Tigers Players - Gone >> Bigger & Better Things?

The Recruitment and retention policies posts have got me thinking.

A good coaching team not only train players, create set plays, work with injuries etc. they are instrumental in implementing a series of strategies with the goal of sustained on the park success.

In light of the fact that we have been talking in the last few years of players with potential, there are only 17 that get on the field each week.

The Coaching team led by Head Coach Sheens must be very objective and astute in their analysis of each player and where and when they will fit in to said strategy…

**Are there really any players that have been "let go" or "moved on" from the Wests Tigers that have gone on to develop into real quality first graders of Stars????**

As have already been mentioned, Isaac de Gois, Bronson Harrison and Ben Te'o are the three recent departures that spring immediately to mind.

Another name you could add is Jarrod Saffy who managed to carve out a spot as a regular bench forward in a very competitive Dragons team…

Jeff Lima is the only one that got away - so to speak!

The rest of those blokes mentioned had superior players ahead of them (e.g. DeGois & Farah).

Bronson was always going to be a star back-rower but was getting stale and lacking motivation - plus we opted for Gareth ahead of him! Same can be said for T'eo - but he did renege on a handshake with the club to take on the big money and TV deal at Brisbane.

O'Donnell & Laffranchi both played for NSW and Australia after leaving - but Boof was always going home and O'Donnell has still spent half his time away from us on the sidelines!

Covell did very well at Cronulla (given his limitations) - but was never going to stay in first grade at the Tigers. Collis has all but been forgotten with the emergence of Ayshford.

Halatau will come good for the dogs - but will not be overly missed with the replacements we have. That goes for Lewis Brown as well.

Gower, Tagive, Taumata & Gallant have a chance to prove their value next year!

CB I know you were joking about those three but I wanted to mention Covell because he actually did go on to much bigger things than if he had stayed with us!

He even played a few minutes of a Test for New Zealand and captained an NRL side (albeit the Sharks…) for a bloke with his speed and skill level he ended up having a fantastic career!

As for Collis - with some weight training - sprint work and a better attitude - he still has time to show us that alleged potential (he is undeniably skillful)!

Luke O'Donnell left before the Sheens era if I recall correctly (this club was joke then).

Of those the WT let go… I think it is fair to say that not one would command a permanent spot in the 2010 top 17.

I think it may be time to re read the "Biggest Waste" thread.... Gonna be a long off season..

I have nothing against the guy, but he would have had trouble cracking the FG team at any other club.

I think this was a case of bigger fish in smaller pond.

Was Ryan Hoffman ever on the Magpies Radar? Im pretty sure he was a campbelltown collegians kid, and surprises me if wests never got a look in at him…

I think Saffy would have been a very handy bench player for us that would not have put a lot of strain on the salary cap. He ran straight and hard and was pretty handy in defense

We didnt Let him go ie Services no longer required, No room in the Salary cap. He like Princey made his choice to move on for more $$$$ and the QLD sunshine.
