Tigers Pull Out Of Takairangi Deal

can he let go of a few duds we still have?

Looks like he has the courage and will to do so. I am sure some he has already given some of our players a wake up call.

Well, pulling out can be a dangerous situation, and it's critical not to pull out too late or else you get caught up in a huge mess.

Luckily it seems Taylor was able to steady the ship and pull out just before things became official…

Wests Tigers have pulled out of Brad Takairangi's 3-year contract agreed to just last month. New coach Jason Taylor made the call.

Which source did you get this info from?

The Pom doesn't post much but when he does he is always on the money.

Hopefully it's a sign McDonnell is on his way out as well.

I would consider that an early Christmas present if it happens.

The fact any signings were agreed to without a head coach was ridiculous in the first place. Good on Taylor for making his own calls.

Agree 100%. It wouldn't have been an issue for the club to approach players and initiate talks, but engaging in contract negotiations and signing off without a coach is plain stupidity.

And this is exactly why the club didn't sign off on any contracts! It's totally fine to start negotiating with players to get the ball rolling, and then the coach can come along and decide whether or not to keep pursuing that player.

That's what's happened here and it's good Taylor didn't pursue a player lined up for the club if he didn't suit Taylor's vision.

And i'm pretty sure it was announced that McDonnell is only involved in youth recruitment these days. That was announced by the club a year or so ago i think.

Officially there was never that announcement. Your right it was in the paper that McDonnell was to be demoted but that didn't happen.
He needs to be as far away from the place as possible.

I hope Taylor is a lot smarter than Potter and and has McDonnell sitting in the dole queue and not sitting in the coaches box along side him.

Is this a fact? Don't remember seeing anything from the club announcing a deal with Takairangi or Kevin Naiqama - so maybe it is all speculation with nothing actually signed.
Anyhow, good to see that Taylor is making calculated decisions - let's hope he does have other players in mind. I'm more inclined to think that we are going to make good with the roster we have for 2015, unless we let go of, or find homes for. a few players- then maybe we could pick up some fresh talent to lift the mix.

Both these signings remind me of the Brent Kite ''signing'' 2 yrs ago. During the finals series, everyone was saying he was over the line and some were even picking him in their side for 2013\. If its supposedly official, why aren't the club announcing it?

So no Takairangi and no Naiquma.

Gold Coast Titans coach Neil Henry says he is open to “considering” a return for Titan-turned-Tiger Brad Takairangi after the Sydney club told the utility yesterday that it had backflipped on a three-year deal for next season.

The crushing news for Takairangi, who only signed the deal with the Tigers last month, came hot on the heels of an announcement that potential Titans target Ben Hannant was off to the Cowboys.

Takairangi signed his deal before new Tigers coach Jason Taylor had been appointed.

The 25-year-old’s management was yesterday informed by the Tigers the deal was off. Takairangi, who worked with Taylor at the Roosters until he left in 2012, had only made the difficult choice to leave the Gold Coast after the Titans were unable to match the Tigers’ offer due to salary cap constraints.
