Tim Sheens on Sky Sports Big Sports Breakfast

The interview has finished. This is what was said by Sheens.

*the trial with North Queensland at Mackay will have the new players and second stringers playing.
*steve folkes has settled well with the tigers. He has told some interesting stories about when he was with the WI cricket team.
*they asked Tim about if Lote was coming to the tigers. He said that they are still negotiating with him and he hopes to have news for the fans within a week. Tim says Lote is still interested in coming to the tigers.
*There is a few guys in rehab, the most serious is tuaki. He says that he is having another operation on monday.
*before Tame tupeo signed with the tigers, Tim told him he was going to play prop. He told him and go and think about it. He said that tame is massive.
*they asked him which guys have impressed him at training. He said Lui and Molzen. He said that we have now depth on the halves with arana there as well along with benji.

The interview was then wrapped up.

Great Rundown Joe - thanks for that! Some very interesting points there. I'm actually a tad surprised lote is still in the mix after Folksey's comment the other day on 2UE.

I agree about the halves combo Fergie. I only think that's fair too. Arana shouldn't get first crack considering Lui has some awesome skillz, plus has put in the work through our juniors and has stayed out of trouble. He hasn't displayed his skillz yet in 1st grade, but anyone who followed the NYC, knows he is a gun.

Arana needs to sit on the sideline a bit and see if he can behave first of all. The number 14 jumper would be perfect for him.

Behaviour or loyalty should play no part in who starts the season in 7.

If Arana is the best bet than Lui can ply his halfback skills in NYC and still train with the NRL squad..

I am not sold on the idea of a half as a bench player by any means> We complain about poor bench options and this would jsut create another one

The thing is Arana isnt just a halfback. He is pretty versatile and could be used as a backline utility. Plenty of speed to burn late in a match…

I can't agree with that one. Imagine the effect on team solidarity if a bloke who has been forced out of 4 other clubs waltz's in and takes a position that a Tigers junior, and who has connections with the 1st grade players, has been working towards. Especially when it's Lui and he has a bunch of potential.

It wouldn't be good for the team. Arana has to earn his place first through playing games for the tigers, whether it be from the bench or state cup.

Arana is a solid running half, I think he could fill in a variety of the back line positions.

I get the feeling that Arana will be used as Farah's backup - most likely off the bench. Especially with his explosive running and kicking game. Sheens would be foolish to split up the Marshall - Moltzen halves combination.

Hopefully Sheens is more confident of snaring Lote than a lot of doubters on here are. Back to Lui and Tauamata though, it sounds like Lui has had the better pre-season, or rather impressed the players more. Then again there's every chance the club is trying to keep the focus off Taumata and just let him concentrate on training at halfback. It sounds like both Lui and Taumata will be given an opportunity to impress in the Mackay trial along with the other new recruits and young players stepping up.

No surprise Tupou has been ear-marked for the front row. He's noticeably bigger than Tuiaki and probably the biggest unit in the club. He looked to be benching more than the other players in the Summertime program. Bad news about Tuiaki having to have another op. Hopefully his ankle mends as well as it possibly can but it sounds like we're not going to see him on the field much this year.

i think ull find Fitzhenry will be the back up for Farah. Arana will either be 14 or Halfback

Any idea if anyone is able to put the interview for download, for those that missed it? Would love to hear it. Also Moltzen for fullback and let the young guys fight for the 7\. If we have Moltz at 1 that means that we have 4 genuine playmakers in the team. 1,6,7,9 whereas if we had Moltz at 7, he would probably be better suited but less playmakers i nthe team IMO

I doubt that will occur.

why, that is what Fitzhenry was bought back for… he played Hooker in the UK very very well and bought back incase Farah was playing for NSW... we dont have any other specialty hooker

we dont have any better fullbacks then moltzen for the time being though so i can only see it being

1\. moltz
6\. benji
7\. lui

14\. arana

makes sense to me…as much as i wanna see moltz at half thats what i think will happen

He hasnt ''waltzed in''
Lote will waltz in.
Taumata will have worked all off season, played in the trials…anything he or other new players get will be earnt.
Every player in the top squad should start the season on level footing, training and trials should determine who gets the nod for round one.
As long as he's done whats asked of him since he signed on the dotted line, if he deserves to start thats fine imo.
What hes done in the past is nothing to do with us...a fresh start is just that. A fresh start.

Didnt think we'd be seeing Tame on the wing, hey Simon
