Tigers sign McKinnon - effective immediately

Always rated him, great signing.

Insane - please don't compare Mitch Brown to McKinnon, not even a contest. I understand what you're saying but Brown is merely an average first grader, McKinnon is quality.

I will give a lot of credit to Sheens for this! Personally I think this is a very very good signing.
Whats also exciting is McKinnon is not a ball playing fullback. Sheens has been desperately trying to have a ballplaying fullback for years.
In '05 Hodgo was a supporting f/back because we had good halves. When our halves pairing busted up he had to make Hodgo much more of a ballplayer and he has been trying the same thing with Moltzen.
Beau/ Fitzy etc. have been stand ins.
This is a massive turnaround for Sheens and I think a really good sign.

Only possible negative is that it might have been due to them getting bad news on TNT.

Well done Sheens!
(didn;t think I'd be saying that this soon after the Souths game!)

ron was too busy complaining about how hard done by he is

No…lay off Ron...he only deals in PM's to the secret society now with his inside info....

Wispers 2 days ago..lol....I heard Slater knocked us back and with Hunt switching to AFL McKinnon was the next available...

very happy, I've been gunning for this bloke on the forum since last year. I've also told people on other forums and just anyone I know that we should get him this year since he's behind Hohia. This is awesome news.

A couple of seasons ago, their was a poll of which nrl fullback would be best for the tigers, I'm pretty sure people on this forum wer rating him up there with slater and karmichael if not higher for the tigers number 1.

He certainly WAS quality…before his last injury.Hope he still is at 29.

_Was_ quality…serious injury...tigers sign
Reminds me of jason cayless

BRET - hindsight scoops are as worthwhile as scented toilet paper

We already signed mitch Brown, whos more a fullback than a winger yet has never seen the 1 jersey.

Brown doesn't seem that good under the high ball though and is pretty average.

Don't get me wrong, I rate McKinnon very, very highly! He is a super-quality footballer and is otherwise a fantastic acquisition for the club.

But I can't help but think of the following:
- what about Mullaney? Ok, yes the kid is young and can spend the rest of the year in the reggies, but not forever
- what about Meany? This guy is deadset on fire! He is leading the table-topping BRET side to massive victories and kicking goals from all over the park.
- what about Tuqiri and Ryan?
- what about brown?

someone has to lose out here. I don't envy sheens' position at the moment in regards to selections.

McKinnon might only be here for this year so Mullaney could still play first grade next year. Tuqiri will still be in the team but Brown and Ryan might not if we ever get to full strength.

people should stop getting excited Sheens wont put this guy in First grade he loves Fitzy plain and simple this is Matthew Head V John Morris

so,

1\. McKinnon
2\. Tuqiri
3\. Ayshford (fitzhenry/daniella/brown/whoever)
4\. Lawrence
5\. Ryan

17\. Taumata

i'd be happy with that!

How do you know….he hasnt had a run in the #1 with US, bar maybe a trial iirc

Just seems so wasteful and very scrappy

Could turn out to be a good pickup if he can regain the parramatta form…..will be an improvement on the footy show goose

if he walks straight into FG v the dogs then ill give up, meaney has been playing extremely well for a couple seasons now and IMO deserved a shot a while ago, Mckinnon was good in 07 his last couple seasons havent been good, IMO another wasted signing when we potentially have 3 fullbacks other then ryan and moltzen who can play there.

ink is right on this….what was the point of signing brown and whats the point of carving up in PL or 20s when you constantly get over looked. 3 years ago it would of been a great signing and id assume since its immediate release he has already been promised the FB role otherwise he would of just stayed at the warriors

Parramatta form was an awful long time ago.
Sheens knows that unless he can get us into the top 9 this year(storm included)his tenure at WT is totally untenable,& is effectively a dead man walking.
McKinnon is a short term opportuntistic last roll of the dice…hope it works
