Name ONE progressive sport in the world that plays out of a 'stadium' like Leichhardt.
Well, that wasn't my point - just that big out of town bowls are already an anachronism, with modern stadium design moving back towards smaller, urban grounds.
But, since you asked, the AFL is thinking about it: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/suburban-grounds-in-vogue-20130325-2gpyd.html.
And baseball recognises the value of heritage grounds even when they are old and run down: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/21/wrigley-field-renovation-_n_2521492.html.
In short, if you're lucky enough to have a heritage ground most sensible sports recognise the value of retaining it. Once it's gone you'll never get it back.
More to the actual point I was making, if you look at where new stadia are getting built nowadays you'll see that teams are already abandoning the out of town model in favour of smaller venues in more appealing locales. A good example is here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PNC_Park - but there are countless others. Obviously the situation in the NRL is different as most clubs don't own their grounds, but shifting to a soulless out of town venue now is clearly a retrograde step.
I dont see the revelance of your post. ALF going back to Visy Park would be on the basis of a $150mil upgrade according to your link. Wrigley Field a $300mill upgrade. They not contemplating going back to a ground anything like LO.
And trying to say Homebush is out of town while LO is a more appealing local. I just dont see your reasonong.
@galahs said:A good move would be to concentrate the crowds into certain sections of the Stadium.
For example, don't have people sitting behind the posts unless the side seats have sold out.
Also with the extra capacity, it would be great to see Wests Tigers offer $110 season tickets for General Admin

I like that suggestion….Fill up the sides before opening up the ends!
@azsportza said:End of the day, this is the start of the Tigers moving to ANZ Stadium. Wouldn't be surprised if in 2015 we see 6 and then 2016 8 games with 4 others split between Campbelltown and Leichhardt.
@2041 said:Leichhardt is 10 minutes out of the CBD, while Homebush is in the mid suburbs. So yeah, that.
.
@Knuckles said:If we go to ANZ full time, we divorce ourselves from the MacArthur Region. That's where most of our future players will come from. Is that what we want ?
@azsportza said:I don't get why people are so happy about us playing at ANZ Stadium. The ONLY benefit is the club will get more cash.
Atmosphere is horrible, viewing is terrible. I feel like I'm alone in feeling it will be worse playing at ANZ.
@azsportza said:Well a full time move to ANZ would suit the club, Concord Oval is just 6km up Parramatta Road.
I would really hate playing more than 4 games there, ANZ will be a great ground in 2030 once the rectangular ground is done.
ANZ should treat their ground like Allianz, don't open the ends of the ground until the sides are full. Allianz don't open the north and south ends of the ground if the crowd is going to be small.
