Tigers Lui eyes Cowboys return

I don't think we need Thompson but he tackles a lot more on average than Lui and doesn't miss as many
Average tackles per game Thompson 21.3 , Lui 14.8.
Lui misses a tackle on average every 3.6 tackles ( yes - less than 1 in 4 effective) , Thompson does 50% more tackling and misses exactly half as many as Lui at one every 7.2 tackles
And the ones Lui misses usually lead to tries… hope he heads home!

I want to see Benji/Miller in the 6/7 combo next year. Lui should have been dropped a long time ago, his current form isn't worth of leading the team around. Hope cowboys sign him.

I think we can find someone who apart from crab across field and pop the ball up for a runner does very little else - cya mate

Lui + the Cowboys would make a great fit. All Rob would have to focus on would be playing his natural game as a ball running 5/8, Thurston would take care of the rest. Post Dallas Johnson on his inside shoulder to do all his defense for him, ala TC/Lockyer and he'd be a excellent acquisition for NQ.

He is a great ball running player, but does that overtake his defence issues….... I dont know. He let in tries tonight but yet scored the crucial try to get us in the game. I say get him a defensive minder and he can be a real valuable player.

He might have scored a try but if you watch the play again, he put his hand up for a kick through and run through to field a kick when surprise surprise, Marshall put it on his chest and he ran 5 steps and fell over with it.

What made me sick was Sterling and Johns carrying on about how he ran a brilliant line. Brilliant line my rear end, he was just looking to run through a gap and fall on a grubber kick and someone else made him look good.

Don't believe me? Watch the replay.

Further proof he is just way out of his depth at the moment.

All it proves is Marshalls fantastic on field vision

I did as you commanded, because I did not believe you and watched the replay. Lui caught the ball above his head, so I cannot see how you can claim it was put on his chest.

Okay, I concede it was not his chest, but I said that as a figure of speech so I apologise.

The gist of what I meant was that Lui didn't position himself for the pass, it just happened that
Marshall took the chance.

What irks me is a few people making out like his try got us into the game as if it was great vision from him. It was anything but.!!!

Most of the time he has his back turned like he is trying to remember what he has to do. It was interesting to see Farah away from dummy half a bit and sharing the organising one off the ruck where Lui should have been. Whether you think Farah should be there permanently or not is not relevant. Fact is it is Lui's responsibility at the moment and the team are covering for him. It's like the team don't have confidence in him either….

It's clear you don't rate the kid, that's fine - he's certainly got some defensive issues he really needs to work on but he'll be starting halfback next year unless he's injured. He's not as bad in attack as you make out and while he misses plenty of tackles, he breaks his fair share of tackles too.

I think a lot of people forget he's only 21 and far from the peak of his powers. Also consider the fact that he could very well have either Ellis or Blair defending alongside him next season which won't be a bad thing.

And it's clear that you do which is also fine. The fact that we need to have Fulton and also Ayshford cover for his appalling defence in itself is appalling. The ball that he caught to score I would hope that anyone over 10 would have caught it. The guy if he does make a break does not know what to do.
I hope he goes and if he does kick on good luck to him.

He ran a great line, between defenders, straight and true. Benji was brilliant to fire an absolute rocket of a pass while he was running at speed and Lui was good enough to take it on the fly. I personally thought that was a brilliant, crisp try. More please.

Are you kidding?
Anybody would have scored!
He is hopeless and always has been - I'm glad that finally everyone else is waking up to him.
He is a first grade footballer who pretends to look like he is going to make a tackle then , at the last minute , decides he will leave it to someone else while he covers the guy who MIGHT be passed the ball.
If not he tries to grab their collar and ALWAYS gets shrugged off.
Funnily enough if someone runs straight into him from a few metres away he can usually ( unless it's someone like Fui Fui ) get them down.
When anyone is in motion in a passing movement he is completely lost.

Do people not remember how bad Benji was in defense when he first started. I'd say his defense was worse than Lui's. Give him some time, he'll come good…...eventually.

The Cowboys have been chasing Lui for 12 months now.

havent read through the posts but does anyone know why ellis was separated from lui?

luis defensive weakness wasnt as pronounced last season when ellis was there protecting him. im guessing it has to do with linking up with benji but i thought lui and ellis were combining well in attack as well last season

I think it has more to do with he has been moved out of an organiser role at times. If you go right you got Benji and Ayshford with Fulton, or if you go left you got Lui, Ellis and Lawrence and Lote.

I may be wrong but I think Farah has been moving out of dummy half more often to run that left side instead of Lui. Happened a bit against the roosters and again against Manly. I know it has always happened, but it seems way more at the moment. This leaves Lui wandering anywhere and not really doing a great deal.

Thats what I meant when I said they seem to have lost confidence in him. Just a thought.

And you're right, I don't rate him at the moment.

He is pretty good when making cover defence tackles aroud the legs . His two main issues in defence are that he lacks technique defensively
His technique seems to start off ok but gets progressively worse .
His lack of commitmtent to defence is the worrying aspect though . I reckon when the opposition player gets within 5 metres of Lui you can tell by his body language if he will miss or make the tackles I don't mind him having a bodyguard so to speak . Look at Lockyer with Tonie Carroll for all those years
