Tigers Culture.

TIGERS

Well-known member
Greetings all.

..am I the only one who thinks there is too much of a 'Mates' culture at the Tigers. Meaning that some of the guys at the club seem to be happier playing and mucking around with their buddies rather than doing their job as professionals for the Club??? A bit like the spice boys at Liverpool FC. Not to the same level as them, but I get the same vibe. If you don't know what im on about you should definatley have a read on Wikipeidia.

I get the feeling that Sheens is trying to break that up a bit. I'm actually a bit over Beau Ryan. Average footballer at first, got given a lot of chances at the tigers and developed into a competent first grader. In playing terms he wasn't that much different to Mitch Brown or Fitzy 2005\. Ok he has a sense of humour and a weekly spot on the Footy Show, But his profile simply doesn't match his playing ability. I could get nasty and rant for a bit but you get my drift right?

I can't help but feel like a lot of our established first graders have gone soft a bit soft, lost a lot of focus. Maybe we need a Roy Keane in the room, and by that I mean the kind of guy who will take things a bit more seriously and give someone a clip round the ears when they are of the boil. All eyes on Robbie Farah i guess…

I'm no expert on footy, but after watching how well we played against the bulldogs late in the season, and how often we'd just not show up at other games, or switch off... whatever you want to call it, I just can't help but think that the issues are cultural and not anything to do with who is playing where. I wish i could articulate my point a bit better, but its just the impression i get.

All you need to know about our culture is the tone with which genuinely respected players react when talking about us.

We are a running joke

Good post. I have been to a few training sessions at Concord last few months and I didn't see a lot of focus or intent ..more like a lot of mucking around. Sheens is doomed either way. If he wants to change the culture he needs to move on players. When he tries to move them on they get together and protect their collective arses and he gets hammered.

I cant believe they came out on national TV and said they cried about him having to move away 30km down the road on his $200,000 plus deal

I wasnt happy hearing Matt Parish was favoured, I would like us to get away from our past with personell…...lets get the best people for the jobs....theres a big big world out there other than old Wests & Balmain people...for christs sakes lets GROW

Do we want Woods & Sirro turning into a Ryan and benji???

Do you mean players within Wests Tigers or other NRL Teams? I mean you hear guys like Matty Johns having a crack but he seems to love stirring the Tigers whether he has a reason to or not.

I just feel like someone needs to sit them down and say, "you're all professionals, if we need to move players on thats exactly what we are going to do. You may live with them or chill out on the weekends together but that is not a good enough reason for us to not do what is in the best interests for the club."

Especially when some of these guys make more in a week than some of us do in a month.

Guys like Hindmarsh, Gallen, Smith, Thaiday, Hodges. They all have the same snigger and disdain in their voice

Pfft. "Came out on national tv". It was a press conference. They're contracted to the show. The show decided to run "Turmoil at the Tigers" for 15 minutes. They whipped them into an emotional frenzy and got emotional responses. Too much blame is being given to Beau and Benji without accounting for the fact that the whole thing was orchestrated for ratings.

I think if things don't change regularly enough the culture can become damaged. Bellamy is an exception, but Bellamy runs a sterile environment built on precision and disciplne. I can imagine training at Melbourne similar to being in the Army Reserve, and it shows in their players lack of emotion.

Everything is pointing to a need for enormous change.

LOL…whats the diff???
Come out on TV
Press conference?
No...it wasnt....it was a recorded interview if you wanna be pedantic.

""Whipped into an emotional frenzy""
Pffft...get a grip

There are no consistencies in Club Management. Sir Alex Fergason hasn't changed much in term of tactics or man managment in the last 25 years. Man Utd do just fine. Last season Chelsea won the Champions League after sacking their coach and replacing him with an assistant mid season.

Newcastle got Wayne Bennett this year and its not like the knights were a lot of fun to watch this season. Souths missed out on Wayne Bennett and got much younger coach and are having there best season in 20 years. Does that mean the same thing will happen to us if we do the same in booting Sheens for a gun rookie coach. Look what happened to Parra when they punted anderson for Kearney. The Bulldogs got hasler this season and are suddenly world beaters… Did that spell doom for Manly cause they were without their supercoach.... No.

What works for every club is different. We are a pretty weird club. A joint venture no less without News Limited to pick up the Tab or a sugar daddy ready to fill the gaps where required.

What i do know is that irrespective of who the Coach is our Players messed up just as badly this season and If we try and copy other clubs it will backfire on us.

Its like Humphreys says lets get rid of beau ryan and rhino for a clearing of the boys club but at the same time he says Yeah boys the new coach is a bloke I played with in Balmain reserves in 1987(parish)

And the problem with army reserves is.Lack of emotion.HAHAHA.As in the italian national soccer team or a 12 year old ballerina with her first period.Same thing but at least the ballerina will grow up.I think the Tigers need a good shot of military precision.

The culture has been created by Sheens. He is the heavyweight, forget Humphreys and Royce.

Teflon decides who plays who doesnt, who leaves who stays.

He decides how we play our football and he decides what positions that players play.

He has no doubt done some good work over the years and has helped Benji come back from the career threatening injuries.

But the time is up..time for a new culture..

Funny how for years we were a dismantled group and everyone had issues with each other
Now we are too much of a boys club. It's all crazy talk

At the end of the day we had a similar roster to last year and it was sheens job to get the boys playing better
There is no reason they should have regressed

i???

Trodden (Chairman), Humphreys(CEO), Parish (head coach) ???? Farah (capt) …
Apart from paying the bills what exactly is the Wests influence ? Georgallis and Skandallis ...????
Oh yeah, it's a 50/50 split ...

Well, given as I thought a nice joint venture schism might lighten the current mood somewhat.
Let me spurt ...
These Balmain idiots have led us to this point (Humpty, a contract needs a signature mate) ... Time to give the black and white clowns a go ... Couldn't do any worse!

You can do much worse trust me ! the appointment of the next coach is probable the most important the club will make in the next 10 yrs. I personaly don,t want a neville nobody that has had no expieriance at a top flight level, if this Matt Parish is given the job it will be back to the Terry Lamb days a disaster, someone that has a proven track record would be the only one I would consider not Ricky Stewarts side kick!.
