Tigers tell Maguire they’re ‘walking on eggshells’

The funny/sad thing is I recall the players told Madge a month or so ago to lighten up and not push them so hard, he listened to them, and then the players put in even *worse *performances.

Wield the axe on these entitled princesses Madge.

There is enough blame to go around. Yeah, a lot of players in this squad are either overpaid or not up to it, but Maguire hasn’t exactly lived up to expectations either. Everyone was so excited thinking how much of an upgrade he was on the old coach. Yet look where the old coach is sitting.

Look at the players the old coach has at his disposal. You telling me Madge wouldn't fare better with that squad?

The old "he's lost the dressing room" article.

We've backed the playing group through four coaches. How about we try something different this time?

Absolutely. If I’m choosing between the coach and this playing group I’m choosing the coach.

I'm backing most of the forum could coach that squad and not screw it up.

What Ivan deserves credit for is getting those players into the team. Last season he got rid of the older duds and brought all the juniors through and look how good it’s worked. One or two astute signings have helped as well.

Madge pretty much has the exact same strategy but unfortunately (because of years of ignorance from the club) we don’t have the huge junior nursery like Penrith to pick from so we have to sign these kids from elsewhere.

And that’s coming from someone who’s not even a fan of the coach. Shows how much we rate majority of the players ?

My heart bleeds for them, all that mediocrity. Won’t someone think of the children???

Our players are a bunch of millennials

I think Todd Payten is showing what can be done with an average squad. Through adversity as well. Why we are sitting behind a club in that position on the ladder is a question that needs to be asked.

Their players actually seem to care. Warriors threatened to boot the lot of them and it switched the players on. Madge did the same here and our players cry and leak crap to the media.

Gus Gould saved that club from the brink it goes way beyond anything Ivan Cleary did. Even Griffin got the pathways to FG sorted. Ivan is there to add the trimmings and ensure his star son got his wish. Cleary getting way too much credit for the hard work done for him.

I think the players attitude is pretty terrible for a professional sports team.

The main concerns I have with Madge is his inability to improve existing players (he appears to be very one dimensional and not a great man manager) and I have concerns about his ability to recruit. The fact Payten has done so much more with less is a worry.

Like I said the junior players were all there for Ivan he just picked them out and put them in the team. For whatever reason Penrith weren’t doing that before, Ivan realised how much talent was going to waste and utilised it. He learnt from the mistakes he made with us I reckon

It's a tough one because you want your players to have a voice and be honest with you as a coach, so if they tell you it's not working you have to take that on-board because you're not going to achieve what you want if the players aren't responding to you.

I just want to know why they've waited so long to say it's not working.
Obviously it's not, because we're not even going to finish 9th, it's too late now to tell the coach it's not working.

I've got a feeling this isn't going to end well, I don't think the players like Madge at all and it's starting to show now that we're out of the running, I can see some ugly scores run up on us in the coming weeks.

Madge definitely needs ‘his team’ but at the same time he’s a coach that demands effort and if players arent gonna do it then they’re not gonna work together and improve. I wonder how many he will manage to squeeze out before the 2021 season, I’m guessing not many to be honest

What about John Morris, loses Xerri, Fifita, Townsend, Morris, Johnson has been in and out with injury, Moylan and Dugan too.
If we lost those types of players we wouldn't win a game

Madge has won a premiership. He made Souths the regular contenders they are now.

He knows what it takes to make a club successful.

Ivan is reaping the rewards of the junior pathways system that Penrith implemented under Gus and Griffin.

The Warriors are also unlike any other team. They are living away from home permanently (yeah, I know Melbourne is too now, but that wasn't the case to begin with.) They are in another country and playing for each other is all they have.

I think the club needs to extend Madge as soon as they can even if it’s one year. Show everyone they’re backing him and that they won’t put up with the crap from the players.

But I suppose the question is, why can other coaches get the best effort out of their players when ours can’t? I agree our roster isn’t good and the culture stinks but it is a bit of a worry. There’s clearly some issues between him and the playing group. Hopefully this is all coming to a head one way or the other.

We've had such a different year with just about no leaks to the press.
And now this.
What's the real agenda?

Apparently Benji gets told he's not in next years plans and then all these articles about the club being a basket case start rolling out.
