Tigers winger to debut for nsw

i'd love to see this headline on wednesday… but dont think i will.

patty should be given a crack, he adds so much value... not just with his ability to take high balls and finish in the corner, but his kicking game would add another element to nsw's attack.

thoughts?

this might be selfish, but I would rather have him at wests-tigers to provide team stability.

i do think he is a very important cog in the wests-tigers machine to make the finals.
take him away, and the team becomes un stable.

Please keep the daggers away, i think Patty is a great Clubman but SOO arena is another beast..
He could be as lost as Merrit was when he was given a chance.
The pace of SOO is something and we all know this.

He is probably the best winger under the high ball, close to the best goal kicker in the game, is the best restart kicker in the game either from drop outs or place kicks, excellent positional winger, big and strong and a good finisher. I think Nsw would be mad not to have a close look at him, but being selfish I hope they go for Mansor

Origin is a different game, speed is the game. Happy that Patty stays, good for him, good for the West Tigers and good for NSW.

I think he would hold his own but I think NSW will go for someone like Mansour who has a bit of a power game and will make 20 hitups.

I think he'd be found out in D pretty quickly in Origin

Can't wait for the match race

But I'd agree defensively he couldn't play like he does for the Tigers

Qld (and Thurston it particular ) would create carnage out wide

Yep. That is his only negative is the lack of speed, especially off the mark. He is hard to stop when motoring along though. Rarely drops a ball. He is changing the restarts making them competitive rather than just assume the opposition are automatically going to get it. Tackles well, reads the play. Then you have his goal kicking. Mmmmm I've almost convinced myself he should be picked, almost.

Absolutely agree, mtd and thanks for the misleading thread title - I thought he had already been chosen! I reckon his kick offs alone would cause Qld plenty of havoc, but like some others on here, I would rather he be playing for WT this weekend. We wouldn't be as high up on the ladder if it weren't for Richards - we need him more than NSW.

Yep. He offers a lot but I think you need lightning speed in origin.

Tell that to Tupou, Beau Scott, Hodges, Tate, Sparkles McGaw, Gene Miles, Meninga, Girdler, Wishart, Graham Mackay etc.

No for Origin you need SIZE. You need to not be dominated in the tackle - that's what has killed previous short-timers like Turner, Matt Geyer, Merritt.

Potter sounded like he was not sold on him playing Origin during the press.

I don't want him to get selected either, would rather have him playing for us tbh

Richards: 'I'm no chance for Origin'

Experienced Wests Tigers winger Pat Richards has let his actions do the talking in an effort to secure a possible New South Wales Origin berth.

While the 32-year-old believes he is next to no chance of replacing injured Dragons winger Brett Morris, his impressive array of kicks is making those that matter take notice following his difference-making 30-metre field goal from the sideline, brilliant kick-offs and five goals against the Knights on Sunday afternoon.

While the former Man of Steel (England's answer to the Dally M medal) was renowned for his incredible kicking finesse during his time with Wigan, he didn't seem all that impressed with his miraculous one-pointer against Newcastle.

"I was obviously aware of the time and the score and all that sort of thing. At the end of the day, if you miss it isn't the worse thing in the world – it's just that extra point. It was an ugly last play option for us," Richards told reporters after the game.

"I just sort of got myself into position to have a crack and I think the wind helped it sail over.

"I didn't hit it that great. I hit it to the right and the wind ended up sailing it over so off the boot it wasn't good."

A humble Richards is certainly not one to have tickets on himself and it becomes more than apparent when he is asked whether his kicking flair will have the same effect it does in the NRL in the Origin arena.

"Who knows?" Richards said. "I don't think I'll be selected. No chance at all… I'll just worry about what I'm doing here because I'm enjoying my footy at the moment. I'm not really holding out much hope.

"All you see is a few things in the press, whether you're in the frame or not. You can't really worry about it. If you're in the frame Laurie Daley's going to ring you and tell you and I don't think he will so it doesn't bother me."

While he is clearly concentrating on doing a job for the Tigers, Richards is still looking at ways to improve his kicking game, an unlikely mentality from a winger when all is said and done.

"Over the years I've been working on it. Now I just want to keep on challenging and trying new things. I don't really want the opposition to know what's coming so I just keep practising in different ways."

Whether he secures an Origin debut or not remains to be seen but Richards' return from England to the club he won a premiership with in 2005 is certainly paying dividends.

I hope they select Dylan Walker for game 2 and Josh Mansour for game 3\. That would be really helpful.
