terry Campese.

After the statements made by the nominaters in that thread, should be cause enough for him to be re-signed long term.
Somebody pass that link onto the head honchos so they can see how much of an impact he has made to the club this year.

Everyone complaining about Austin - the article reads as if he has asked to play 6 or he will potentially ask for a release.

Ultimately, it should be up to the coach to decide who plays where. Personally, I would tell Austin that he will play where he is told by the coach and if he doesn't like that then tough.

As for Austin, good player, but long term he will not be starting 5/8 ahead of Moses.

I'm wondering who the 6th player who's been advised to try find another club is. They say 6 players have been informed, yet name only 5\. Hopefully the 6th is Lawrence and the club just didn't want to publicly out the bloke along with the average juniors.

Though really it should be up to the new coach as to whether he thinks he can salvage anything respectable from Lawrence.

Austin hasn't been advised to find another club, so it's not him. Austin may want to play 6 but we won't know until February March next year where the coach sees him fitting in so he'll just have to wait til his contract runs out if he wants to leave. He's the only half at the club over the age of 20\. No way in hell we'd be letting him go with no replacement.

Austin's future isn't in the halves anyway. He can't pass or kick, only possess a strong running game. Which is why he should train at centre over the off season and see how he goes under the new coach.

All of those players listed aren't up to first grade standard. And can be easily replaced by new kids and see how the next batch go…

Its the end of 2014 and people still try to be cool by bashing Blair.

Blair is not worth 550k a season, not even close. He too could be replaced by many second rowers/locks who would make far less errors, give away far less penalties and runs for more than an average of 78 meters per game for a lot cheaper coin. He is poor and no where near worth the money he is being paid. A grub too.

It was madness signing Brown in the first place,he never looked good to me,and we probably paid overs to keep him,Luani would be on not much and Buchanan signed for 3 years so he could have been on anything back then.
As others have said,how can we be in cap trouble,something is seriously wrong there,compare our roster to easts,souths,canterbury,brisbane,manly and brisbane are still buying name players for next year.
Maybe we could do a swap with canberra,Austin for Wighton,Croker or even Branko Lee.

Its called Third Party agreements, and unfortuently we dont have any.

The decision to release players already suggests that the 2015 coach is already in house and privy to the arrangements- Potter, Payten,Kidwell, one of these

If these players all go including Austin and Potter goes,will we be financially better off than before ie can we afford the players we need in the centres for example,will we be able to pay a new coach more than we paid Potter I was of the understanding our finances were nearly non existent,hence the B grade type of recruiting we have had..I do understand that some highly paid players from previous contracts will still be here…can anybody shed some light on this for me please,because if we don't have enough money how can we afford better players for next year as well as upgrade our facilities..Just looking for genuine thoughts .......

If Austin really wants to leave, we can't keep him here. As much as we all want him to stay. But I would definitely have the Tigers use it as a massive bargaining chip to maybe get rid of some other dead wood, get some cap space and/or bring in a outside back from the raiders.

Lets face it, with/without Austin, it won't make us a premiership force next year so why not free up cap and front load some contracts (like Lawrence) to give it a real crack in 16.

… or god willing, the juniors might even surprise us earlier than expected next year.

The money allocated for Lawrence in the coming years is a disgraceful waste. The club must look at a way to retire him and release some money so that we are no longer severely hamstrung for cap. Only then can we compete with other clubs to buy a decent player.

We can't let Blake Austin go. He has been the form player in recent times. Let him play 5/8th with Brooke's at half. Teddy will play fullback and put Moses and Simona in the centres. For too long we have let many good players leave and it always comes back to bite us. We release Korobete to Melbourne when we were struggling for backs. Release Lawrence and Blair and then we should be fine under the salary cap. No one else will sign with us until the board is sorted and the coach is in place. Potter hasn't been given a fair chance but will also be cut. Rumour has it that Matt Parish will be the next coach.

As above Austin would be silly to go to the Raiders as a 5/8 he just does not have the skill set to be a dominant in that position ,I would like to see him play in the centres as this is where his strengths are ,I still feel Moses is not ready yet for a full NRL season and the only reason is his size and weight. I hope Austin thinks long and hard about this so called move as he could well be playing Reggies in a very cold city!

Jack Buchanan, Kurtis Rowe, Nathan Brown and Joel Luani have also been told they are surplus to requirement for 2015, according to a report in The Daily Telegraph.

Austin is also contracted for 2015, but is in the sights of Canberra and Cronulla, and may leave to fulfill his desire to play five-eighth, with the 23-year-old likely to be second choice No. 6 at the club behind boom youngster Mitchell Moses. It is understood the Raiders see Austin as an ideal replacement for Terry Campese, with the veteran demoted to NSW Cup after struggling for form this year and considering his options.

Tigers chief executive Grant Mayer said the club would honour all contracts if the players did not find new clubs for next season. "The players are contracted for 2015," Mayer told the Telegraph. "If they chose to stay, they will be playing with the club. The coaching staff has a job to do and that includes decisions about the playing roster."

Austin has been among the Tigers best players this season but it is believed his future may be directly linked to whether Moltzen stays.Moltzen has not played any NRL this year after enduring a knee reconstruction in the offseason and then lasting only 20 minutes in a comeback while playing NSW Cup. If is currently in rehab eyeing a return next year and should he stay the Tigers would be more likely to grant Austin a release.

Meanwhile, Potter is expected to coach his final game for the club against Cronulla on Saturday with the mentor not offered a new deal and failing to trigger a contract extension by missing the finals.

Assistant coaches David Kidwell and Todd Payten are said to be keen to step into the top job.
