Tigers tell Reynolds he's free to find a new club

Highly unlikely Maloney would leave Penrith a year early to come and play at WT. If Maloney is still in the NRL next year, it will be at the Panthers.

I think the club has done the best they can with Josh. Even if they have to pay 400k per year of his contract they can still pick up someone on 350 to 400k who has some output. If Reynolds was a young guy on the way up it would be madness to move him on, but at 30 years of age ( not that i think that is old) and the last 3 years of his career being riddled with injury, well lets just say not to many people improve physically when they move into their 30's in rugby league.

Saw part of Maloney's interview on Fox show with the 4 ladies , he is quite happy to go to the ESL , wants to travel at a young age with kids

Yeah i didn't see the show, but even after Origin he hinted he may be in England next year.

Was told by a guy who has connections with the Reynolds family that a NRL club has shown interest in JR as a back up player, but they are only willing to pay a small piece of his contract. Apparently JR is willing to go but is more than happy to sit out his contract at the Tigers if a deal can’t be struck. Also ESL would have to be a great deal to entice him. The NRL club in question is located near Bondi, they see him as good insurance. Not sure if this is reliable info, just passing on what I was told

The same club that just bought Kyle Flanagan? Are they stocking up on more halves sine their 2 superstars are showing signs of wear and tear?

For the record, Madge hasn't officially said anything about benji or Reynolds all random tabloid speculation at this point. They've been saying Reynolds head was on the chopping block for months, yet that wasn't the case then. It may be now, may not be too ...

The story about Reynolds was on nrl.com so not really "tabloid" TBF.

Its Fox/News ltd so i consider it to be tabloid trash

No, it's not. The story was on nrl.com, which is the official website of the NRL. The reporter is Michael Chammas, who is nrl.com's chief reporter and used to work for the Herald. Nothing to do with Fox or News.

If we're footing more than half of Reynolds contract I'd be telling whomever to get shafted.

I agree and if we have to pay more than half his salary I say keep him as a back up if needed or if we have another player in mind ready to go. To be fair to Josh it is only his injuries that has not worked out for us as when he does play he looks great and won most of the games. He would be a perfect 14 next year if Farah retires and he stay injury free. Liddle 9 and Josh 14.

Massive kudos to Madge for treating Reynolds with a bit of respect and giving him the chance to move on.

The bloke was signed as a first choice five-eighth and due to a double whammy of injuries and Benji's form, it just hasn't worked out for him.

Most other players would have had a sook, but Reynolds has been a good club man under tricky circumstances.

Despite a lot of the comments above, he has been good for us when fit and is still NRL standard. I hope he stays in the NRL.

Reynolds isn’t going anywhere. Great pension here for the next couple of years. He will plod away in CC with his mates Matulino and Packer.

I do truly look forward to the day these three are gone. Reynolds might be a great clubman but 9 games in two seasons for a guy on his wage is pure madness. The sooner he is gone the better for WT and it’s poor fans.

Many apologies i thought Fox/News mentioned it first

@Papacito Yeah I can't fault Reynolds approach and attitude. The injuries he's had I'm sure frustrate him as much as the rest of us.

I just hope there's some plan. Say he does go, what then? Brooks and Marshall with no cover? We can only hope Madge has the move after that planned. Relying on Benji in 2020 as your only 5/8 basically is a recipe for disaster.

Reynolds was quest host on Triple M's rush hour last night, and someone called him to ask him "If another Sydney club offered you a starting spot in the halves next weekend for the same money, would you take it"?
He went silent for quite a while, but eventually said no as he's backing himself to make first grade with the Tigers again.

Not sure if this was before or after his supposed conversation with Madge, and I know what someone says when given a hypothetical verse a real life situation could be completely different, but I thought it was interesting given this article.

Sounds like smoke and mirrors to me.

Who was Michael Chammas' source? It can only be the club or Reynolds. The story sounds like Reynolds is playing well in CC but Benji is the preferred option for first grade.

From what we hear from the club, Reynolds is apparently injured and has not managed to get through 2 CC games in a row to show that he is the better choice.

We will only know what is really going on when the deals are signed and there is an official announcement.

It's a crap situation. Reynolds by all accounts is a decent bloke and takes his footy seriously. I still think he has something to offer when he's fit as he's played well in the games he's actually turned out for us.

However, we are just not getting value for money and if another club was going to pick up at least half the tab for him that will give us a good chunk of money to at least place elsewhere. In saying that if another club is going to insult us and offer base contract we are better off having him here at least there's a quality back up in reggies.

I’d still prefer a fit Reynolds over a fit Marshall any day of the week but apparently the coach sees otherwise …

It's not just the coach though is it? I really don't know many people who now hold that opinion!

You need to get out more

Reynold made up for what he lacked in talent with enthusiasm, he never has had a strong passing game and is more of a runner of the ball which doesn't fit well with the style of player Brooks is. He is 100% all heart and I admire his commitment but I agree with the decision of telling him he will not be our first choice 5/8th!

Honestly I would rather Reynolds on the field together with Benji right now. Brooks has been a thorn in the flesh of this team for too long now, not a game manager by any stretch of the imagination and never seems to fit well with anyone! He couldn’t even work well together with Moses, who he played all his junior football with! We’ve been trying to build a team around him forever with the same old mediocre results.

He constantly gets a free pass into the side each week, is not held accountable for anything - it’s always someone else’s fault, Farah being too greedy or Benji wanting the limelight. If this bloke would just do his bloody job and take control of the team, make the calls, learn to kick like a real half and close out matches when he’s supposed to then the others wouldn’t feel the need to have to take over.

Sorry for the rant and I know I’ll get flamed for this, but I’m just not a fan. I feel we’ve just pandered to this guy for way too long waiting for him to become the superstar game manager half, at the expense of everyone else around him, and always expecting better results where there just aren’t any ever forthcoming.

the superstar game manager half,

That is because he is not a game manager type player, he is a ball runner with ok passing and kicking skills. That is why a combination of Brooks and Reynolds will not work because they are both run first type players.

Brooks opens up his passing game with his running game, while Reynolds lacks a passing game so relies on his running game!
