Tigers tell Maguire they’re ‘walking on eggshells’

Buzz Rothfield is without doubt a tool, but even he said the Tigers have put in half a dozen poor performances this year and the axe hasn't swung over several players. If what occurred at this meeting is true, then it's obvious most of the squad need to go because the mentality just reeks of 51% is good enough - and it's not.

Board and management must back Madge. Didn't hear any suggestions from these worried players on what might be a better approach than Madge demanding consistent, low (preferably no) mistake playing performances. What a damn hide!

9 years of rubbish and the minute we get a coach who expects quality and the players are up in arms and complaining. Loser club!

The club better stand behind Madge here

EXACT same thing happened at Souths with the majority of their team.

Not saying Madge is wrong, but I have long felt this approach ONLY works if you win.

Bellamy, Ferguson and Belichick..this approach works as they win.

Every other coach, in all codes, has failed eventually with this approach when they have not won.

If players play good it doesn’t happen. Get rid of the non performers and build a winning team and that’s the plan.

Madge is definitely a coach that needs the whole squad to be his because not everyone is on board with him as a coach

It’s laughable that players can complain about being dropped for playing crap, it’s a professional sport and they’re not doing their jobs

In all sports, it either works brilliantly (great culture, long term success) OR the coach fails. If you follow the NBA, Coach Thibs has tried it and failed everywhere...but coach Pop succeeded. 95% fail.

Our problem is, for Madge to work, we really need senior...hard headed...tough blokes.

No Benjis and Lawrys...nice guys, but absolutely terrible in terms of winning culture.

Michael Crockers and Sam Burgess instead...blokes who fire up and lead.

Whether we can get those types of players before Madge is sacked or walks in the next couple of years...that is the real question.

Wests Tigers players and entitlement ayy. Classic duo. Club better 100% back Madge. You wanna play like kids you will get treated like kids. Why can’t we have players that are hungry to be the best. No desire to improve themselves it seems, shows the lack of character and intent amongst the playing group.

This is not going to end well.

We have a garbage roster full of entitled overplayed players that would not be playing first grade for any other club in the competition.

The direction is being set by a coach who by gameplan, bench rotations and selections has shown nothing to suggest he has any idea what he is doing. He is also too paranoid to bring in anyone that may be able to provide advice and help turn the team around.

We are recruiting youth, but they take time to become first graders and there is nothing to keep them here when offers are coming from elsewhere.

Off the field the club is improving. On it, I can see us winning 2-3 spoons in the next 5 years.

It’s up to the club to let Madge at least try build the team he wants. He’s clearly happy to dump the rubbish and bring his own guys in and he should be given a chance to do that

Well said. The next two or three marquee players signed will tell us whether this club is ever going to get its act together. I’d make Brandon Smith #1 priority and chase Welch too. Winners.

What a pitiful excuse for a club we support!
Players refusing to have a go.. refusing to win at critical times.. what a bunch of sooks! Drop the whole bloody lot of them Madge. Except McIntyre, he has a go every game.

All this is based on Poopers's mail from supposed sources. Let's not jump to conclusions.

Poops is a gossip columnist who had a rant about Cammy Smith not telling him his plans for next year.
I wouldn't trust him with a bucket of water if my ass was on fire.

In a relatively short career as a head coach he has turned two losing teams into premiers. Have faith.

If this is actually how things happened then it’s very disappointing to hear. I would love to know which players expressed this concern. As a member I would expect they be the first ones to be shown the door. Anyone that wonders where the “culture” has broken down at WT needs to wonder no more. The audacity is mind blowing.

And Lucy.

If the club doesn’t back the coach here and does something stupid like booting him It will be very hard for me to support the club fully. I’ll still love them but it’s the worst thing they could do, it’s just accepting mediocrity

They won’t mate. Footy department is being well run. They will be supported for sure.

Very easy to fabricate all this drama as it's on record madge likely making a few changes tomorrow and it's reported there was a players meeting today.... Add in your own herbs and spices and yiu got a hooper specisl

I hope so. It’s the players in the wrong here not the coach

Usually is hey. Coaches are too often scapegoats for entitled players

I don’t like the players at all and am not overly fond of the coach or the CEO either. Why the hell do I even support this club lol.

So we have an unsuccessful playing group complaining to a successful coach that they are walking on eggshells because they can’t play badly anymore without consequences..

How can anybody from management, commentators, fans and potential players take these complaints seriously.
