Who do people think Sheens will be reporting to in his new role at the club?

Pascoe?

Board

See that is the thing you can't have 4 people reporting to the board, it doesn't work well.

Yeah you probably right reports to ceo who reports to board both I guess.

The way it seems to me to currently run is you have Justin Pascoe as CEO with a focus on the admin side of the organistion, then just under him you have Adam Hartigan as General Manager of Football who is responsible for the football side of things, from my dealings with the club Madge seems to be under Hartigan. **So where Sheens fits in this structure becomes important**, if he is sitting under Hartigan and responsible for the pathways etc then that probably works well and he then has Kimmorley and the other new guy working below him. With this many ego and highly motivated people under one roof it is important to get these things right and clear to everyone.

If we have this right we just need to then improve the structure on the admin and commercial side of the business.

That's already been established... Floater..

Floater suggests a degree of autonomy and is a wonderfully flexible role description.

I would hope there is a more defined job description.

I doubt it. It’s clear they didn’t have any job specs so it would follow there’s no description of tasks and duties to be performed?
I imagine as a floater Tim will write his JD as he adds new layers to it?

That is exactly what we need to avoid.

Precisely! Ambiguity leaves room for a good idea to fall apart and have an opposite effect.
Maybe it’s just Pascoe flying by the seat of his pants? May be that’s all it is?

I don't think so, I think they said this has been in negotiations for 6 weeks. Just a clear job description with clear organisational structures and this has a great chance of being successful.

I meant flying by the seat of his pants announcing the new position and appointment. If there was no advertisement for the position, then it’s possible the recruitment of Sheens came before the job specs, which means that he is left to write his own job description? I think it has all happened too quick for Pascoe with cart before the horse decision making from the board and it shows by his announcement of Sheens’ recruitment.

Not sure they need to advertise the position? But how do you know they didn't?

Maybe they recognised a need, they heard Sheens was coming home and they approached him?

TBH, if he has no direct reporting link to the NRL team, then I can't see a problem?

It would be a pretty powerful meet and greet to a player, having Madge, Hartigan & Sheens front up for a chat?

Pretty sure they would have a head of football performance model/ description position to follow similar to what Phil Gould is now doing with the Warriors. Apparently the Bulldogs are also looking for a similar candidate at their club.

What is it about 2021 professional rugby league, that the return of a soon-to-be 71yo former NRL coach is greeted with such entusiasm?

What does he have to offer a more contemporary (with players and many fans) coaching team other than extended experience in the game?

So, the answer to building a future powerhouse club of the NRL is to seek the input of a relic of the past?

Huh?? I wonder what he is being paid??

If the topic was about signing Ben Gardiner (he's the Magpies' NSW Cup coach) to a senior role of "football performance", I'd be much more enthused.

But, good on Sheensy for adding to his superannuation portfolio. Let's hope that his impact is as significant in the immediate future of the Wests Tigers.

I'm guessing you are a young person @Tiger-Tragic.
If you think a 71yo isn't capable of doing a fair days work, particularly someone of Tim Sheens character, You've got a lot to learn.
I'm 74yo and still able to get through every day without any hassles.

Meh,

So Welcome back Tim, honestly glad to have you onboard (feel free to return the $1mil if you wish.. ok but your shouting at the bar).

Now this is NORMAL. Very Normal. What is happening is what the Tigers have wanted for ages. A structure that doesn't succeed or fall on the head coach. Brisbane and other clubs have people around who look into the little things, are the guys tackling right, are they too worn. Madge should not be the focal point, it allows for continuity if Madge leaves.

I believe we tried getting Laurie Daily in. Honestly he would have been great. Now Sheens is in, it's good. I believe Madge may have played under him. So we should see a good guide/sage working at the club.

Honestly it's good to have Sheens around. Even if it is just 1 play a week, Sheens pull out that notebook, have everyone huddle like an arrow and push Daine Laurie over the try line.

The only sad part is. I don't think Sheens will recognise anyone. Brooks just started under him, Farah is helping coach, ah I think that is it.

I don’t know if they advertised the position, that’s my point! But perhaps you’re right, they may have conceived this great idea that a head of football was required, asked the question, what does he do? Or what do we want that person to do? Why do we need that position.? Then filed all that info away, relied on the power of positive thought and suddenly Tim Sheens, the most qualified applicant for the position comes knocking. It’s more likely, by Pascoe’s announcement that Tim told them they need him. He may have been prompted by Madge? Who knows?

I love it. The only coach and presence around our club that bought in the rite players and had the "Culture that keeps getting talked about". He never talked about it just made it happen with a somewhat ragtag team. I loved all of his Signings mixed in with our nobody's like Ben Galea - tough as you can get.

I don’t know if they advertised the position, that’s my point! But perhaps you’re right, they may have conceived this great idea that a head of football was required, asked the question, what does he do? Or what do we want that person to do? Why do we need that position.? Then filed all that info away, relied on the power of positive thought and suddenly Tim Sheens, the most qualified applicant for the position comes knocking. It’s more likely, by Pascoe’s announcement that Tim told them they need him. He may have been prompted by Madge? Who knows?

We already have a head of football.

Yes we do. Sorry I meant head of football performance and floating sound board.

I love it. The only coach and presence around our club that bought in the rite players and had the "Culture that keeps getting talked about". He never talked about it just made it happen with a somewhat ragtag team. I loved all of his Signings mixed in with our nobody's like Ben Galea - tough as you can get.

Have you seen the movie “the replacements” about a patched together of unwanted NFL players looking for a second chance? Against all odds make it to super bowl glory. You can see the characters in the 2005 Tigers.

I can remember Ben Galea with ball in hand picking someone up and illegally dumping the defensive player on his head. Not illegal he had ball in hand. SHEENS COACHED SIDE. Be happy he is back.

Good movie, based on the 1987 footballers strike, the replacement players didn't make the Super Bowl but had to play against the Cowboys after their players returned from the strike.

I have just put in foxtel IQ4 yesterday. I wish I stayed with my IQ2 coz its so confusing. Did change for reasons that will take to long to explain. I do remember that movie so I might be able to watch it again now on iq4. We'll see. GO TIGERS! I BELIEVE EVEN WHEN WE CAN'T MAKE FINSLS. A WIN GETS ME THROUGH THE WEEK.

Yes that’s the one. Their kicker needed to have a smoke while he kicked unbelievable distances. Just like Pat Richards’ kick offs.

And Assistant Coach, Wayne Collins, played under Sheens too.

lol, he had illegal bookies after him trying to get him to purposely miss kicks to pay off debts.
