Tigers looking to sign Israel falou

Dual international Israel Folau is tantalisingly close to signing a two-year deal with Australian rugby after agreeing to terms with the NSW Waratahs.

It is understood the Wallabies fullback, who made his name in rugby league and experimented with AFL before switching to rugby union eight months ago, has agreed to play two more seasons under Michael Cheika at NSW and is now waiting for the Australian Rugby Union to come to the party before the deal is made official.

The Waratahs and the ARU, who both stump up funding for Wallabies players, were hoping to have matters finalised soon after the British and Irish Lions series, in which Folau made his Test debut in stunning fashion. But as time drags on it appears increasingly possible Folau could go into the Wallabies' Rugby Championship campaign under new coach Ewen McKenzie next month without his future locked down.

Folau was spotted in the company of departing Canterbury chief executive Todd Greenberg at the State of Origin decider last week and was as recently as yesterday linked to NRL side Manly after he was spotted training on the Northern Beaches.

Each sighting has prompted another wave of speculation the cross-code star is contemplating a switch back to the code that made him a household name, but Cheika has remained quietly confident all year that the Waratahs and the code can retain Folau. ''I always have been [confident] and I'm not changing now,'' Cheika said earlier this month. ''If it's going to be done it's going to be done very soon.''

Folau became the 867th Wallaby when former Test coach Robbie Deans selected him at fullback against the Lions in the series opener in Brisbane on June 22, capping his remarkable rise from rugby novice to assured performer in the space of a single season.

He scored two tries on debut at Suncorp Stadium and, despite Australia's disappointing loss in the third and deciding Test, remarked that his time in the gold jersey had been ''[one] of the best experiences I have had in my sporting career''.

He will on Friday be named by McKenzie in the 40-man squad the new coach will take into the Bledisloe Cup series and Rugby Championship next month

Title says it all. Story will no doubt "break" over the next couple weeks. Look for Blair to be offloaded if this deal does comes through. 4 years 4 million is what's being touted. I don't agree with that figure. Good luck tigers.

Has it been a couple of weeks ?

U want me to go on?

Could you go through the misses?

No use crowing about the hits when you use a shotgun approach.

How many has he been wrong on??

Not all that many in the years I've been here.

the only two i can think of were luke lewis and Brett Finch, and bother were cases of the player shirking at the last possible second - which were reported by news stories.

If I'm not mistaken either, smoking gun at one point made the unpopular suggestion that Bryce Gibbs was pushed due to behavioural issues, (not JUST to seal the Blair deal like many of you folk here believe) - and that also turned out to be true.

Smoking guns' info has been as good as any pieces we get fed on the forum - I've seen much much worse.

If you want rubbish, go check out the dribble on NRL Gossip, and "The eye" groups on Facebook, or read LeagesUnlimited, or go and visit the Cronulla Sharks "Signing news" ( :roll ) sub thread.

Cut some slack here, seriously you lot.

not sure about many here, but i personally dont come here for this inside info crap- i come here to read people's opinions. not sure how the club would feel knowing someone as arrogant and attention seeking like SG is giving info out like this to the world anonymously

not to mention the rumour he spread about carney and gallen.

And as usual the trolls thread becomes all about the troll himself, that afterall is always the initial aim.

How sad, keeping a ledger - fmd

First I have heard of this in regards to Gibbs, was it made public knowledge that this was the reason? If so, what exactly did he do wrong? Gambling or getting on the turps or something I would guess?

Pretty sure Gibbs assaulted a copper and went on the drink when he shouldn't have been or something like that, FTB. I'm not completely certain, someone else may be able to verify that.

Izzy F is the world's biggest c**k tease, he is a mercenary who will go wherever he gets most.

Why do we even bother starting threads about this guy anyway? It will be the same again in 2 years when he weighs up his next move.

If you were offered to work at a Mechanic in Liverpool and earn 1 million dollars a year or work at a Mechanic in Parra and earn $300k a year where would you work?

i should become a mechanic

Not TIgers, but I was watching the Yawniun tonight and they did make mention that Folau hadn't signed for anyone for nek year

it made me think maybe he's still a possibility for the NRL next year.

but there has been a number of news reports saying he is def. with the waratahs…. who knows?

so, is no-one going to give us a ridiculous claim involving Izzy being seen sipping a latte on Norton St or that he has just bought a house in Concord?
