You’re saying we should offload Brooks, yet advocating Hastings in the same paragraph 😂😆

Wests Tigers captain James Tamou on why the Tigers need to hand Adam Doueihi the keys to the team

The Wests Tigers have been hailed Luke Brooks’ team, but Tigers captain James Tamou believes the side would be better served having five-eighth Adam Doueihi as the on-field leader to give Brooks more freedom.

Doueihi produced a stellar performance to help the Tigers snap a four-game losing stretch with a big win over St George Illawarra.

Brooks also excelled against the Dragons, even though he took a back seat in the game management.

Tamou would like to see Doueihi continue his dominant role, declaring it’s the best result for the team moving forward.

“For Adam to do that, maybe it allows Brooksy a chance to take a step back,” Tamou said ahead of Saturday’s clash against the Gold Coast at Campbelltown.

“For the halves to play their best footy, then so be it.

“I feel for Brooksy. He is doing everything he can. We’ve been hyped up and he is always there to cop it.

“He is not doing anything wrong, but for him and Adam to be at their best, it is just the way it has to be with Adam taking on the bigger role.

“Adam adds a lot more than what he looks like.

“You might see Adam walking around and he just keeps to himself, but on the training field and paddock he gives it his all.

“He is a bit more emotional.”

Tamou revealed he had given Doueihi licence to become the team’s vocal on-field leader and blast the players when he felt it was appropriate.

He insists this accountability is what the Tigers need to climb the ladder.

“We’ve had a few conversations and I’ve told him to scream at us, yell at us and blow up at us if you need to get us to where we need to get to,” he said.

“Adam seems to be the type of person to do it at the moment.

“In a few games he has just completely taken over team huddles and told us what to do.

“And I’ve taken a step back and I’ve told him that I’m happy for him to do that because the team reacts well to it.”

Tamou has high hopes for Doueihi’s future in the game as one of the NRL’s finest playmakers.

From experience, he just knows that it takes time, and hard work, to join league’s elite players.

“Nathan Cleary, who I regard as one of the best players in the game right now, it took him a while to get to where he is,” he said.

“For Adam to get to that path, you can’t just springboard him like that.

“He has got to find his own way, and this is him finding his own way.

“He is young, and you can question yourself why you are on the leadership group, but everyone knows why he is there.

“He has got that voice and when he speaks everyone listens, but he backs it up and puts his body on the line.

“He makes himself accountable, and for the team to be successful, he has to make everyone else accountable.”

Tamou nominated Doueihi’s genuine care for the Tigers club as his greatest asset – and now the rest of the team needs to follow their five-eighth’s lead.

“You can tell how much mentally that he is involved in this game and team,” Tamou said.

“He absolutely loves this team, and you can tell when we are not going so well how he walks in with a dark cloud over his head,” he said.

“That is not up to him to take all of that on. That is also up to us that carry that burden.”

Brooks would get offers from at least half of the other clubs if he was off contract

Writing on the wall for Brooks. The current captain saying he needs to take a back seat as he can't do his job well enough for the team.

Doueihi's passion and fire in the guts is plain to see. You need your captain to have that, to drive his teammates to do better and push harder.
Not many players in our team seem to have that obvious passion, if in fact any from an outsider's POV.

Cini showed more passion than 90% of them on Sunday.

The enthusiasm he displayed must be a great reminder to his older, maybe more cynical, team mates about why they play the game. It's fun, have fun and play to win.

Yeah thought the same thing while watching. Hopefully that's rubbed off on them, and not the other way around :joy:

There are a stack on here who hate or don't rate Moses, he is getting offers in the region of $1,000,000 a year, so maybe there are plenty on here who are not real good judges.
Me personally, I rate Moses quite a bit higher than Brooks, not a million a year player though.

Moses reckons he doesn’t care about the money, just wants to play in a winning team and play well. He said he experienced playing in a losing side and it’s no fun. I wonder which club he was referring to? ?

I saw that, and I would agree with him, losing every week is no fun, look at the Bronco's, they are all leaving now too

I saw it as brooks just concentrates on what he does best and let Adam who’s got the personality to control and speak up do it. I’m happy with that, I couldn’t care less who organises aslong as they both play well. They both worked really well together in the second half last week. Brooks will only get better if he isn’t worrying about stuff that doesn’t come naturally to him. Also remember the spine is 4 games old and the team has how many people who have played less than 20 games? The team hasn’t gel’d just yet. Usually takes 30-40 games! That’s why it’s so important not to change the spine around. Best teams have had the same spine and core group for years!

It's a team game and every player plays a role which best meets the team's needs. As we've seen with Brooks over the years he is a loyal player for WTs. This contrasts to Tedesco who couldn't wait to get out of the joint.

You know I heard a funny thing the other day on the ‘morning glory with Matty Johns show on SEN’
Parramatta prop Junior Paulo endorsed Brooks as a halfback saying something along the lines of ‘gee I really like Brooks, if he was my halfback I’d be ecstatic’
Can’t post the podcast but it was a good little chat about the Tigers.

Rugby league is a simple sport, yet it is often complicated. Some of the best coaches have proven that players have roles in the team and if they are well versed in that role then they are successful.
A five eight doesn’t need to be an organiser and a play maker. They are two jobs.
Brooksy does the job of getting the boys around the park and into position, probably in conjunction with carrying out the game plan. Doueihi does the things that can be attempted outside of that structure.
I’m all for more focus on Doeuihi and Laurie as our play makers. That will just finally open up plenty of time and space for Brooksy to take advantage of a weakness in the oppositions defensive line because at the moment his a marked man and would be high on every teams tip sheet.
The funny thing too with the Walker arguement is how little consideration goes to Drew Hutchinson and his role in the team.

Loyalty is useless if the quality isn't there.

Look at Nof. If he wasn't a local boy there's slim chance he'd be with us still and if he was he'd be on a lot less coin.

Same with Brooks, as a local junior we overpaid him after his first strong season. Since then his kicking, running and passing games have disintegrated and he's now a shadow of his former self. Realistically it's his defence keeping him in first grade.

Brooks would be in huge demand if he was on the market. He created how many try scoring opps against the Dragons?
