TIGERS Rozelle Development

The sad thing is Balmain have nothing to gain by the sale,I guess their only hope is they can at lease some of he space off th new developer to stat up a club again, but that would come at a premium price.

You wonder how they ever got themselves into this mess in the firs place, gross mismanagement comes to mind

Someone started counting chickens before they'd hatched I think.

They got conned in the beginning (1909)….and got conned at the death

One of the troubles for Balmain Tigers was that over the past century they did not plan ahead for expansion and also not expecting to have a huge and lavish casino on their border soaking up the gambling dollars.

I have noticed many other clubs when had restricted-size premises over the generations bought up surrounding properties at a decent price when they came on the market, and usually only one at a time. Balmain bought up their surrounding properties in a hurry, simultaneously, paid premium price and got themselves into debt.

The only method I could imagine a Tigers club succeeding would be to have buses ship WT supporters back after a game to lighten their pockets and to have laugh or cry over a result.

That had been going on for some time… Though usually a bus .... Not buses

Its up for sale

http://property.cbre.com.au/properties/138-156-victoria-road-waterloo-darling-streets-rozelle-nsw-2039/

almost two acres up for sale in prime location.
sale price could be anything

Just on the news sale price around 70 to 80 million…this puts the Balmain Tigers in a very bad position as there is no moving forward ,they have a huge debt to the NRL paying interest on the debt .Unfortunatly I think the end is not to far off I doubt the 2 small clubs they have will pull them out of trouble .Looks like full ownership to the Magpies this has been a very sorry tale ,I do agree with the developer on one thing though just stated the politicians were gutless to make any decisions.

Developer is laughing all the way to the bank…he paid $1 for the land (inherited the $20m debt), will sell it for $70-80m netting a coll $50m + profit....

Why oh why did Balmain sell this club?

Possibly they were mesmerised by the fantasy of greed.

Don't start…..

It is a terrible siuation, and cleary some imbeciles were steering the ship back then.

But I will say this as a FORMER Balmain Tigers fan. I couldnt care less if Wests or anyone on that side of the merger has a 100% stake in the ownership. Im a Wests Tigers fan and as far as Im concerned, the Magpies and Balmain disappeared 17 years ago.

The fact that this really nothing to do with Wests Tigers yet people still drag up the faux outrage clearly show they have not moved on as much as they doeth protest…amazaballs...

Who?

I used to follow wests , so it's not a case of me not moving on.
But this could be the end for Balmain altogether . And I'll be sad if they no longer have any input into our club.

Yep.
Me too… It's a significant moment in our history imo

Wests Ashfield may end up owning WT 100% but that was always on the cards. Balmain like Wests Magpies will always be a part of the history of Wests Tigers. That can't and never will be changed.
